silently. I tried to get her to speak. I glanced at the
documents. She seemed close to a recently deceased girl named Denee. I prodded her but she wouldn’t break. “That’s not fair. The silent treatment, really?”
When she finally spoke up a new anger rose in her voice. She mentioned my empty finger. I couldn’t help but to leave. I can’t stand her. She hit me in the worst spot possible. She hit my memory of Katey.
Katey was my fiancé; we were going to get married. It had been exactly 2 years to this day since we got engaged. Her birthday. She died. Two days before our wedding. She was driving home and I just had to call her. I ruined her in that moment. She couldn’t focus. She drove into a truck. She died instantly said the paramedics. My life shattered that day. It was my only weak spot and somehow Samantha hit it. Dead on. I had to get out of there. I left as soon as I could and went to my desk. Leaning over it. I sighed as Jackie came in
again.
“Are you ok?”
“Yeah I’ll be fine.”
“You should see this. She’s is creepy. She is staring at me.”
“You know she can’t see you. Right?”
“Just come.” I headed over and walked into to the room. She really was staring. Her eyes brightened for a second and then she licked her lips. I had to go back in there, before I lost my job. I creeped in slowly not letting her see my face for a moment or two. After a little bit of stubborn left behind finally evaporated, she started talking to me and answering my questions. I started with questions I already knew the answers too; testing her.

“What?” I was right there, in front of the commander questioning his authority. “You want to what?!”
“I want to release her as your responsibility. She will be informing you and helping you
on this case. Besides, since the murder case that she was convicted of was put on trial when she was a juvenile; she will be getting out of prison soon. She will be on an anklet and it will only be for the course of this investigation. Her parole officer actually gave me the idea. And she seems to have taken a liking to you specifically.”
“She can help from behind bars just fine.” At this moment he had lost his mind amongst his old age and I had to help him find it through reasoning.
“No buts. Dismissed.”
“But sir please-“
“I said Dismissed.” What a sense of humor the universe has.
