I was on a horse climbing to the top of a mountain. My crew and I were going up against some tough terrain. Then our tour guide said, “Beware of grave robbers, they are not kind to American tourists.”
“Also if you take any gold you will be arrested and locked up,.”, he said.
We continued up the mountain until the horses had to stop. We then went swimming in a makeshift swimming hole made of rock. The water was vigorously cold.
“The rest of our journey will be on foot from this point,.” t, The tour guide said.
We continued our journey and we went over suspension bridges that had panel gaps in them. My sister even almost fell in one. As we neared the top, our tour guide asked us why we came on the trip. Many gave generic answers. As this happened I wondered why was I on this trip? At the time I did not know. But, now think I do. I was on that trip to experience new cultures and different types of people. That is an experience I will never forget.
Hawaii 2019My sister, my mom and I were flying over the blue Pacific and a huge chain of islands was right in our path. We were going to Hawaii. The reason we went there was to attend his funeral. He had died in his sleep. We were staying at your average hotel - nothing special. My mom did forget her phone and her driver's license. We ate at McDonald’s and other places that were cheap. We went to the beach and had as much fun as we could. Soon the day arrived, I was on my way to the funeral. Then, we arrived. I am not going to say much about this sad day but, I will say this, for the wealthy Republican my aunt is and the Democrat my uncle was. I admire the love between them, despite their differences, they supported each other for 30 years. That day was very sad but, all good things must come to an end.
For all the places I’ve been, the adventures I’ve enjoyed, nothing is more important than the lessons I have learned, and the friends I have made. The most important lesson of all. “Turn your anger into ambition.” This means going through life with a chip on your shoulder. A chip of kindness and compassion. Not anger and hate.
