What I didn’t remember is that it was a long walk to the throne room. We finally arrive and I could have sworn we all sweat. King Aiden saw us and notice something was wrong.
“What seems to be the problem?” He asks. “You highness, a student of the first year has been captured.” Sir Kayden explains bowing.
The king stopped what he was doing and went towards us. “Who was it?” He asks. I spoke up, “My friend, Christian. I know he can survive against Barack-” “Wait, who’s Barack?” Ava asks hearing the conversation.
“He was supposed to be our punishment man but he went way too far.” Sir Lucas explains as Sir Nicholas whispers to me to take off my shirt.
“These wounds will kill a man senselessly.” Galion explains as the king, his wife, Prince Julian, Zoe, and Sir Havarti saw the scars on my back.
“How can you endure that much pain?” Zoe asks. “It’s hard but I got used to it.” I explain putting my shirt back on.
“How many times were you whipped?” Prince Julian asks. “Well for Christian, one hundred times for stealing food and me same, for pulling a prank on Garret.” I explain smiling to myself.
We all kept on talking and talking about how we could get Christian back. “We should get most off the Knights and the fourth year because they are more experienced.
Who knows if this Barack has an army of his own?” Aiden explains and I told them I must come. They forbid it, they said it was a dangerous journey and plus I need to go to the Medicine center to heal.
So I, Adam, and Rohan head back to our rooms where both the first years and seconds are there together.
“Well look whose back!” Derek Butler exclaims as he pats my back hard. I scream so loud that I nearly fainted. Luckily Derek caught me and asks what wrong.
Rohan told them all. They all looked horrified except for Garret, Paul, and Vincent.
Vincent spoke up saying, “He deserved it!” Garret and Paul agrees as Barron Kingston, a Knight Templar-in-training, bandages my wounds and asks the rest of my friends if they needed medical care. No.
“Where’s that orphan boy…Christian?” Roy asks as I nearly sob. “He was captured. By the man who was suppose to punish Rohan.” I explain as they third years came by and heard what I said.
“We must find your friend and I don’t care what anyone says.” Mark Hasten explains. “But the king told us that we are not allowed.
Fourth year is but not us.” Rohan explains. “Yes, but Terence is the only one who know Barack better than us.” Adam explains as everyone agrees.
“What’s his weakness?” Prospero asks me. I haven’t thought about Barack’s weakness. At first I wanted to tell them Barack has no weakness. Then is struck me like lighting.
All of the Knights of Chivalry, Rangers, Knights Templar, and Crusaders gather around to bring back Christian. They all wait for the fourth years and their king to arrive.
A Knights Templar asks if anyone knows who this Barack is exactly. No one thought of it. “Terence Evergreen knows who he is.” Sir Lucas explains as they ride out to get Terence who is the only one who can help them.
“So what’s his weakness?” Prospero ask again and I said, “Lord Roux, Garret’s father and my master.” I turn to Garret who is whistling out of tune.
“I need to speak to your father.” I said with confident. “No, besides he won’t listen to you.” Garret said turning his back on me.
“If you let me speak to your father… I’ll quit the school and go back to being your slave.” I explain guess that Garret is grinning evilly and the others are looking at me horrified. I finish by saying, “That is a promise; I bind my words on the Code of Chivalry.”
A little history
The wait for Lord Roux was excruciating. When he arrived, I bowed the way servants do.
“Evergreen, why do you summon me?” He asks. Biting my lower lips I said, “Please, milord, we need you to talk to Barack. He’s got my friend.”
We waited for Lord Roux’s response. He said nothing then turns around to leave.
“Now you wait just a moment sir!” Prince Julian shouts out and Lord Roux stopped in his place. “Yes?” He asks not turning around.
“Do what Terence has asks.” Prince Julian commands. “Why should I do what he says? I have more authority than him!” Lord Roux spats out.
“Please, for us?” We turn around to see who said that. “Cassandra what are you doing here?” Roux asks visibly shuddering.
“I work here, what about you?” Cassandra asks. “My son called.” Roux explains. ‘So, he’s afraid of a girl?’ I thought.
“What do you want?” Roux asks now shaking. “I want you to do what Terence begs of.” Cassandra explains half glaring.
“No,” Roux finally states trying to show some dignity. “Why would I do what a servant boy asks?”
“He is no longer a slave but a student.” Cassandra explains head held high.
“Preposterous! I…” Roux begins but I can hear Cassandra give a low growl. “Fine I’ll do it! Just please don’t growl at me cousin.” Roux says.
‘Cousin? Lady Cassandra and Lord Roux are cousins!?’ I thought taken aback. Seeing how my face looks, Cass smiles and nods, “Yes,” She says.
“We are cousins; even though I am younger than he is he is very frightened of me. He knows what I can do.” As I look at my old master, Roux, I notice that he is telling them about Barack.
‘I just hope Christian is okay. May the Lord be his shield and protect him.’ I pray as I join the others.
Thrown onto the cold, hard floor, Barack is having fun tormenting his “prize”.
“Isn’t his fun?” He asks taunting Christian. “It will be when it’s my turn to whip you.” Christian taunts back.
Shirtless, Christian tries to endure the pain Barack lashes on him. Christian thought he had received at least a hundred lashes.
“I wish I could have gotten Terence, but you work just fine.” Barack laughs as he is about to lash another one but is stopped by a knife.
“What the?” Barack asks taken aback. “What are you doing to this man?” the man asks in a seriously, dangerous tone. “Who are you?” Barack shouts out. “You should know very well who I am.” The man says.
“No, impossible! You‘re, you’re an Assassin!” Barack shouts out now frightened. “Indeed sir, now answer my question, what were you doing?” The man asks now glaring hard.
“Well, um, you see… Ah.” Barack stammers as he tries to find a way to escape. “There is no escape.” The Assassin says as the rest comes inside, surrounding Barack and Christian.
“He’s probably taken them to his old house, it’s very uncomfortable, and he calls it his torture chamber.” Roux explains to the others and we all nod our heads.
“Alright, we will search out.” Sir Kayden shouts out and Abigail comes.
“Wait, There might be assassins.” Abigail suggests. “Ah yes, there might be.” Sir Lucus says now concerned.
“I know who the leader of the assassins is; I’m his Achilles’ heel.” Abigail explains and we all look at her in confusion.
“Who is it then?” Prince Julian asks. “Lucius, that’s his name, the leader of the Assassins and my father.” Abigail explains.
“Whoa, wait, your father is the leader of the Assassins?” Sir Thomas asks. Abigail nods yes meekly. “I ran away from home thinking he will assassinate me.” Abigail explains lowering her head.
“Now wait a sec,” Garret stops them then turns around to face me smiling. “A deal’s a deal Terence.”
“Is there anything you need? Master?” I ask in a respective tone. “Wait what deal?” Sir Kayden asks.
“I promised Garret that if he can get his father to come here, I’ll retire and go back to being his slave again.” I explain as everyone except Garret look at me in horror shock.
“You don’t mean that right?” Zoe asks but I nod my head.
“I bounded my words on the Code of Chivalry.” I explain walking up to Garret and bow the way servants always do.
Saying my vows to serve Garret, I notice him smiling evilly. I kiss his hand then he gives me the first order. Everyone looks at me with pity and Roux, there is no emotion.
“Is this really necessary?” Sir Nicholas asks.
“He has been my slave since before you found us.” Garret states as he gives me my next order and my next order and so on.
