were rushed out the door forgetting to give him his medication. At around eleven o’clock the principle called and Austin was in the office. He received a two day in school suspension. My six year old son suspended, what the heck did he do. He was just so defiant and misbehaved the teacher didn’t want him back in the room so he had to miss recess for two days and finish this day in the office. We had talks with Austin that night, we explained what he did wrong. He said it wasn’t his fault, he hadn’t had his medication. I told him the medication doesn’t make him be good it helps him concentrate on his work. The next day I called him into our kitchen to take his pill. I put it on the counter as he poured his drink. We left to go to the corner for the bus and I continued on to work. Again around eleven o’clock I got a call that Austin was misbehaving and the teacher would not allow him back in the room. I said but he took his meds this morning. (DUH the meds don’t make him behave) The teacher was having problems with him from the start of class and finally put him in the corner. While in the corner he started turning the lights off and on. Then he continued to make noises while she was reading to the rest of the class. Austin told the principal he hadn’t taken his pill. My husband went to get him and at the same time picked his little brother up from half day young fives. Austin cried all the way home saying he didn’t take his pill, but I assured Dave that I gave it to him. Aiden (little brother) making it worse teased him that he was going to get spanked. Dave called me upon returning home just to let me know that there was a little gray pill on the counter right next to the drink Austin poured this morning. Austin was so distracted pouring his drink he didn’t remember why he was pouring the drink. Thank the lord it was Friday we could all use a break. I now watch him take the pill; I even check his mouth to make sure it went down his throat. But on the days we happen to forget it, the teacher notices in the first five minutes and sends him to the office for one of us to bring him a pill. Austin will be seven in less the two weeks and he amazes me. He is so smart and strong. At one time we thought he wouldn’t be able to wrestle or play sports, but now just try to keep him from it. He gets disappointed in himself if he gets questions wrong on his homework. He fights with his siblings but no matter what happens between them he still stands up for them against everyone else. His family is important to him. We just learned that his aorta is narrowing due to his growth spurts, so we are closely watching him. He’s been through a lot but you’d never guess a doctor in the very beginning advised me not to have him. What would that doctor say now? I remind myself every time I have to go to a meeting or get a call from the school, that I told that doctor I’d handle whatever was wrong with that baby. Austin isn’t so bad, actually he is perfectly normal little boy!
