So I went to the police station and asked what they could do. They said that they could, but didn’t think it would do any good. So they said no. Well, after that I decided to hang out there for a while. I thought that maybe it would do some good. Finally, I got to talk to Officer Neal; he decided that it would not hurt to run it again. Then he ran the DNA, and I found out that there was a new found match. He said that he could not discuss it with me. So I told him to contact you or dad. I’m sorry Mom. I just could not help it. Especially after I thought about the new technology. Are you mad at me Mom?”
Grace replied, “Kaitlyn, you may have just put some peace into mine and your father’s hearts. Thank you”
Kaitlyn said, “Oh my Gosh Mom I thought that maybe you would not want to know. You know, since you and Dad gave up on the case.”
Grace said, “Your father and I never gave up on her, we just made our looking discreet.”
Kaitlyn said, “Mom, Why didn’t you and dad tell me?”
Grace said, “Honey, I just didn’t want this to haunt you for your whole life.”
Kaitlyn said, “Oh well, I just wanted to know for sure who I thought it was.”
Grace said, “And who was that?”
Kaitlyn said, “If it was him I will tell you, but I don’t want to screw our life up so you will find out in the morning. Can I go with you in the morning?”
Grace said, “Yes honey, but you have to go and get some rest tonight.”
Kaitlyn said, “Okay mom.”
Grace said, “Goodnight sweetie.”
Kaitlyn said, “Goodnight mom.”
That night Kaitlyn could not sleep. She was too anxious. So she went to the living room and found her mother‘, she was looking through pictures. Kaitlyn went up beside her mother and sat down; they started looking at the pictures together. As they were looking through the old pictures, they found the small bundle of them that were stacked together. Those pictures all had Alicia in them. So Grace started to cry as soon as she started going through them. Those pictures showed Alicia growing up, from newborn till death. As Alicia realized what she was looking at, the knot that had gone away all those years ago had come back, and finally Alicia saw her mother morn for her daughter’s death. Alicia could not handle it, so she went to see her father in the bedroom. This was where he had run as soon as Grace had told him. He was doing nothing. The only reaction he had was to sit there and look at an old picture of him and Alicia sitting on a swing at the park. It seemed as if that he had no emotion at all. All he did was sit there. Alicia could not stand the sight of nothing. She went to sit in the kitchen for the night alone.
The next morning, Alicia found that Kaitlyn, Grace, and George had all been getting ready to leave for the police station. For a moment they all stood in the kitchen and just stared at each other. Alicia had no idea what they were doing, but soon after they headed out the door.
When they finally got to the station, Officer Neal was waiting on them at the front door.
Officer Neal said, “Come on in everyone, except for Kaitlyn, I’m sorry but you have to stay here.”
Kaitlyn replied, “Yes sir.”
Grace said, “We will be right back sweetie.”
Kaitlyn replied, “Okay mom.”
As officer Neal and Kaitlyn’s parents walked into his office Kaitlyn sat down on a chair in the waiting room. She watched in the window, but before they actually started talking, Officer Neal walked over to the window and shut the blinds. So Kaitlyn just pulled a book out of her bag and read.
Alicia was in the office while Officer Neal and her parents sat there and talked, but suddenly she realized she couldn’t believe what she was hearing, so she went and sat by Kaitlyn in the waiting room. They sat there for a while, Alicia would just look over Kaitlyn’s shoulder and start reading her book, but for some reason she couldn’t stay focused. After a while of getting frustrated, Alicia looked up and started watching the door. She just sat and watched the door until finally her parents walked out.
Grace walked toward Kaitlyn and Alicia, but George walked out in hand-cuffs. It was strange to Alicia to see what was in her sight. But as she looked at Alicia, it was the most disturbing sight since she was murdered. Then Alicia realized what was going on, and at the same time so did Kaitlyn.
George was Alicia’s murderer. It was an unbelievable thought to think that a man could do this to his own daughter.

Chapter two
The realization
That night the family went back to the house with the two missing members. They were Alicia who was killed by her own father’s hands, and then there was George who killed his own daughter. The family was hurt beyond belief. They would have never thought that George would have done this.
Kaitlyn and Grace had now realized that George had not had an alibi on the night of the murder. Everyone knew that Grace was at work, but George was just sitting at the bar, for all that everyone else knew, but now that everyone thought about it, George did show up to the scene of the crime awfully quick. Plus, he was not as drunk as usual. Grace was always at home late because of work.
The murderer had a ski mask on, and that was so no one recognized him. Kaitlyn had just now thought about that. Her father had the same body type as the killer. He never wanted to talk about the murder or even Alicia’s life at all. He always changed the subject if someone tried to talk about it. No one had ever gotten through to him. Everyone just thought that he was suppressing his emotions about her. The looks on his face from when she died until now were jut a blur. No one could tell if he was holding emotions in or just feeling guilty. George had not acted right since the night that everyone found out that the unbelievable child was killed. She was his baby until that night.
Now that everyone knows what exactly happened, no one can explain how someone could do this to a child.
The family did have one little secret that was the biggest reason that none of the cops could figure out who was the killer. When biologists compared the DNA of Alicia to the DNA of George, there were no common alleles between the two. George was not Alicia’s real father. No person knew about this except for George and Grace. While thinking about it Alicia figured it out herself. It hurt her more than anything to know that first, George could lie to her about being her father, and second he could rape and kill her without showing any emotion about it whatsoever…
Grace and Kaitlyn had a little talk about it that night and Kaitlyn wondered if George was her real father. The conversation was a very emotional one. Kaitlyn finally worked up the courage to ask her mother the one little question that she had been dying to ask her since she very first heard the words come out of her mother’s mouth.
“Mom?” asked Kaitlyn.
“Yes darling,” answered Grace.
“I know that this is kind of awkward to you, but could you answer a question for me?” said Kaitlyn.
“Of course, anything for you,” answered Grace
“Is dad my real father?” said Kaitlyn.
“Well sweetheart, George and I were never really sure because I broke up with Alicia’s father and then got with George within about a week. Then I found out that I was pregnant with you within about five weeks of dropping and dating another man. The only reason it went that quick was because I had already been talking to George for about three months before I actually broke up with Alicia’s father. George never requested DNA for you. I have always thought that he was not your father, only because you and Alicia always looked so much alike.”
“Who do you believe is my real father.” asked Kaitlyn.
“I believe that you and Alicia have the same father. His name is Jordan Deaver”, she replied.
~~~~Kaitlyn never really thought that George was not her father, but she always felt that he was a little distant from Alicia and her. Things in their family had always seemed “leave it to beaver” to the outside, but from the inside, it was not so perfect. Their family was now more complicated than ever. Kaitlyn was worried about what kind of things would be written about their family now. It was going to be a journey and she could see it now.
The news spread around town faster than Kaitlyn had ever expected, she had no idea it would get that bad. The news papers were covered with old pictures of the crime scene, and her father. That was all people could talk about.
The next day was a Tuesday; she remembered it because she was called to the guidance counselor’s office that day and while she waited that was all there was to look at. She sat in the waiting room for an hour before they finally called her in there. It was about the typical: if u ever need anyone to talk to kind of thing. She told the counselor that if she ever needed to talk it would be with her mother, not a counselor that she doesn’t know. Kaitlyn was sent back to class that day with the rest of the gossiping people in the school.
The only thing going through Kaitlyn’s mind was that the counselor just wanted the inside story and didn’t really care about anything that Kaitlyn was feeling. She didn’t really want to talk about it to anyone; she just wanted to move away and never return to this home full of bad memories. Every time Kaitlyn walked into a room now, everyone went quiet. Kaitlyn felt like she was trapped, she wanted to escape this place. Everyone was talking about her.
Alicia had noticed very quickly that Kaitlyn’s attitude was going to get bad, and in a flash too. Alicia was in shock through the whole thing. It was a horror film flowing through her head. If she could, she would tell her side of the whole thing.
While Kaitlyn was in school, grace was at home packing. She was going to take Kaitlyn to her grandmother’s home in Louisiana, while things calmed down at home. Grace would be staying at their home here in Pennsylvania. Grace didn’t want Kaitlyn going through the trauma of watching the whole county talk about her and her mother. Kaitlyn did not know it yet, but she would be living with her grandmother for the rest of her young-adult life. It would be an unexpected surprise for everyone.
When Kaitlyn returned home from school, she was shocked and upset. She did not want to just leave. Even though that was her thoughts when she saw the counselor, she still did not want to be without her mother, but she did what her mother asked of her with no complaint because she knew her mother was just trying to think about what was best for her. When Kaitlyn got on the train, she was upset.
It was a long goodbye. Her
