lie popped into my head. “My step-dad was an element. I walked in on him one day having a hissy fit and got curious as to why there was fire flying around the kitchen. The whole place got destroyed but I got him to tell me everything he knew about elements.” That shut them all up. The rest of the car ride was spent in silence. One hour twenty minutes of silence.
“We’re here,” Jack muttered jumping out of the car and running towards the mansion/house. I jumped out after him and got my stuff out the car.
“Cathy,” Mrs. James called walking towards me and lowered her voice so only I could hear her “most of the people here are human so please don’t say anything that will make them suspicious of us or tell them what me and my husband are called ok?” she asked.
“Ok Mrs. James,” I replied.
“Oh and call me June and my husband John,” she called walking off. I walked in to the house and was surprised when I entered the house for two reasons. One, it was really modern and huge! Two, Jack was sat in the corner with a little boy sat on his lap reading him a story. A little boy I knew all too well.
“Who’s your most favorite person in the world?” Jack asked my favorite boy in the world.
“You are, you are, you are,” Jas screamed. I faked gasped gaining both their attention. “C-c,” he stuttered.
“I thought I was your most favorite person in the world Jas,” I said in a very sad voice, but I knew he could tell I was faking it.
“Cat,” he screamed jumping into my arms “I thought you were dead!” he screamed “when the witch sent you away in the car with flashing lights. She said you were going to hell and she just helped you go early. She said it was my entire fault, that if you weren’t protecting me she wouldn’t have had to push you down the stairs then stab you!” he sobbed harder into my arms.
“Shh. It was never your fault. I protected you because you never deserved what she told you, you didn’t ever do anything wrong. It was my fault. I had skipped classes that day. I didn’t expect her to find out so soon,” I reassured him.
I looked up and noticed Jack, John and June looking at me. “You were abused and stabbed?”

I ignored the question turning my attention back to the little boy in my arms, the little boy sobbing his heart out. It always hurt me to see Jas in this sort of state. He was like a little brother to me.
“Have you been practising for me like I asked you to?” I asked him knowing that the question would take his mind off of our past and onto the present. When the witch had first taken me on Jas was only a few months old and I automatically known he was an element by his deep blue eyes that had little flecks of golden in them.
“Of co...” Jas started of excitedly with a shine in his eyes, the gold overpowering the blue.
“He refuses to perform for anyone, even me,” Jack cut in, murmuring the last bit like it was morally wrong “We’re starting to think that he can’t control water at all!”
“I can Catty I swear down I can. I practised just like you told me to and I even . . .” Jas started rambling looking me in the eyes willing me to believe, but there was no point. I already did believe him. I had seen him control water before. I lived with him for five years. I was practically his mum in some sense. I was there the first time he got water to float around him like he was the core to a never ending tornado, I changed his diapers when he was smelly, I even enrolled him into his first school so he could live a relatively normal life. I just had to mess it all up and skip school for a day so I could get money for food seeing as the witch spent all the money she got on alcohol and god knows what else.
“Show me what you can do Jas,” I encouraged. Three years ago when I was rushed away in the ambulance he had kept me alive by feeding me some of his energy, so I knew he was a very powerful element. Not the most powerful, but more powerful than your average eight year old.
I watched silently as everyone gaped at the water now swirling around the room. I had to admit, it WAS impressing. “Come on boy,” I said in my old man voice earning giggles from Jas “I know you can do better than that!” I watched amused at everyone’s face as they gawked at the precious items flying around the room or stared amazed at Jas as he sat on my lap giggling.
“Didn’t you know it’s rude to stare,” I murmured moments after Jas had finished his water trick feeling his discomfort.
"How the HELL did you get him to do that?" Jack demanded.
"Don't talk to Catty like that!" Jas replied, anger clear in his voice "She could kick your ass any day!"
"Language Jasper!" me and June scolled at the same time.
"YOU STILL DIDN'T ANSWER MY QUESTION!" Jack screamed at me.
"Don't start PMSing on me Jack. All i did was ask him to do it and he did it." i teased. Jack's eyes went for silver black in a second and was just about to lunge at me. then the door bell went off. "salvi loqui campana (talk about saved by the bell)" i mumbled. yes i like latin. it was my first language. i was born over 200 years ago.
"Cathy?!" a shocked, angry voice came from the door. i spun around.
"Nathan!" i said shocked. thats impossible. he couldn't be here!

I looked up into his eyes. all i could see was wirlpools of anger and hurt. his eyes flared a dangerous red colour and i took a step back. i knew he had a good reason to be angry with me, HELL i'd be angry at me, but he didn't need to start a fight. i put jas down at wispered to him to go stand by Jack until Nathan had calmed down.
i watched as he took a step closer to me, then another, then another. i glanced behind him to see june about to approach him.
"Don't," i warned as she took a small step towards him, worry clear in her eyes.
"DO NOT TALK TO THEM LIKE YOU ARE ANY WAY EQUAL TO THEM!" Nathan growled at me. i gasped as he threw a large fire ball at me and hissed in pain as it scimmed the side of my face "You should be dead right now, rotting in hell. give me one good reason not to kill you now." i new the sensible thing now would be to shut my mouth and not reply so, me being me, opened my mouth,
"Because, you love me and im sorry. im so so sorry. if i could have stopped it i would have. i watched them die," i said, holding back tears.
"wrong answer," he said as his fist collided with my face. Imprint
