During this treatment I once again felt the familiar tingling sensation of the figure behind me. He had been following me at a steady pace to match my own, however my sudden slow due to this thought process had thrown my rythmic gate to a relaxed walk. I could feel that he was keeping his proper distance and was trying not to be noticed, so I let him believe that and continued on with my walk.
Through the gradual passing of time I began to realize the absolute brilliance of my suroundings. The light I held in my hand gave a nice shine which reflected beautifully off the wet walls of the cave, allowing me to see the lack of any life forms whatsoever. I had noticed this at the entrance, but not even a mere plant was seeking refuge here. It made me wonder if perhaps it was the high concentration of minerals in the water that made life here unbearable, but still, all life had stopped at the exact mouth of the cave in a steady halfcircle. Certainly that would call to something more detailed for an explanation.
I didn't really have time for that though to continue as my foot suddenly found that there was no ground beneath it for quite a ways until it landed hard on the downward slope. This had indeed startled me quite a bit so I kept my expansive thinking on the low process to make sure I didn't experience that again. However while regaining myself it was clear the figure let a chuckle escape at my unfortunate scare.
Taking a bit of offense that he would not have warned me or otherwise have helped me in someway I strutted on.
"What if I had not caught myself?" I thought,
"Would he have just watched me tumble?"
Quite easily I glazed over this situation when I spotted a glowing doorway on the edge of the sloping floor. It was a warm light, like one not made from that of an electric bulb, but one of fire. A gentle sound could be heard of a woman humming. I wasn't entirely sure of what came over me when I heard the sound, but I began to tear. The reaction was so startling to myself that I daren't rememebr any foul occurrence before this. Almost frantically I began to wipe my eyes with my sleeves while only slightly bothering to make sure I did not drop the lantern. This of course led to the inevitable dropping of the lantern and although I had dried my eyes, now felt like a fool for a different set of reasons. I watched in foul taste as the lantern rolled away and I shunned it with my thoughts for doing so, as if it chose too.
"Composure." I reminded myself inwardly and reflected on the current lack of control over my emotions.
"Retrieve the lantern." I voiced quietly as my spirit calmed and I regained my hold upon myself and started off after the light which had stopped itself quite humorously, by catching it's handle on a lump of the cave floor.
