the stake out. The man shrieked in agony, retching and convulsing from the pain he felt.

“Please Sir, stop.” The Supernatural begged in a raspy voice.

My father’s lip curled in disgust. “Stay still and quiet and this will go a lot easier.”

I swallowed back the bile that had been building up in my throat from watching the man-or at least what looked like a man, be taken down and on the brink of death.

The wolf shuddered and tried to turn to face my father, as if he wanted to speak to him with the respect we humans showed one another. My dad wasn’t having it though, he shoved the werewolf back down onto its stomach. The Supernatural whimpered pitifully.

“Please-don’t do this. My wife and children, they need me. They need me to care for them. Sir please, find it in your heart to spare me.” The wolf coughed and blood sprayed onto the grass in front of him.

My dad ignored its pleas and didn’t even say a word. He positioned the silver stake where the wolf’s heart was, pulled back his arm, and sank the weapon into the creature’s back.

The Supernatural let out a furious scream of surprise that seemed to last an eternity. When the life finally drained out of him, the werewolf shivered and fell silent.

My dad jumped up and dusted himself off, removing his stake from the creature’s flesh and wiping the blood off with a cloth.

“Come help me with this Drake, will you?”

I cautiously walked over, taking care not to look at the dead Supernatural’s face as my father and I hoisted the body up onto our shoulders.

We began our trek back into town. My stomach rolled at the feel of the creature’s still warm skin beginning to chill, and I couldn’t understand how my father didn’t feel the same disgust. I supposed he was just used to it.
