chanted.
āHome is far awayā¦āMy mind smirked. I revved up the engine and hit max speedā¦ The fog made it unclearā¦Itās like driving a car blindfolded. I promise Iāll listen here after anything he saysā¦please let me be home safeā¦ I said.
A heard huge thud and my car screeched under the impact of the huge objectā¦It swerved and cut into the nearby mountain wall, The scream barely escaped my lips when I heard a loud growl eruptā¦I didnāt dare see what it was because I knew it had followed me hereā¦ and then I heard a crack on my windshield, I peeped at the thing in fearā¦Itās jaws unclenched making a deep rumble sound, saliva dripping through its canines, blood red tongue slopping sidewardās as it started its preyā¦It raised its huge paw preparing for another impact on the windshield. The wind shield broke and my cry tore through the silent night skyā¦
The beast reached out for meā¦I jumped out the car and made a mad dash into the nightā¦My feet and legs hurt from all the running yet I didnāt lose the beastā¦Itās paw tore through my skin on the backā¦Fear gripped my heart, the claws tore through the skin deeperā¦I fell screaming in painā¦ the silhouette of the beast loomed towards me as I lay on the floor paralyzed by fearā¦
āTake her homeā¦ā I heard the familiar voice of Alanā¦ I raised my head to see Alan standing between me and the beastā¦ He stole a glance towards me and his concerned gaze melt my heartā¦ his eyes told many things to me of which I could make out one thing particularly; he was really sorry for letting this happen to me.
āRoseā¦ā Aaronās warm breath brushed against my skinā¦ He scooped me up gently in his arms as I screamed in pain when he touched my wounded skinā¦he shifted me and held me close trying to avoid contact with the wounded skinā¦ āYouāll be okayā¦ā he murmured.
āAlanā¦We need to help himā¦That beast would kill himā¦āI squeaked. āHe will be fineā¦ā he mumbled giving me a soft kiss on the foreheadā¦ āHelp himā¦ā I fell unconscious as the last ounce of my strength faded away.
āUm..Roseā¦ā Alan said tentativelyā¦I turned towards him ignoring the notes that I have been takingā¦āCan I ask you a favorā¦?ā he asked. āSureā¦Do you need my notesā¦?ā āWhat are you doing tonightā¦?ā he asked tentativelyā¦. Is he asking me for a date? Why would heā¦? A mischievous grin spread through my faceā¦ āDonāt go out anywhere at night todayā¦itās not safeā¦āHe finished hurriedly as if he knew what Iām thinking and wanted to crash all my misunderstanding towards him. I shrugged and resumed scribbling in my notes.
It was replaced by another vision from the previous dayā¦ I was driving towards the Simpsonās diner as the music blared in my systemā¦The phone vibrated in my pocketā¦I turned off the musicā¦ āRoseā¦where are youā¦?ā Ron shouted. āIām heading towards the dinerā¦ā āTurn back to homeā¦nowā¦ā His voice was hoarse with anger. āSince when are you demanding me something to doā¦ā I cut him off and clicked the phone shut. Whatās with these brothers todayā¦? Have they gone madā¦?
My thoughts were cut off by a loud growl that erupted somewhere near by my sideā¦ I saw a huge dog running towards my carā¦ as it closed the distanceā¦I saw how huge it was reallyā¦It let out a ear piercing howl as it jumped and landed on my bonnet. It fisted itās paw on my windshieldā¦Itās canines grinding and fixing itās eyes on meā¦My heart began to pound at my chest as I saw the unnaturally huge dog sitting on my bonnet and trying to kill meā¦I jolted the car into a start and swayed through the roads hoping the beast would slide off the bonnet but it pinned itās nails into my car getting a good grip without fallingā¦ I swerved past the roads and hit something solid knocking the beast off the car by its sudden impactā¦ taking my chance I back tracked and drove backā¦
My vision blurred as the remnants of the vision faded off. It still gave me goose bumps to remember last night eventsā¦ āIs she consciousā¦?ā Alanās voice was firm. My eyes flicked open as I heard his familiar voice comforting my internal turmoil.
āAlanā¦āI jumped into him for a hugā¦ āIām alive and youāre aliveā¦ā I replied eyes wide with surprise and joyā¦ āYesā¦You areā¦ā Ron smirked. Alan wiggled away from me uncomfortablyā¦ I fell back embarrassedā¦ My skin stung as I moved and pain shot through my back...I screamed in painā¦ āRoseā¦ā Tears trickled through my eyes as the pain kicked inā¦ āMomā¦.āRon ran outside the room.
An elderly woman walked in time to see me screaming in bedā¦ As the medicine kicked inā¦ my aching back eased off a bitā¦ āDonāt let her sleep on her backā¦āher motherly soft voice said. Ron held me close preventing me from falling and hurting my backā¦ The elderly came in at regular intervals cleaning my wounds and giving me medicinesā¦
āRonā¦I think you should rest a whileā¦Iāll take care of herā¦ā Alan said eying his brother who is holding the fragile girl in his handsā¦ āItās okayā¦Alā¦āhe said. āNoā¦ You need to rest tooā¦ā the women said sternlyā¦ Ron gave up and tentatively let Rose goā¦She curled up into a ball and flinched as the wounds stung a bitā¦
Alan held herā¦she cuddled closer to himā¦ her innocent face held a sweet smile nowā¦ Ron and his mother left them alone. āAlanā¦āRose whispered in her dream. Alan stared at herā¦ her flushed cheeks and her smile allured him more than anythingā¦How can a mere human be so captivatingā¦? He thought. He kissed her gently on the forehead and cursed as soon as he did itā¦Ron likes herā¦He chanted.
It was really weird the hooded eyes that seemed to haunt all her dreams were the only thing that kept her sane and comfortable in this hectic time of hersā¦
āYou are awakeā¦āA pair of blue eyes stared at herā¦ She took in the women who nursed her all these timeā¦ Ron helped me sit up in the bed. āHow are you feelingā¦?ā She asked checking my temperature. I checked my backā¦it didnāt even sting āSurprisingly betterā¦ā I didnāt even know her nameā¦ āMy motherā¦Janeā¦ā Ron said smiling.
āThanks for everythingā¦um...Mrs. Blakeā¦ā I said smilingā¦āCall me, Jane, dear.ā She replied.
āMommyā¦āA little girl about Lizās age padded inā¦ āYou arenāt sleepingā¦ā Her eyes went wide with surprise as she saw me. Ron helped her up as she tried to get into my bed. āMy little sister, Katieā¦ā Ron said smiling. āKatā¦āshe corrected him. āYeah! Katā¦ā Ron mumbled. Even this little had a problem with her nameā¦I laughed as I remembered how Ron used to correct us.
Her smile grew as she saw me laugh. āAlanā¦Is he hurt tooā¦ā I asked remembering for the first how I was saved. āNoā¦he is really good. I frowned how he could take down such a beast without even a scratch. āHe shot the wolfā¦ā Ron said. I nodded.
āHow many days was I outā¦?ā I asked. āJust the weekendā¦ā Ron said. āI should probably go home, nowā¦āI said. āNoā¦You are staying here, dearā¦āMrs. Blake said sternly.
āCan we play, mommyā¦ā Kat asked enveloping her hand in mine. A silent exchange passed between Mrs. Blake and Ron. āKatā¦Big Al has a surprise for youā¦ā Ron said. āLionā¦?ā she asked jumping into his open hands. Ron chuckled as he carried her away.
āShe is a cute little girlā¦so like my little sisterā¦ā Mrs. Blake smiled. āThey are just scars nowā¦āMr. Blake said, unwrapping the bandages on my back. She gave a smooth linen white shirt. The shirt had the faint smell of cologneā¦
I curled up myself on the bed as the sun rays sank lowā¦ āStay homeā¦āAlanās voice taunted me in my dreamsā¦I woke up unable to sleep. He didnāt mention something like it on that day tooā¦It was like he knew something was going to happen. Howā¦? I pulled the quilt closer to me and walked cautiously out of the roomā¦I didnāt know where I was planning to go but my feet dragged me on their own accordā¦ Blakeās house was lavishly decoratedā¦ The wooden floor creaked slightly under my weight, there are many famous painting hung against the walls, I walked past them and I flinched as If I felt their gaze on me.
A mellow light spread from the corner roomā¦I made my way slowly towards itā¦What would I say if someone saw me sneaking at nightsā¦I better go up but my heart longed to see what was hidden behind those doors. I stood tentatively at the door weighing my optionsā¦
āDonāt stand thereā¦youāll get cold feetā¦ā Ron chuckled. Ron and Alan were sitting on the huge couch watching sportsā¦ āI couldnāt sleepā¦āI stammered.
āComeā¦ā Ron gestured slapping on the couch beside him. I walked towards him tentativelyā¦ I sat there awkwardly thinking how I should askā¦āWhat is itā¦?ā Alan asked. āWhatā¦?ā I frowned. āYou feel like asking somethingā¦āAlan said. How did he know that? āOn that dayā¦you told something about the night being not safeā¦Howā¦?ā I stammered.
āI didnāt say anything like thatā¦ā He quickly replied. āNoā¦you did.ā I pouted. āWhatās happeningā¦?ā Ron asked budging in between us. āAlā¦Did youā¦?ā Ronās eyes were stern and it looked as if he is scrutinizing him.
āI didā¦I thought it would be better if we warn herā¦ā he said. Ron looked at his brother with a grim expressionā¦ At times like this I get to know Ron is the elder of the twoā¦
āAlā¦you shouldnāt have done thatā¦youāre putting our plan in jeopardyā¦āRon said.āHeyā¦What plan..?ā I asked. The two brothers stared at each other for a while and finally Ron nodded. āHeyā¦You two just talkā¦Itās insane to stare at others without talkingā¦ā I shouted.
āWe are sort of here to protect youā¦ā Ron said. āProtect meā¦? Why would I need protection?ā I asked. Alan shrugged his shouldersā¦ āWe donāt knowā¦We were just told to protect youā¦ā āThe better question would be from what we are protecting youā¦āRon said. He looked suddenly grim, his boyish face turned into a serious looking young man.
āWhat are you protecting from?āI dreaded his answer because part of me knew that the answer is not good. āThings like that you encountered three nights agoā¦āRon said. I remembered huge thing tearing my skin with its clawsā¦ I flinched at that memory. Ron squeezed my handsā¦ āIt wonāt happen againā¦āRon said. Alan nodded. āWhat was that thingā¦?ā I shivered as I spokeā¦ āItās werewolfā¦ā
āAā¦?ā I asked wide mouthed. āYou are kiddingā¦āI said but part of me knew that he was telling me the truth. āIf thatās a werewolfā¦ you are what a vampireā¦?ā I humored the disgust on their face clearly said they are not. āWe are not vampiresā¦āRon said the word vampires with disgust. I raised my eyebrows questioningly.
āWe are the eternalsā¦ā he said squaring his shouldersā¦.I burst into laughā¦ āIām sorryā¦Itās just the name sounded so cheesyā¦āI said. āWhatā¦maybe you like the dark knights betterā¦ā he scoffed. āTad betterā¦ā I laughed.
āYou are laughing instead of worrying about all thisā¦ā Alan asked. āI have heard the tales from my granmaā¦she believed that they existed so may be part of me believed in her too. I found it shocking for a while to actually meet one in flesh but I guess that didnāt freak me outā¦ā
