chanted.

ā€œHome is far awayā€¦ā€My mind smirked. I revved up the engine and hit max speedā€¦ The fog made it unclearā€¦Itā€™s like driving a car blindfolded. I promise Iā€™ll listen here after anything he saysā€¦please let me be home safeā€¦ I said.

A heard huge thud and my car screeched under the impact of the huge objectā€¦It swerved and cut into the nearby mountain wall, The scream barely escaped my lips when I heard a loud growl eruptā€¦I didnā€™t dare see what it was because I knew it had followed me hereā€¦ and then I heard a crack on my windshield, I peeped at the thing in fearā€¦Itā€™s jaws unclenched making a deep rumble sound, saliva dripping through its canines, blood red tongue slopping sidewardā€™s as it started its preyā€¦It raised its huge paw preparing for another impact on the windshield. The wind shield broke and my cry tore through the silent night skyā€¦

The beast reached out for meā€¦I jumped out the car and made a mad dash into the nightā€¦My feet and legs hurt from all the running yet I didnā€™t lose the beastā€¦Itā€™s paw tore through my skin on the backā€¦Fear gripped my heart, the claws tore through the skin deeperā€¦I fell screaming in painā€¦ the silhouette of the beast loomed towards me as I lay on the floor paralyzed by fearā€¦

ā€œTake her homeā€¦ā€ I heard the familiar voice of Alanā€¦ I raised my head to see Alan standing between me and the beastā€¦ He stole a glance towards me and his concerned gaze melt my heartā€¦ his eyes told many things to me of which I could make out one thing particularly; he was really sorry for letting this happen to me.

ā€œRoseā€¦ā€ Aaronā€™s warm breath brushed against my skinā€¦ He scooped me up gently in his arms as I screamed in pain when he touched my wounded skinā€¦he shifted me and held me close trying to avoid contact with the wounded skinā€¦ ā€œYouā€™ll be okayā€¦ā€ he murmured.

ā€œAlanā€¦We need to help himā€¦That beast would kill himā€¦ā€I squeaked. ā€œHe will be fineā€¦ā€ he mumbled giving me a soft kiss on the foreheadā€¦ ā€œHelp himā€¦ā€ I fell unconscious as the last ounce of my strength faded away.

ā€œUm..Roseā€¦ā€ Alan said tentativelyā€¦I turned towards him ignoring the notes that I have been takingā€¦ā€Can I ask you a favorā€¦?ā€ he asked. ā€œSureā€¦Do you need my notesā€¦?ā€ ā€œWhat are you doing tonightā€¦?ā€ he asked tentativelyā€¦. Is he asking me for a date? Why would heā€¦? A mischievous grin spread through my faceā€¦ ā€œDonā€™t go out anywhere at night todayā€¦itā€™s not safeā€¦ā€He finished hurriedly as if he knew what Iā€™m thinking and wanted to crash all my misunderstanding towards him. I shrugged and resumed scribbling in my notes.

It was replaced by another vision from the previous dayā€¦ I was driving towards the Simpsonā€™s diner as the music blared in my systemā€¦The phone vibrated in my pocketā€¦I turned off the musicā€¦ ā€œRoseā€¦where are youā€¦?ā€ Ron shouted. ā€œIā€™m heading towards the dinerā€¦ā€ ā€œTurn back to homeā€¦nowā€¦ā€ His voice was hoarse with anger. ā€œSince when are you demanding me something to doā€¦ā€ I cut him off and clicked the phone shut. Whatā€™s with these brothers todayā€¦? Have they gone madā€¦?

My thoughts were cut off by a loud growl that erupted somewhere near by my sideā€¦ I saw a huge dog running towards my carā€¦ as it closed the distanceā€¦I saw how huge it was reallyā€¦It let out a ear piercing howl as it jumped and landed on my bonnet. It fisted itā€™s paw on my windshieldā€¦Itā€™s canines grinding and fixing itā€™s eyes on meā€¦My heart began to pound at my chest as I saw the unnaturally huge dog sitting on my bonnet and trying to kill meā€¦I jolted the car into a start and swayed through the roads hoping the beast would slide off the bonnet but it pinned itā€™s nails into my car getting a good grip without fallingā€¦ I swerved past the roads and hit something solid knocking the beast off the car by its sudden impactā€¦ taking my chance I back tracked and drove backā€¦

My vision blurred as the remnants of the vision faded off. It still gave me goose bumps to remember last night eventsā€¦ ā€œIs she consciousā€¦?ā€ Alanā€™s voice was firm. My eyes flicked open as I heard his familiar voice comforting my internal turmoil.

ā€œAlanā€¦ā€I jumped into him for a hugā€¦ ā€œIā€™m alive and youā€™re aliveā€¦ā€ I replied eyes wide with surprise and joyā€¦ ā€œYesā€¦You areā€¦ā€ Ron smirked. Alan wiggled away from me uncomfortablyā€¦ I fell back embarrassedā€¦ My skin stung as I moved and pain shot through my back...I screamed in painā€¦ ā€œRoseā€¦ā€ Tears trickled through my eyes as the pain kicked inā€¦ ā€œMomā€¦.ā€Ron ran outside the room.

An elderly woman walked in time to see me screaming in bedā€¦ As the medicine kicked inā€¦ my aching back eased off a bitā€¦ ā€œDonā€™t let her sleep on her backā€¦ā€her motherly soft voice said. Ron held me close preventing me from falling and hurting my backā€¦ The elderly came in at regular intervals cleaning my wounds and giving me medicinesā€¦

ā€œRonā€¦I think you should rest a whileā€¦Iā€™ll take care of herā€¦ā€ Alan said eying his brother who is holding the fragile girl in his handsā€¦ ā€œItā€™s okayā€¦Alā€¦ā€he said. ā€œNoā€¦ You need to rest tooā€¦ā€ the women said sternlyā€¦ Ron gave up and tentatively let Rose goā€¦She curled up into a ball and flinched as the wounds stung a bitā€¦

Alan held herā€¦she cuddled closer to himā€¦ her innocent face held a sweet smile nowā€¦ Ron and his mother left them alone. ā€œAlanā€¦ā€Rose whispered in her dream. Alan stared at herā€¦ her flushed cheeks and her smile allured him more than anythingā€¦How can a mere human be so captivatingā€¦? He thought. He kissed her gently on the forehead and cursed as soon as he did itā€¦Ron likes herā€¦He chanted.

It was really weird the hooded eyes that seemed to haunt all her dreams were the only thing that kept her sane and comfortable in this hectic time of hersā€¦

ā€œYou are awakeā€¦ā€A pair of blue eyes stared at herā€¦ She took in the women who nursed her all these timeā€¦ Ron helped me sit up in the bed. ā€œHow are you feelingā€¦?ā€ She asked checking my temperature. I checked my backā€¦it didnā€™t even sting ā€œSurprisingly betterā€¦ā€ I didnā€™t even know her nameā€¦ ā€œMy motherā€¦Janeā€¦ā€ Ron said smiling.

ā€œThanks for everythingā€¦um...Mrs. Blakeā€¦ā€ I said smilingā€¦ā€Call me, Jane, dear.ā€ She replied.

ā€œMommyā€¦ā€A little girl about Lizā€™s age padded inā€¦ ā€œYou arenā€™t sleepingā€¦ā€ Her eyes went wide with surprise as she saw me. Ron helped her up as she tried to get into my bed. ā€œMy little sister, Katieā€¦ā€ Ron said smiling. ā€œKatā€¦ā€she corrected him. ā€œYeah! Katā€¦ā€ Ron mumbled. Even this little had a problem with her nameā€¦I laughed as I remembered how Ron used to correct us.

Her smile grew as she saw me laugh. ā€œAlanā€¦Is he hurt tooā€¦ā€ I asked remembering for the first how I was saved. ā€œNoā€¦he is really good. I frowned how he could take down such a beast without even a scratch. ā€œHe shot the wolfā€¦ā€ Ron said. I nodded.

ā€œHow many days was I outā€¦?ā€ I asked. ā€œJust the weekendā€¦ā€ Ron said. ā€œI should probably go home, nowā€¦ā€I said. ā€œNoā€¦You are staying here, dearā€¦ā€Mrs. Blake said sternly.

ā€œCan we play, mommyā€¦ā€ Kat asked enveloping her hand in mine. A silent exchange passed between Mrs. Blake and Ron. ā€œKatā€¦Big Al has a surprise for youā€¦ā€ Ron said. ā€œLionā€¦?ā€ she asked jumping into his open hands. Ron chuckled as he carried her away.

ā€œShe is a cute little girlā€¦so like my little sisterā€¦ā€ Mrs. Blake smiled. ā€œThey are just scars nowā€¦ā€Mr. Blake said, unwrapping the bandages on my back. She gave a smooth linen white shirt. The shirt had the faint smell of cologneā€¦

I curled up myself on the bed as the sun rays sank lowā€¦ ā€œStay homeā€¦ā€Alanā€™s voice taunted me in my dreamsā€¦I woke up unable to sleep. He didnā€™t mention something like it on that day tooā€¦It was like he knew something was going to happen. Howā€¦? I pulled the quilt closer to me and walked cautiously out of the roomā€¦I didnā€™t know where I was planning to go but my feet dragged me on their own accordā€¦ Blakeā€™s house was lavishly decoratedā€¦ The wooden floor creaked slightly under my weight, there are many famous painting hung against the walls, I walked past them and I flinched as If I felt their gaze on me.

A mellow light spread from the corner roomā€¦I made my way slowly towards itā€¦What would I say if someone saw me sneaking at nightsā€¦I better go up but my heart longed to see what was hidden behind those doors. I stood tentatively at the door weighing my optionsā€¦

ā€œDonā€™t stand thereā€¦youā€™ll get cold feetā€¦ā€ Ron chuckled. Ron and Alan were sitting on the huge couch watching sportsā€¦ ā€œI couldnā€™t sleepā€¦ā€I stammered.

ā€œComeā€¦ā€ Ron gestured slapping on the couch beside him. I walked towards him tentativelyā€¦ I sat there awkwardly thinking how I should askā€¦ā€œWhat is itā€¦?ā€ Alan asked. ā€œWhatā€¦?ā€ I frowned. ā€œYou feel like asking somethingā€¦ā€Alan said. How did he know that? ā€œOn that dayā€¦you told something about the night being not safeā€¦Howā€¦?ā€ I stammered.

ā€œI didnā€™t say anything like thatā€¦ā€ He quickly replied. ā€œNoā€¦you did.ā€ I pouted. ā€œWhatā€™s happeningā€¦?ā€ Ron asked budging in between us. ā€œAlā€¦Did youā€¦?ā€ Ronā€™s eyes were stern and it looked as if he is scrutinizing him.

ā€œI didā€¦I thought it would be better if we warn herā€¦ā€ he said. Ron looked at his brother with a grim expressionā€¦ At times like this I get to know Ron is the elder of the twoā€¦

ā€œAlā€¦you shouldnā€™t have done thatā€¦youā€™re putting our plan in jeopardyā€¦ā€Ron said.ā€Heyā€¦What plan..?ā€ I asked. The two brothers stared at each other for a while and finally Ron nodded. ā€œHeyā€¦You two just talkā€¦Itā€™s insane to stare at others without talkingā€¦ā€ I shouted.

ā€œWe are sort of here to protect youā€¦ā€ Ron said. ā€œProtect meā€¦? Why would I need protection?ā€ I asked. Alan shrugged his shouldersā€¦ ā€œWe donā€™t knowā€¦We were just told to protect youā€¦ā€ ā€œThe better question would be from what we are protecting youā€¦ā€Ron said. He looked suddenly grim, his boyish face turned into a serious looking young man.

ā€œWhat are you protecting from?ā€I dreaded his answer because part of me knew that the answer is not good. ā€œThings like that you encountered three nights agoā€¦ā€Ron said. I remembered huge thing tearing my skin with its clawsā€¦ I flinched at that memory. Ron squeezed my handsā€¦ ā€œIt wonā€™t happen againā€¦ā€Ron said. Alan nodded. ā€œWhat was that thingā€¦?ā€ I shivered as I spokeā€¦ ā€œItā€™s werewolfā€¦ā€

ā€œAā€¦?ā€ I asked wide mouthed. ā€œYou are kiddingā€¦ā€I said but part of me knew that he was telling me the truth. ā€œIf thatā€™s a werewolfā€¦ you are what a vampireā€¦?ā€ I humored the disgust on their face clearly said they are not. ā€œWe are not vampiresā€¦ā€Ron said the word vampires with disgust. I raised my eyebrows questioningly.

ā€œWe are the eternalsā€¦ā€ he said squaring his shouldersā€¦.I burst into laughā€¦ ā€œIā€™m sorryā€¦Itā€™s just the name sounded so cheesyā€¦ā€I said. ā€œWhatā€¦maybe you like the dark knights betterā€¦ā€ he scoffed. ā€œTad betterā€¦ā€ I laughed.

ā€œYou are laughing instead of worrying about all thisā€¦ā€ Alan asked. ā€œI have heard the tales from my granmaā€¦she believed that they existed so may be part of me believed in her too. I found it shocking for a while to actually meet one in flesh but I guess that didnā€™t freak me outā€¦ā€
