“So you’re heading out soon?” My friend asked me. I nodded. He grinned, closed his eyes, and crossed his arms, giving a small laugh. Suddenly, his grin vanished and it felt like this would be the last time I ever saw him smile. Then, I felt a bit sad. Leaving to join the military, letting my family and friends worry about me. It just didn’t feel right.
Soon, the train arrived and I boarded. I had a first class ticket, so I sat in the front. Luxurious seats sat around tables and booths near the windows. This is the first time I’d ever seen a first class train cart. I sat at one of the booths, where no one else sat. A few more people entered the cart with me. I grabbed a yellow folder that held files of a few unimportant documents. I searched through, seeing exactly what was in there, then I found my ticket. I pulled out my ticket and stuffed it in my left pocket, just in case if someone came in to check for tickets. I stared out the window at the city I lived in. Farewell, good friends and family. One day, I hope I can come back here. I took classes to enroll in one of the four branches of the military during my highschool years. Memories I won’t forget from those classes. I’d made friends and re-met some of my older friends. Some of them had dropped out of high school, some quit the class, and others just continued with it. When I finally reached this point today, when I graduated, I headed to a recruitment center and joined the armed forces. They put me through some tests, which were damn hard, but I got passed, what seemed to be just barely. It was a true pain, just to get through those damn tests, but now I’m on a train to an airport, to go to Hawaii.
I arrived in Texas. Now, it seems like everyone who was going to Hawaii just flowed in one big pack, so I followed the pack. It took a while before we got to the airport, and it also seems that there was a plane reserved for us already. We all ended up getting on the plane. I sat on the right end of the middle row of seats, with two other to my left. The one right next to me was nervous, I could tell. The one to the far left didn’t seem to give a fuck at all, he just pulled a cigarette and lit it. To me, he looks like he’s about six years or so older than me, in his twenties. The nervous one doesn’t look but about my age. When I looked to my right, I saw two people. One was just relaxing, his head on the back of his seat. The other one looked out the window. Honestly, I was nervous, too. I was also a bit scared, as well. This is my first day, so why wouldn’t I be scared? They told us the flight would take about seven hours, so we’ll get there before tomorrow. There were a bit more people than I expected to be on this flight. In fact, there’s a lot more. I have a feeling that all these people are at least a bit scared, except the person smoking a cigarette.
