Three days after the funeral of Dr. h.c. Johannes Kolbe (8 November 2013) I was once again in front of his grave and was surprised by the many wreaths. For me this was also a very positive sign, because even after its economic collapse in 1996, he remained not forgotten in his essence and help prepare his Catholic faith.
Old trees and the finiteness of lifeAfter these thoughtful experiences it pulled me back to the quarry and from there into a forest, where I staggered the old, rotten tree trunks in a particular mood. I came from the grave of a man of honor, who had become with grace 86 years old and now experienced gnarled trees that had become perhaps 200 or 300 years old before they collapsed, tired or remained as rotten leftovers.

Another interesting and impressive year in a beautiful landscape goes to an end. However, this year I was confronted with the death of a local personality, has experienced the ups and downs. This is also the scale and orientation for my own life. I have also have to grapple with existential questions. Full of conviction, I may say, without my second wife, Jutta Hartmann-Metzger, I would not have found the way out of trouble again.
