it helps me sleep because we have a big day of appointments and club business tomorrow that I have to take Adan to. I need my rest.

“What do you see in the doc?” Adan asks, out of the blue.

“Daniel?”

He nods.

“I don’t know, I guess I thought maybe if I try to date a nice man ...”

“Won’t work if he doesn’t do anything for you.”

“He’s good looking, and smart, and ...”

“And he can’t make your pussy wet. He doesn’t make your heart race.”

“He also doesn’t make me cry,” I say. “He doesn’t hurt me and make me feel like I’m nothing.”

“Who did that to you?”

I clamp my mouth closed.

I’ve never told anybody my story, not even Eve. I’m not about to tell Adan.

“You got a shady past?” Adan questions.

“Don’t we all?”

“No. What’s yours?”

“Straight to the point,” I murmur.

“I don’t beat around the bush.”

“You also don’t like me—I’m not about to spill my guts to you. It’s beside the point, anyway. There is nothing wrong with wanting to date a nice man. Not a single thing.”

“There is if you’re wastin’ his time.”

I look to him, scrunching my nose up. “What makes you think it would be a waste of his time?”

He exhales with a grunt. “You date, push yourself to marry him because you think he’s nice. You have kids, buy a house, do all the things together, but you’re bored, you’re so fuckin’ bored you can barely keep your head above water. You haven’t had an orgasm from a man for years, your husband doesn’t give you the passion you want, and so you find yourself in the bed of a man that makes your heart and soul come alive. Then, after a few months, you can’t take your miserable life anymore so you leave the man you married because he was fuckin’ ‘nice’ and you end up wastin’ his time. The end.”

“Wow,” I laugh softly. “That was quite the description.”

Also accurate as hell.

“It was the truth,” he mutters, leaning back into the sofa, stretching his arms up and yawning.

My knees go a little weak. He’s gorgeous, and it takes everything, and I mean everything, not to climb onto his lap and beg him to fuck me, to kiss me, to put his mouth all over my body.

I sip my tea, not focusing on him for a second longer.

“Well, it doesn’t mean I can’t give Daniel another chance. He deserves that, at least to make him feel better.”

“He won’t feel better, not until he plunges his cock into you and he can prove to himself he can make it hard. He’s not the man for you.”

I laugh again. “You’re so descriptive. I am going to give him another chance, and if that’s how it ends, then so be it.”

Adan snorts. “Have at it. Good luck to you.”

“Anyone would think you’re jealous.”

He stands up and turns so he’s facing me, then he reaches down, putting his finger under my chin and tipping my head back so I am looking up at him. “Nothin’ to be jealous about, sweetheart.”

Then he walks away.

Argh.

He’s driving me crazy.

And he damn well knows it.

Maybe it’s my turn to drive him a little crazy in return.

“YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT Adan likes?” Beckett asks me, leaning back against the hood of one of the cars they’re fixing, smoke in his hand, looking fine as hell.

“Yes, I want to know what gets his juices flowing.”

“Women.”

I roll my eyes. “No, I mean ... has he got a preference? There has to be something, everyone has something. Does he have a soft spot for teachers or doctors? Does he like blondes or brunettes? Is he an ass man, or is he a tit man? Come on, you have all been together for so long, you have to know something.”

Remy grunts from beside Beckett. “Adan likes pussy, pure and simple.”

“You’re not helping me!” I cry, throwing my hands up.

“Man likes bad girls,” Hank says, walking up behind me clearly having been listening to our conversation. “He likes a naughty girl who will submit and do as he asks. He’s an ass man, no doubt about it. Loves short skirts and heels. Makes him hard just seein’ a woman suck on a damned lollypop. You do that, he’ll be weak at the fuckin’ knees.”

“Thank you!” I say, glancing at the other two. “See, that wasn’t so hard.”

“Didn’t know Hank was such a fuckin’ girl, knowin’ all that about another man,” Beckett mutters with a grin.

“Fuck up, Captain,” Hank throws at him. “Know my brothers, could tell her plenty on what you like and don’t like, but I’m sure you wouldn’t want that shared.”

Beckett glares at him.

“Fuckin’ simmer down, you two,” Remy says, waving a hand as he walks off back inside the garage.

“Well, I appreciate your input,” I say to Hank. “I’ll make sure to get him on this one.”

“Not sure what’s so hard about it,” Beckett points out. “He’s a horny little shit, he always has been. Man has had more pussy than all of us put together. Give him a side eye and he’s got a fuckin’ hard on. Not sure what’s confusing about that.”

Well, more than one part of that sentence just hurt my heart. The first one being that he’s had a lot of women, I’m not sure why that bothers me, but it does. The second being that he’s easy to turn on, which means I’m not doing a single thing for him and that kind of frustrates me. It might even hurt my heart, just a little.

“Well, I guess in this case his determination is harder than his dick.”

I wave as I turn and walk away to them all chuckling. I grin, because I can’t help it.

They make me laugh.

I like them a lot.

I walk to Wildflowers’ and grab my favorite seat that Eve always leaves free for me. She sees me and waves, walking over. “How’s it going? You given him a boner yet?”

“Eve!” Doris scoffs from her spot, already having turned when I
