the same in a counter-clockwise pattern. When both completed their rotation, he brought them together with his palms touching, as though in prayer, and then pushed both out at the same time. His excitement rose when a ball of green energy formed in his outstretched hands and shot forward toward the bobcat. The orb of power hit the animal on the side and it stumbled backward.

You dealt 4 HP damage to Bobcat with Nature’s Fury.

Woo Hoo! Finally managed a spell.

The Bobcat cut short his internal celebration as it jumped for him, mouth open. His glee from casting a spell caused him to stumble as he tried to get his dagger back in his hand. He missed the counter swipe and ended up with two more spots of burning pain.

Bobcat dealt 4 HP damage to you with Biting Claw.

I’m not about to die to a stupid cat. Need the experience to level up.

Atlas grit his teeth and squeezed the handle of his knife. Time to finish this.

He activated Double Slash again and followed the ghostly image. His blade sliced into the creature’s side and then swung back the other way and caught it in the neck.

You dealt 3 HP damage to Bobcat with Double Slash.

Bobcat died.

You gained 15 experience.

The small animal collapsed, and Atlas walked to the corpse. The loot box appeared when he reached for it.

Loot - Bobcat (Level 3)

•     Rough Feline Claw x 3

•     Raw Bobcat Hide x 1

Nothing super special, but I’m sure the hide will fetch a decent price. He accepted both of the items and the claws dropped into his hand. A soft hide appeared immediately after, rolled up the same as the squirrel’s had been.

Atlas looked around to see if the rabbit was nearby but saw nothing. He checked himself and didn’t see any wounds anywhere. A quick thought showed his HP at 33. His health didn’t seem to regenerate on its own. He was still missing the 1 HP from stabbing himself with his own dagger in the bag.

If health doesn’t regenerate here, I’ll need to find out what can restore it and keep it in stock.

An enormous boulder stood out in the distance, drawing his curiosity, so Atlas headed through the trees in its direction. Flowers carpeted the ground in a small clearing and the boulder sat directly in the center. The oddly serene area stopped him in his tracks. Something akin to a stillness settled over him and a feeling of peace filled him. Even the air felt suddenly fresher.

Out-of-place stuff like this always has something bad in it. He turned away from the clearing when something caught his eye. Vines covered in small red flowers crawled along the side of the boulder. Of course they would be in this weird place.

He let out a heavy sigh and turned his attention to the plants. A quick glance showed nothing in the immediate area, so he walked into the clearing. As soon as his foot brushed against the first flower, a chittering sound echoed through the space. Soft brown fur sprouted from the tall grass near the boulder and a large bushy tail emerged behind it. The small animal stood on its back feet and stared at Atlas.

Another squirrel! Perfect practice for my combat. His spell work needed the most practice, so he activated Nature’s Fury.

You have entered combat!

The movements were easier this time as he followed the same pattern as before. I hope the spell’s pattern always stays the same. It will make it much easier to remember. Matching the movements, the spell sped forward and hit the squirrel. It squeaked and rolled to its side.

You dealt 5 HP damage to Squirrel.

Squirrel died.

You gained 5 experience.

Arthur jogged to the animal and looked at the loot. It was the same hide and meat as the previous squirrel, so he selected both. They fell into his hands and then quickly dropped into his bag. He took one step before a message appeared that sent chills down his spine.

You defiled a sanctuary. Your life is forfeit!

Branches creaked and leaves rustled as Atlas quickly spun around and checked his surroundings. Sweat beaded along his forehead as the message sunk in and fear gripped him. A rustling noise caught his attention near the edge of the clearing, and he jumped at the sound out of fear. He crouched down and trembled at the thought of a grotesque monster appearing from the underbrush. With his knife in hand, he waited for the beast to arrive.

A grayish blur leaped from the underbrush, and the insignificant creature came to a halt. A look of fiery fury reflected in its eyes as it stared at Atlas. He felt foolish and almost laughed at the scenario. The oh-so-scary monster he feared was nothing more than a larger squirrel with gray fur. This one was the size of a husky house cat. An examination of it confused him. It has a name?Guardian Reil - Level 5.

You have entered combat!

Crap! Level 5 and a named creature? The oversized squirrel charged for him, so Atlas ran directly at it. He activated Double Slash. His blade flew forward, but no image appeared. The reason was quickly apparent as the animal jumped to the side and dove in for a bite on Atlas’ leg. It jumped up and latched claws into his side and then jumped once more and bit into his shoulder. The movements were so fast Atlas flailed like a wild man trying to counter to no avail.

Guardian Reil dodged your Double Slash.

Guardian Reil dealt 6 HP damage to you with Triple Threat.

Atlas panicked and tried to run from the clearing. No matter how quickly he ran, his feet seemed to run in place. A message popped up in his view.

You failed to Flee.

Failed? How do you fail at running away short of falling on your face and being eaten?

An intense pain interrupted his thoughts as the animal latched onto his leg. The guardian jumped and bit him two more
