in their pink and red uniforms were screaming as red energy bolts cut through the air around them. They sprinted past me, running for their lives.

Chasing them?

I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Emerging from a cloud of thick, boiling red smoke, a platoon of huge mutant gorillas wearing spacesuits and carrying all manner of futuristic bolt rifles came trotting down the corridor while firing.

BRAP!

BRAAP!

BRAAAP!

It wasn’t the first time I’d seen a space gorilla. That honor went to Space Gor back on the warship of Blorgo the Phallodome. Blorgo was everyone’s favorite giant purple telepathic mushroom and pirate commander. But I’d never seen this many space gorillas at once. One of them saw me and roared, his massive maw bristling with fangs dripping spittle. He aimed his bolt rifle at me and fired a controlled burst.

BRAAAAAP!

I dove back into the Bombshells’ recovery room and rolled. Next, I did the only thing I could think in the heat of battle: use the power of my rings to size me up to Mega Beast big. I instantly exploded to 3 meters tall, and bulged with muscles that ripped open my cloth uniform, leaving it hanging from me in tatters of purple, gold, and silver.

When a passing space gorilla pointed his bolt rifle inside the recovery room at me, I lunged forward and in one smooth motion, I slapped aside the gorilla’s rifle barrel with one big hand and punched him in the gut of his spacesuit with my other fist. His muscled stomach was cast-iron underneath his spacesuit, but my fist was like the hardened carbide bit of a jackhammer. His torso folded around my powerful punch and I lifted him entirely off his feet. Stunned and sagging, he dropped his rifle. I caught the rifle in the air and used both my hands to slam the metal butt into his gorilla face. Blood sprayed. He dropped like broken rocks, done.

A surge of fury blazed through my Mega Beast body.

I wanted to pause and beat my chest victoriously, but I saw the other space gorillas turning their rifles on me. I dove across the wide corridor amidst a hail of red bolts sizzling down the length of it. I landed rolling in the empty recovery room on the other side.

Bolt rifle in hand, I flipped it around and leaned briefly out the open hatchway to blast the gorillas with several bursts of my own.

BRAP! BRAAP! BRAAAAP!

PHOOM!

Behind me, an intense explosion was followed by the sudden rushing wind of decompression. Ahead, everyone and everything in the corridor went whooshing toward me in a hurricane gale of people and debris. Doctors, nurses, space gorillas, medical supplies, and big medical equipment carts went flying and tumbled dangerously through the air.

With decompression in progress, my first thought was getting back across the hexagonal corridor to the Bombshells’ room. I had to shut their hatch before their oxygen was gone or they went flying out with everyone else.

My second thought?

Decompression made zero sense.

Zero.

Because this outpost was on the surface of Zalaxia! The medical wing wasn’t pressurized! It couldn’t decompress! The two nurses who went flying by screaming in the corridor just now said otherwise. What the hell was going on?!

Holding on to a hexagonal window frame inside the room, I leaned my head out to look.

At the end of the corridor, what I remembered being a hexagonal nurse’s station had been torn away, revealing deep space, infinitely black and salted with stars.

“Whaaaaaat?!” I gawked.

No! We weren’t in space!

We were in the Zalaxian jungle!

This didn’t make any sense!

But my heart was hammering in my chest like it made perfect sense and I was in mortal danger. Before I could make another move—

BOOM!

Something hard hit me in the back of the head and sent me spinning down the corridor. Two seconds later, I was swept into space without a pressure suit.

“NOOOoooo—!” My voice fell suddenly silent as I entered the frigid prison of total vacuum.

Spiraling and somersaulting helplessly through the stabbing freeze that was already icing my skin into crystals, I twisted around to see the hexagonal corridor leading back into medical. The broken mouth of the corridor was shrinking quickly as it dwindled in the distance, only to be swallowed seconds later by an ocean of absolute blackness.

The stars were gone.

I was suffocating, weightless, and adrift in an infinite abyss.

And then, after an eternity of uncertainty, a disembodied angel’s voice whispered in my ear:

“My king?”

—: Chapter 7 :—

Bright light in the hexagonal corridor cut the darkness.

“My king?” asked a quiet female voice from the hexagonal hatchway.

Suddenly, I was back in medical and the Bombshells lay safely in their recovery beds.

Dreaming.

I had been dreaming.

The space gorilla attack and decompression after had been just a dream.

No, another stress nightmare. More PTSD from having fought off an actual space gorilla — Space Gor, of course. But that had been weeks ago, back in my own solar system somewhere between Mars and Jupiter.

I was on Zalaxia now.

Of that I had no doubt.

“My king? I heard you calling out,” said the quiet and angelic voice coming from the feminine silhouette standing in the hexagonal hatchway. “I wanted to make sure nothing was wrong.”

“All good,” I grunted sleepily. Blinking awake, I pushed myself up in the long recovery room chair. Sleep suddenly seemed like a terrible idea.

“I also wanted to formally introduce myself,” she said.

“Hey,” I said, still somewhat disoriented. “Come in.”

Boots clacked quietly across the floor as she stepped into a stray ray of light.

I looked up into the gorgeous green eyes of the most beautiful woman I had met since arriving on Zalaxia.

She had long, flowing dark-brown hair with sun-bleached highlights, and tan skin that made her green eyes glow like kryptonite. Her body was the perfect blend of pinup princess and bodacious babe. Tall, slender but athletic, full breasts, tiny waist, grabbable hips, thigh gap, and long, long legs. She wore the gold uniform of the Shock Knights. I had first seen them last night when I’d killed the previous Sekton Darkstar up
