Only seconds after Corporal Syx and I arrived and took everything in, she blurted, “Put me down! We need to go help them!”
Still levitating both of us above the ground with my POSITION vectors, I growled. “I’ll handle this.”
I was instantly furious, ready to go Mega Beast and tear Terrorsaur heads from Terrorsaur necks. Instead I did what came naturally, something that would work much faster than being furious.
I extracted MASS from the closest Terrorsaur.
Even at a range of 30 meters, it disappeared within a fraction of a second. I disappeared the next Terrorsaur and the next, one after the other until a dozen were gone. The rabidly flapping Terrorsaurs didn’t notice at first because each disappearance was effectively silent. Eventually, they noticed their quickly dwindling numbers.
KEEEEEEK! screeched one, then several more screeched the same plaintive cry.
First one Terrorsaur flapped away from the Cage Root trees, taking flight into the jungle. It was followed by another that kicked off a root cage and beat its wings, sending a cloud of blue-black feathers flying as it too bolted into the jungle brush. That sent them all in retreat.
“How did you…” Syx marveled beside me. “They’re gone.”
“Yup,” I nodded and vectored us both floating over to the Shock Knights and set us down on the red jungle dirt.
“My king!” Captain Theia gasped from inside one of the root cages. “You’re alive!”
“Better than alive,” I grinned.
She squeezed out through a hole in the wooden cage and ran to me. “I tried to find you, my king! But the Terrorsaurs herded us here! I couldn’t get past them without my armor! I tried! They were relentless! You have to understand! I did everything I could!” Several bloody gashes were visible across Theia’s naked stomach, arms, legs, one of her breasts. A savage bloody bite mark dripped from one of her legs. She’d clearly fought hard and paid a heavy price.
“You did great,” I said, opening my arms. “Bring it in.”
Theia hesitated. Her face was strained with fear and fighting spirit. She wasn’t sure what to do.
“You look like you need a hug,” I said warmly.
Theia nodded doubtfully.
I opened my arms wider.
Finally, she stepped into my embrace. I was careful with her wounds but she winced anyway. I whispered in her ear, “You deserve a medal for what you did. You all do.”
“I failed you, my king,” she whispered back. “I lost you during the attack. I failed!”
“No you didn’t,” I muttered. “You saved them.” I flicked my eyes toward the other Shock Knights.
“But I didn’t save you,” she pleaded.
“You didn’t? I thought you sniped the pirates who caught me. Or was that one of the other Shock Knights?”
“Sniped?”
“Shot them from hiding. Aren’t your rifles working?” It was the only sensible explanation I could think of.
“No,” Theia frowned. “If our rifles worked, I never would’ve left your side, my king, and those Terrorsaurs never would’ve gotten the better of me and my girls.” She meant the other Shock Knights.
I frowned, “That’s weird. Then who shot the pirates who captured me?” I glanced back at Syx.
She shrugged.
“It doesn’t matter,” I said and turned to the other Shock Knights. “Is everyone okay? Did everyone make it safely here? Are there fifty of you?”
Theia quickly did a roll call and everyone was present.
“Good,” I said. “Air Guard and a rescue ship are already on their way. Is anyone’s ring working yet? Can any of you deploy your power armor or fire your bolt rifles? Anyone at all?”
A quick check said they couldn’t.
“Then you all better stay here while I go look for the remaining pirates and their secret weapon.”
I remembered the initial count of pirates manning their ring-breaking weapon had been nine. Assuming there were no more than that, and with the five who’d captured me now dead, that left four.
With both my rings functioning, I could easily handle four pirates on my own.

Crackfang the Terrorsaur fled for his life.
Beating his wings furiously, he raced flying through the dark jungle, banking around trees and spurring on the remaining members of his frightened family. They flapped frantically back toward their nestcave, confused and unsure what had happened to their brothers and sisters.
Gone.
Faster than a talon slash, many brothers and sisters were no more.
The stench of desperate fear reeking from Crackfang and his surviving brothers and sisters was repugnant and overpowering. It almost swallowed Crackfang’s confidence whole into its dark gullet.
Only his rage kept him from succumbing.
That stinking hume-ant male had killed more of Crackfang’s family!
“KEEEEEEEK!” Crackfang screeched in pained frustration.
He didn’t understand how, but he had smelled it happen. His family gone! Eaten from the air by that dirty hume-ant!
Eaten!
“KEEEEEEEK!”
More than ever, Crackfang wanted war.
War!
There must be war!
An all-tribes war against the hume-ants!
War!
War to kill the hume-ant male!
War to kill every hume-ant female!
War, war, WAR!
“GU-GU-GU-GOOOOOOK!”
—: Chapter 112 :—
“I’ll go with you, my king,” said Captain Theia.
“You’re injured,” I said. “I’ve got my rings. Everyone will be safer if I go by myself. If those pirates—”
“Please, my king. Let me protect you. It’s my duty. I swore an oath.”
“You can forget your oath,” I smiled.
She frowned.
“At least for tonight,” I suggested.
She shook her head. “If those pirates use that device again, you’ll be…” Her words trailed off into silence.
“What, helpless?”
Theia lowered her eyes. “Please let me protect you.”
I placed my hands on her shoulders.
She looked into my eyes.
“You already did,” I smiled. “Several times. Now it’s my turn to protect you.”
Her kryptonite green eyes searched mine, showing a vulnerability I’d never seen in them before. The blood smear on one of her cheeks made her seem even more vulnerable.
I gently wiped away the smear with my thumb and said, “I need you to protect them.” I nodded toward the Shock Knights. “What if more Terrorsaurs come along? Or worse?”
Theia struggled with the
