I wasn’t trying to be poetic. The sound of this dragon’s voice literally iced my veins with heart-stopping terror. I could barely concentrate, couldn’t think to plan my next move. Cthulhu himself wouldn’t stand a chance against this magnificent monstrosity.
Suddenly, the dragon lunged at me.
I shot sideways using another POSITION vector that curved me through a long loop.
The dragon coiled in the air, slammed its wings powerfully downward, and snaked toward me, arriving at my destination before I got there, its giant jaws agape. I had to angle sideways again, but the dragon’s long neck corkscrewed like a lightning sidewinder and cut me off in midair. I blasted upward to avoid the dragon’s jaws chomping closed where I’d been a split second ago.
CLOOM!
The overwhelming volume of the dragon’s chomp was explosively loud and created a shockwave of wind blasting past me, but it was nothing compared to when the dragon’s wings snapped forward and sent a buffeting wall of air hammering into me and blowing me tumbling off course.
I vectored myself around in tight spirals, trying to escape its chasing jaws, but the dragon was always there waiting to bite me out of the night sky. My only option now was pure speed. I vectored myself backward, blazing above the blurry jungle in desperate retreat. There was no way flapping wings could push air quickly enough to catch up, giving me a precious moment to consider my next—
ZOOSH!
The dragon cannoned forward in a shadowy streak that caught up to me instantly. It hadn’t even flapped its wings. In fact, they were tucked around it until the last moment when they exploded open. The surprise caught me off guard and I barely saw one of its gigantic paws slash the air with talons big enough to slice my triple-Mega Beast body in half. To give a sense of scale, even at my size of 9 or 10 meters tall, this dragon was so big, I still felt like I did whenever I stood in front of a T-Rex skeleton at a museum. Tiny.
“YOU NEVER SHOULD HAVE COME HERE!” the dragon roared. “YOU MAY BE KING OF ZALAXIA, BUT YOU WILL NOT LIVE TO SEE THE SUN RISE OVER YOUR ROYAL KINGDOM EVER AGAIN!” Talons flashed and the dragon slashed again, this time catching my Mega shoulder even though I had vectored backward.
This dragon wanted me dead.
“I’m only the acting king!” I shouted as I went spinning away after impact. Had I not been Mega Beast big, the blow probably would have killed me instantly.
“THEN YOU WILL NEVER BE CROWNED KING! FOR ON THIS DAY YOU DIE!” The dragon lunged toward me, giant jaws agape.
I dodged, expecting the dragon to try for another building-breaking chomp.
Instead, his head followed my flight path, a sudden glow erupted from his throat and—
KROOOM!
A bright white blast of plasma geysered from his jaws, crackling murderously loud, louder than the first-stage launch rockets on a Falcon Heavy.
If not for my ring’s Light Cycle-fast course correction capabilities, I would’ve been instantly incinerated. As it was, I barely cleared the rumbling blast-column of deadly plasma energy. The heat of it was enough to melt metal. Even at 40 or 50 meters away, it was blazing hot. I activated my Sphere of Absorption to consume the heat energy. Not a moment too soon. The boiling air around me instantly cooled.
I zipped upward, intent on escape.
My rings may have been powerful, but this dragon had swallowed a super nova and was spitting it back at me.
It pounded its wings downward once. Again it caught up to me almost instantly, flying impossibly fast. With a roar, he or she reared back, readying to blast me with more plasma breath.
The last thing I wanted to do was kill the only dragon I’d ever had the good fortune to see, but it wanted to douse me with enough bad fortune to destroy an asteroid.
Sadly it was either him or me.
Knowing the dragon was within range, I started a MASS extraction at maximum power. Maybe I could shrink this dragon down to pet size and give him or her to Cygna so Hoppy the Gorlak could have a cute pet dragon friend.
The glow in the dragon’s throat dimmed and it roared laughter. “YOU’RE MISTAKEN IF YOU THINK YOUR RINGS CAN HARM ME!”
I couldn’t decide if the dragon wasn’t shrinking because he was out of range — despite my best guess — or not shrinking at all. If it was the latter, if this beast was resistant to my rings, I didn’t stand a chance. My only option was escape.
The dragon surged toward me, jaws wide and ready to bite.
I zipped away using another POSITION vector, a really big one, blasting away faster than a bullet from a bolt rifle.
CLOOM!
It bit down, but I was long gone — until it zipped lightning-fast after me, again not using its wings to flap, but instead folding them around its body to make it more aerodynamic. Within two seconds, it had matched my speed.
The dark purple jungle blurred by all around us.
I was starting to think this big beast had the same POSITION vector powers I did.
“I CAN FIGHT ALL NIGHT, MORTAL! TOO BAD YOU CAN’T! WHETHER IT’S THIS DAY OR THE NEXT, YOUR POWER WILL FADE AND YOUR LIFE WITH IT!” Sounded like this dragon knew as much or more about my rings as I did.
“What do you want from me?!” I shouted.
“NOTHING SHORT OF YOUR DEATH!” The dragon swiped at me with its awesome paw.
The sound of it ripping the air open put hurricanes to shame.
I was going to die out here.
—: Chapter 117 :—
Remember I said my final assassin tonight would be the strangest and craziest assassin I could imagine?
I never thought it would be a damn dragon.
If I died out here tonight because my curiosity for ancient ruins had gotten the best
