Forest Guardians and Rider of the Light

1

A Peace Treaty

It sounded like gibberish, like some foreign language, when the Hairy Man of the Forest was talking to others in his tribe. The clearing they stood in was bright and had a light shining through from above. The tribe moved to the tree line in the forest and the light grew brighter in the clearing. The smallest of the Hairy Tribe could be heard speaking gibberish as he was pointing upward.

The tribe watched as Forest Princess Celia descended through a light portal on a beam of light. As she reached the ground, the Hairy Tribe of the Forest ran to her. The largest Hairy Man, who was also their leader, was named Cleg. Cleg embraced Princess Celia and began to tell her about their problem. He told her about the strange, small men with quills on their backs roaming the forest with arrows. He went on to explain that the men were hunting so many of the forest animals that he was afraid he and his family would be next.

Princess Celia knew who these men were. They were from the Tribe of Pukwudgie. They were a hunting tribe that used long arrows to hunt and pillage the forest and plains of Northeast Ohio’s deer and rabbits. The Pukwudgie were very clever in their ability to hide and attack. Finding them would prove challenging for Princess Celia. But she was determined to help the Hairy Man Tribe.

She knew that she had to talk with the Pukwudgie. There had to be peace between the Hairy Tribe of the Forest and the Pukwudgie. Princess Celia just was unsure how this would happen. The biggest issue after she found them would be to sit and talk to them about a peace treaty between them and the Hairy Tribe of the Forest.

Princess Celia reached out to embrace each member of the tribe. As she touched each one, she spoke to them about protection and working on building a truce between the tribes. She told them she would seek out the tribe of small men with quills on their backs so that they and the Hairy Tribe of the Forest could dwell in the forest peacefully.

Princess Celia and Cleg would sit down that night and plan for a treaty that would benefit his people as well as the Pukwudgie. Cleg expressed his fear of humans and the Pukwudgie. Both had a desire to capture or hurt the people of the Hairy Tribe of the Forest, and that worried him. Princess Celia tried to assure Cleg that they would find a solution to keep everyone safe.

Cleg suggested that the Pukwudgie could hunt the forest from June through September and only hunt enough to feed their tribe. He also suggested that his tribe teach the Pukwudgie Tribe to forage for wild vegetables and fruits. The PawPaw fruit had much abundance in Northeast Ohio and made a wonderful supplement to the Pukwudgie diet. There would be plenty of PawPaw for both tribes. In addition, Cleg told the princess that they had been watching the humans and learned how to cultivate and grow corn. Princess Celia told him that was great and suggested that perhaps he could teach the Pukwudgie to grow corn, as well.

Cleg and Princess Celia detailed out the entire treaty between the two tribes. Now, it would be up to Princess Celia to find the Pukwudgie Tribe and forge a treaty.

The Kidnapping

Bitty, the Hairy Child of Cleg, heard a noise close to the Cuyahoga riverbank. Bitty approached the river with glee thinking it was her friend, Tiny the Turtle. But as she approached the steep bank of the Cuyahoga River, something pulled her leg hard and she fell down the bank of the river. When she hit the ground, Bitty found herself circled by the Pukwudgie Tribe. She was so frightened! The leader, who went by the name of Zonga, stepped forward and told Bitty to be quiet and not utter a sound. Bitty was so frightened that she started to cry, but she didn’t say a word. Zonga took her by the hand and said, “Let us go. And remember to not make a sound.”

There were many rocks along the riverbank. Bitty thought about picking one up and throwing it into the water to make a splash for her tribe to hear. She was just too afraid to try. Bitty glanced at a large tree branch that had fallen into the water. There, she spotted Tiny the Turtle. Tiny looked alarmed as the Pukwudgie marched Bitty down the riverbed and into the dark forest. Bitty prayed that her friend Tiny would be able to tell her tribe what happened and that she would be saved. Bitty knew that the tribe would be searching for her now. She had been gone far too long for the tribe to not know something was wrong.

Tiny swam to the bank of the river and was trying to think of a way to make lots of noise on the riverbank. If he could
