Well, that shut Adan up.
Daniel sets up on the kitchen table and then gets to work cleaning the burn and redressing it. Then he gives us a good dose of antibiotics that Adan has to take multiple times a day. Once he’s done, I walk Daniel out to the front door, and I can feel Adan’s eyes on us, but I don’t give him the satisfaction of turning around.
“You did a great thing calling me as early as you did, your work will be recognized. If you see any changes, any at all, or even the slightest bit of redness appear, you call me and we’ll have to get him to a hospital. I’m confident you’ve caught it in time. Excellent work.”
Not going to lie, that feels great.
It makes my chest expand and my pride swell.
It’s nice to know you’re appreciated and you’re doing a good job, especially when it’s your first job.
“Thank you.” I smile.
“I’d love to take you out again? What are your thoughts?”
“I’d love to,” I say, because quite frankly, watching him growl at Adan showed me that maybe there is a side to Dr. Daniel I haven’t seen. “When?”
“Tomorrow?”
“Sounds wonderful.”
He leans down and brushes his lips across mine, completely surprising me. It’s such a confident and bold move, especially because he has to know Adan is watching. Maybe that’s why he’s doing it? Either way, wow. It surprises me, and it’s actually a really nice kiss, far different to the other ones he’s given me.
My heart does actually do a little jump.
“Bye,” he says, grinning at me as he turns and walks off.
I watch him go.
Well hot damn, who is that confident man?
“OHH GIRL, YOU’RE REALLY doing it, aren’t you?” Eve asks, eyes wide as she looks at my bag of goodies.
“Oh, I’m doing it alright. I need to win this battle.”
“Because of your pride or because you actually like him?”
I scoff. “I don’t like Adan, but he has insulted me and made sure I know I do nothing for him. That shit drives me crazy, and so I’m going to prove that he’s wrong.”
“I mean, I’m all for it.” Even chuckles. “I love a good challenge, as you know.”
I raise my brows. “You think?”
She laughs.
“I think you should mix Doris’ advice in there, too. Really make him tick. Go out with Daniel, hell bring him back to the house and scream the place down. Give him a dose of his own medicine and then act like it doesn’t bother you at all that he knows. Send that man over the edge, honey.”
“Oh, I very much plan on it. When he gets home this afternoon he’s going to find me dressed in a sexy nurse outfit, sucking a lollipop and acting all coy as I bathe him. It’ll be something else.”
Eve nods. “Well, if this doesn’t work, I don’t know what will.”
“Me either, but one way or another, that man will get a hard-on.”
“Good luck with it, I expect full reports.” Eve winks.
“One hundred percent you’ll be getting them. Now, tell me when your next mic night is, because a girl needs a break.”
“Tomorrow night, actually. We’ve had a few breaks because I lost two staff this week, but I’m hoping we’re back on track now. I hired a new girl, she’s really good but she’s something else, that’s for sure.”
“Ohh, do share,” I say, leaning forward.
“I’m not quite sure what it is, but there’s just something about her. She’s odd. Not in a bad way, but just in a quiet, keep to herself kind of way. She can sing too, man, I’ve heard her singing as she cleans the tables and have tried to convince her to sing at the mic nights but she said she doesn’t want to. Crazy, if you ask me. Still, I’m certain I’ll change her mind. She’s in tomorrow, you’ll be able to meet her.”
“Sounds interesting. What’s her name?”
“Lorelei.”
“Ohh love it.”
Eve gets back to work and I finish up my coffee, grab my bag of goodies, and head back to Adan’s house. The antibiotics have knocked him for six, and he’s been sleeping a lot, but his infection is improving so that’s something. I’ve seen Daniel since, and we actually had a great lunch together. Maybe there’s hope there, after all.
If only my damned body would stop reacting every single time Adan walks in the room. It kills me when he’s around.
It doesn’t help that I’m actively trying to turn him on.
My pride is far too big for my britches, that’s for sure.
Still, a girl has to do what a girl has to do.
I get home and he’s asleep, which is perfect for me. I change into my sexy nurse outfit, revealing my butt cheeks and breasts in a way that should probably be illegal, and then I saunter around, cleaning the house.
I’m mid-way through wiggling my booty as I dance and dust, when I hear Adan’s gruff voice behind me. “What the actual fuck?”
I spin around, letting out a little squeak because I didn’t hear him come in.
Then, I let a slow grin spread across my face.
“What is it?” I ask, innocently batting my eyelashes.
“What are you wearing?”
“I’m a nurse, am I not?”
“Nurses don’t wear that.”
I shrug. “Here they do, do you need anything?”
I walk over to him, breasts bulging, and lean in close with a grin.
“What are you doing?”
“Seeing if you need anything.” I smile.
“I don’t.”
“Should we check your dressing.”
“Not until you change clothes.”
“These are my clothes now, why, isn’t it bothering you? A little twitch in the knickers perhaps?”
He grunts. “You’re somethin’ else.”
“Indeed I am. Can I get you a beer?”
“After you’ve changed.”
“If it doesn’t bother you, I don’t need to change.”
“It bothers me.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s distracting.”
“Distracting how?”
“Be quiet and get fuckin’ changed.”
“I can’t do that.”
“You can.”
“I can’t.”
“Fuck,” he growls, walking into the kitchen.
I get back to my dusting, and dancing, and singing, and twirling around. I notice Adan looking at me, and the way his eyes are hooded, tells me I have more effect on
