You have learned the Leatherworking ability: Create Basic Leather Boots.

You have received Leatherworker’s Tool Bag.

Sweet. Finally, some skills I can use.

Atlas turned to regard the trainer as he rummaged behind the counter.

“How do I learn to make additional items with Leatherworking, Master Ramma?”

The fuzzy head popped back above the counter as he responded, “Just return after you’ve leveled up. You unlock new patterns as you gain skill levels. You’ll breeze through the first few levels pretty quick once you find hides. The new patterns are relatively cheap to learn. You can also purchase Salt from me, which you’ll need to use the Cure Light Hide Ability. You should have the small knife and the needle you need for the other patterns in your Tool Bag.”

Atlas selected the Cure Light Hide Ability and examined the box that popped up.

Leatherworking - Cure Light Hide

Requirements

•     Leatherworking Level 1

Rarity: Common

Requirements: 1 pinch of Salt

Description: Turn smaller animal hides into a Cured Light Hide. Cured Light Hides are used for entry level Leatherworking patterns.

His mind turned over the options, and he dug through his regular bag. His bag held twelve hides from the squirrels and the bobcat, all rolled up tight.

“Master Ramma, can I see your inventory again?” Atlas asked.

This time the elf didn’t even bother lifting his head from where he searched. Instead, Atlas just watched as a hand rose above the counter and dismissively flicked toward him. Atlas smirked as the menu popped back up. He looked through the list and spotted Salt. It cost 2 copper per pinch. He quickly pressed the tiny arrow next to quantity and selected twelve. When he pressed the Purchase button, a small bag fell onto the counter nearby and he dropped it into his larger bag.

Unsure of what to do, Atlas looked at his skill screen and selected the Cure Light Hide skill. He clicked on the Craft button on the bottom right of the menu, but a message popped up.

Insufficient Materials. Please select and hold the materials you wish to use.

Atlas reached in and grabbed a squirrel hide and the bag of salt. He held one in each hand and selected craft again. His eyes bulged as his hands and body moved on their own at incredible speed. Sinking to a knee, he rolled the skin out flat on the ground and sprinkled salt across the raw side. His hands rapidly rubbed in the salt before he fished out the small knife in his bag. The blade swept across the skin in swift strokes and layers of the fat on the back of the hide peeled away. With the hide freshly cleaned, he sprinkled more salt on the skin and rolled it tightly one more time. The tools and salt dropped back into his bag before he took the hide in both hands and twisted it as if wringing out a towel. A low ding sounded in his head.

You created Cured Light Hide.

You received 25xp in Leatherworking.

Atlas looked at the piece in amazement and took the rolled up hide in one hand. He snapped his wrist and the piece unrolled to show a smooth skin. The entire process took roughly thirty seconds with the speed his body completed the task. Smiling at the leather, he checked his patterns. He noticed the gloves took two hides to make, and the boots needed three. They also each required 2 Sinew Threads. Checking the Sinew Threads pattern, it used 1 Cured Light Hide and made 14 strands of Sinew Thread.

He held his newly cured hide in hand and selected his Create Leather Sinew Thread ability. Selecting the Craft button, his body exploded into motion again. This time he spread the hide on the floor with the hair side up and his knife popped back into his hand. The knife carefully slid across the surface and delicately removed the hair while leaving the underlying cured skin intact.

With the hair removed, he sliced the remaining hide into long thin strips. When finished, he had fourteen neat strands of leather that looked like thick strips of thread.

You created Leather Sinew Thread x 14.

You received 30xp in Leatherworking.

Atlas spent some time curing the other eleven hides he had. When it was complete, he was happy with his notifications.

You received 275xp in Leatherworking.

Success! You’ve reached levels 2 and 3 in Leatherworking.

Pleased with some tangible progress, he held up two of the hides and two of the threads. He brought up his Create Basic Leather Gloves ability and hit Craft. His body went into overdrive as it slung out the hides and began cutting them into pieces resembling a glove. When four pieces were complete, he paired them together and fished a punch out of his tool bag. The punch neatly cut holes into the leather. With the holes complete, he began weaving the thread through the openings around the borders. He finished them by turning them right side out and running a nice trim line near the wrist. An item description box popped up.

You created Basic Leather Gloves.

You received 45xp in Leatherworking.

Item - Basic Leather Gloves

Weight: 0.8 lb.

Slot: Hands

Traits: A set of gloves made from low-quality leather. Provides minimal protection for the hands.

Not that great, but better than nothing. At least I’ll have a little protection on my hands. Atlas slipped them on and found that they fit perfectly. They were nice and snug while smelling of fresh leather. He repeated the same process for the boots, and the crafting action was similar. Two chunks of leather made the sole, while one layer created the sides of the boot. The pattern took longer to punch and sew up, but he was happy with what he had.

He’d entered the game with a pair of boots on, but looking at the stats on them just showed a
