while the other pressed against that throbbing, desperate spot, and he broke away from the kiss, holding my gaze in his. With a single finger, he pushed through my resistance, finding the spot inside me that had craved his touch since the beginning. The more.

And I exploded with a scream. A flood of pure bliss raced through me, and as he withdrew his finger, I saw that his eyes were a soft blue again.

His arms wrapped around me, and he held me tight to his chest as the waves of pleasure slowly calmed inside me. Something had changed inside me at that moment, but I didn’t know what it was.

My body was naked from the waist up, and I should have been ashamed as the mists cleared, but I wasn’t. The steady rise and fall of Sebastian’s chest began to lull me to sleep as I snuggled tighter to him, pressing my head into his shoulder. At that moment, I wanted nothing more than to feel him.

Chapter 11

Rose

I woke slowly. I’d had no dreams other than that very inappropriate and strange one with Sebastian. My body ached, and yet it felt so much more alive than it had yesterday.

As I opened my eyes, I realized that I was curled up on Sebastian’s shoulder, and I jerked away from him. He was already awake, and he gave me a half-grin. “Strange dreams, Tinkerbell?” he asked.

“Tinkerbell? You can’t steal a nickname. It’s against the rules of nicknames.” I yawned and sat up. It took me a second before I saw that Sebastian’s gaze had drifted lower than my face, and I realized that I was topless. Quickly covering myself with the blanket, I felt my cheeks warm intensely.

“What did you do?” I exclaimed. “Did you… did that dream really happen? Did you put… your finger…?”

Sebastian laughed and got out of bed wearing only those leather pants that showed off the pieces of him I hadn’t experienced in the dream. God, after that dream, I had so many thoughts about what he could do with that body, and a part of me wanted to see what lay under that leather. “No, Tinkerbell, I certainly didn’t put my finger anywhere. It was a dream. That’s all.”

“Then why am I freaking topless?” I asked, verging on shouting.

“Had to take off your shirt if I was going to let your wings out. Seeing your tits was just a bonus.” I snarled at him, but something pulled at the edges of my mind. I reached behind me with one hand while pulling the blanket tighter against my breasts with the other. I felt something stuck in a line down the middle of my back. It came off easily enough in little broken pieces.

I looked down at the almost black flakes and realized what had happened. Everything last night was so cloudy. Pieces were missing. I remembered drinking and hurting. The only thing I really remembered clearly was that dream that was so real.

This piece of red turned black reminded me of what had happened. Sebastian had taken me to a dreamscape while he’d cut my wings out of me.

My wings.

“Do I have wings? Is that why you’re calling me Tinkerbell?” My voice was barely a whisper. Sebastian turned from where he was pouring water into cups and grinned at me.

“Want to see them?” he asked, not sassy in the least. “They’re beautiful.”

I nodded, and he said, “Then you’re going to have to get out of bed. Mirrors are quite a bit less common here than in your world, and I’m not going to rip this one out of the wall.”

I glanced at Sebastian who was holding two cups of water in his hands, and I sighed. He may have played with my body in a dream, but that didn’t mean that I wanted to be naked around him.

I wrapped the sheet around me like a towel, covering myself and dragging the sheet across the ground. I had to take little shuffling steps so that I didn’t step on the sheet and fall over, embarrassing myself further, but I slowly followed Sebastian to a little corner next to the stove. It was a full-length cabinet with a lock on the door. Not big enough to stand in, I understood the purpose.

I’d walked through a mirror before. I knew that they were gateways. No one would be able to sneak into his house through the mirror in such a small space. At the same time, he could step through it when the doors were open. His own fancy little portal maker that he could lock up tight.

He stepped back and let me get in front of the mirror. I gasped as I looked at myself. Everything about me looked rough. Wild hair that still had bits of gravel from the sinkhole. There were smudges of ash on my cheeks. Everything about me made me look like some homeless girl.

Except the shiny black wings rising from the center of my back.

They looked to be made of shadows that seemed to repel the light flickering from the oil lamp that was still burning.

They were darker than shadows, yet they shined like obsidian with a black fire inside them. Rising almost a foot above me, they made me seem taller. An unfelt wind seemed to make them ripple, making their dark light flicker against Sebastian who stood behind me.

They were nothing like the fairy wings on postcards. Thin veins of what I could only assume were magic ran through them and seemed to pulse with my heartbeat. Living wings made of pure magic.

Reaching a tentative hand out, I touched the edge. I felt it then, the power that Sebastian had talked about. There was no shock of electricity. This was a different kind of power. Deep and slow, it seemed to pulse.

When I pressed on the wing, there was a bit of resistance, and then my fingers slipped through it. I frowned, and Sebastian said,
