“Exactly, why wouldn’t I? He asked, and I’m not going to say no to a man that looks like that.”
Eve nods enthusiastically. “This will drive Adan crazy, that’s for certain.”
“I have no doubt it will, but I don’t care what Adan thinks anymore. I’m doing this because I want to.”
“That’s our girl,” Dom says, grinning.
“Don’t encourage her, Dom. She’ll end up pregnant to a biker,” Eve scoffs, and then grins at me.
“There are worse things in this world,” I laugh.
“You’re right about that,” Dom agrees.
“Ladies, it has been too long.”
We turn to see Doris walking in followed by two of her friends. She’s a never ending door for friends, old Doris. She’s got a different one each week. She walks in, dressed well as always, looking like she belongs on the set of Downton Abbey and not in Wildflowers. She always holds herself so well, she’s always dressed nicely and walks with an air about her.
“Doris, it’s good to see you,” I say, standing up to give her a hug.
She’s practically our grandmother now.
She takes a seat and the other ladies go to order, it’s as if she’s the damned queen.
“Tell me,” she says, leaning forward. “How are things going with that delicious biker?”
I laugh. “They’re not, he’s a hard one to crack.”
“So she’s going out with another one tonight.” Dom wiggles his brows. “Girl is playing the field.”
“That’ll guarantee to get him going.” Doris nods. “I always say, men want what they can’t have.”
“As if she’d say no if he came and threw her down on the bed.” Eve winks.
“He doesn’t know that, though. Does he?” Doris points out. “Besides, there is nothing wrong with playing the field, tasting some other cuisine.”
I snort. “Well, I never said I was going to taste him, but if he asks ...”
“You’ll taste him,” they all say at once.
“Maybe a little lick.”
Doris beams. “I’m teaching you both well. Tell me, Eve, how is Cash?”
“He’s good, Doris. We’re good.”
“I hope you’re not giving him too much attention. Women that give too much, lose in the end. Always play hard to get, dear.”
Eve laughs. “Always, Doris.”
“And what about you, young man?” Doris asks Dom. “I hope you’re treating your girlfriend right.”
“Yes, ma’am. She’s treated like a queen.”
“Not too much though.” She wiggles a finger. “You mustn’t spoil her. Just enough to keep her happy, but not enough to make her a princess.”
Dom laughs. “Got it.”
I stand after a few more minutes. “I have to get going, Remy is coming by in an hour, and I haven’t gotten ready yet.”
“You make him work for it,” Doris calls as I walk out the door.
“I will, Doris.”
I go home and get ready, and Remy arrives half an hour later. Adan comes down just as I’m walking out the front door, dressed and ready for his evening out. When our eyes meet, my heart does it’s stupid little dance again, but I squash it down. I don’t need to encourage it. Adan has made it clear, and I have to accept that, but still, seeing him standing there makes that hard.
“Brother,” Remy nods when Adan reaches the door.
Adan nods back, his eyes still on mine.
God damn.
He’s killing me.
“Are you ready?” I ask Remy.
“Been ready all day.”
He takes my hand and we walk off. I glance back over my shoulder and see Adan watching us.
God dammit.
Why do I care?
I shouldn’t.
I don’t.
No.
I don’t.
Right?
REMY AND I GO OUT, and we have a great time.
We laugh, we drink, and we dance. I won’t lie, a few kisses are passed between us on the dancefloor and his hands roam over my body, making me feel sexier than I’ve felt in quite some time. His mouth is hot, his hands are hotter. I’m wound up by the time the night ends, and it’s tempting to go and throw myself into his bed, but as if he can see that we’re about to go back to Remy’s place, Adan calls.
He tells me his hand is sore and he wants me to come and look at it.
I’m his nurse.
I have no choice but to go and look at it.
If I don’t, then I could lose everything.
The frustration inside me is out of this world, but I tell Remy I have to go.
“Fuckin’ Adan, the man won’t claim you but he’s goin’ to make sure none of us can, either,” he murmurs, catching me around the waist and pulling me in for another long, deep kiss.
I pull back, breathless. “Lucky for you I’m my own woman, and I’ll do what I want.”
Remy grins. “Had a fuckin’ blast. Takin’ you out again on the weekend.”
He doesn’t ask.
He tells.
I like that.
“Deal.”
He kisses me again and then puts me in a cab and sends me home.
I arrive back to Adan’s house a few minutes later and go inside to find him watching television with Lorelei. The two of them are on the couch, and she’s got her head on his lap, sleeping. I stop when I reach the sofa and he looks up at me. He’s shirtless, and I’m wondering if the two of them had a good night.
Though, it doesn’t look like they did because she’s fully clothed.
“Your hand is sore?” I ask, staring down at Lorelei who is clearly out to it.
“Feels better, she got me some painkillers.”
Oh, you shit.
You shit of a man.
I don’t let him see he pissed me off. Instead, I sit on the sofa across from him and cross my legs, staring.
“You had a good night then?” he asks me.
“I did until you interrupted it for no reason.”
“My hand was sore.”
“I doubt that.”
“Think what you want,” he mutters.
“Oh, I will. You left me hanging, once again. I’m sure you’re doing it on purpose.”
“Don’t play fuckin’ games.”
“You know what, Adan? I do.”
I spread my legs and his eyes widen. I’m wearing a dress, and I let my knees fall apart, revealing my lacy panties. He can’t call out without risking waking Lorelei, and I’m done playing his little game. I’m going
