Really, she didn’t want to be in a super serious relationship, but she couldn’t even have a little bit of the man she wanted.

However, at the same time, she felt like she was betraying him by being on this date.

But it was just a date.

“It’s no big deal,” she whispered to herself. “Just a movie. And then I’ll go home and watch something with Sam.”

But she still wasn’t sure.

After a few more minutes of thought, she considered that she really did want to see the movie they were planning to get tickets for. And she hadn’t been out to see a movie in theaters in four years. If she did nothing else, she should at least do that much. Part of the reason for this date was to force herself to get out of the house.

And while she could just go see the movie on her own, it would be nice to go with someone.

Unexpectedly, her phone vibrated with a message from her date. He didn’t actually have her phone number though, instead all communications occurring through the app itself.

“Hey, if you want to try some other time, it’s fine.”

Polite. He was really polite.

And handsome.

She quickly typed back. “Nah, we can go. Just making sure it was the movie I wanted to see.” She then glanced at him in his vehicle, watching him read her message and then look over at her with a warm smile.

And that’s when it hit her.

She’d picked a guy that kind of looked like Sam.

April 13, 2735 – Current Day – Early Evening

Once I was out of the shower, I noted that everyone was upstairs, minus Heidi, and got back to fixing dinner. We’d spent almost an hour in my car’s backseat, but it didn’t appear anyone had tried searching for us or anything. Granted, I supposed Lily would know that if we were missing, it was probably for a good reason, assuming Freya didn’t already warn her in advance.

The oven had been preheated for a while now, so I popped in the raw chicken to cook, and began working on chopping up the rest of the veggies, as well as making some additions to the chili sauce, knowing exactly what Heidi liked.

Heidi…

Heidi glanced up at the hot guy while they stood in line to get popcorn, admiring his handsome face, dark hair, and blue eyes, all while a whirlwind of complicated emotions swirled around inside of her. She hadn’t realized it when she first started talking to the guy just a few days ago, but now that she was really looking at him, she was confident he really did look like Sam. And even more, he was respectful like Sam. Really respectful, and sweet.

And hot.

Which actually just made her depressed. She was on a date with a Sam stand-in when really she’d just rather be on a date with Sam.

The guy, Liam, was scanning the menu above the counter, as if there were a ton more options than just popcorn and soda. Of course, there were plenty of other options, but who seriously went for that extra stuff? Movies needed popcorn, not chocolate, candy, or nachos.

Liam looked down at her then, giving her a grin that forced a smile on her face.

Damn, he was handsome.

“Sure you don’t want me to get it for you?” he wondered.

“Nah,” she replied with a grin. “I like paying for my own stuff.”

Blinking a couple of times, realizing I’d spaced out a little even while my hands were still at work, I checked on the chicken and then ran upstairs, since the timer still had a bit to finish up. Now that Freya had helped me out earlier, I felt a lot more level-headed and relaxed, including with the situation regarding Heidi.

I mean, I still didn’t like it, but now I was looking forward to us hanging out later when she got back. Like, I was totally going to sit right next to her, whether Lily or Freya decided to join on my other side or not. And of course, I definitely didn’t like the idea of Heidi doing anything at all with another guy, but for some reason I just didn’t feel too overly concerned at the moment.

Plus, hanging out with everyone upstairs was a nice distraction too. Eden was only a week old, yet she was already looking like she was almost two or three months old, grabbing everything in sight with her tiny little hands, especially people’s hair. It was really cute watching Rose play with her, all of us enjoying watching them interact.

I finally made my way downstairs when the chicken was done, beginning to chop it up so I could finish cooking everything together. As might be expected, given the dish I was making, the task caused my thoughts to wander to Heidi again…

Heidi popped a few pieces of popcorn in her mouth, letting her mouth water from the salt as she chewed on them slowly while she stared at the screen. This had been a movie she wanted to see, yet she was finding it difficult to focus on the beginning of it. Her date was being considerate by keeping the hand closest to her free, not being too obvious that he wanted to hold her hand, but every time she glanced at it, she immediately wished it was Sam’s hand instead.

Dammit.

This date was supposed to help her stop focusing on him so much, but because of her subconscious choice in picking out a guy who looked like Sam, now all she could think about was Sam, Sam, Sam.

Dammit.

Heidi wanted to see this movie…but she was starting to want to just go home and watch something with Sam instead. Plus, he told her he’d watch anything she wanted, prompting her mischievous side to want to leave right now and put that promise to the test.

Granted, she knew she could do that – just leave. There was no reason why she had to stay here now that she’d purchased a ticket. She could
