over a little, and she licked her lip. “Yes.”

I had to kiss her, and I brought my mouth down on hers, hungry for a taste. It was hard and deep, and again, she let me, kissing me back, giving me the same intensity I was giving to her. Her sweet tongue slid against mine, and it took everything I had to rein it back. To stop from taking it further.

When I finally lifted my head, I swiped my thumb over her lower lip. “You and I, we play by our own rules, Trixie, no one else’s.”

Her gaze stayed locked on mine. “I always have, Mason, and I don’t plan to stop now.”

“I shouldn’t have come here, but I was worried that something was wrong, that I’d upset or hurt you. Now we’ve talked, I know, and I won’t put you in this position again.” I kissed her once more, just a quick touch of lips, because I couldn’t help myself. “I wanted you so bad this morning.”

She shivered against me. “I wanted you as well.”

“You could’ve had me.”

She grinned. “Stop rubbing it in.”

“Could have had that as well.”

She laughed, and when she sobered, her gaze searched mine. “You were really worried?”

“Yes.”

“Sorry,” she said, voice soft.

“I overreacted.”

“I’m still sorry.”

“Me too.” I ran my hand up her spine and back down. “What time do you finish tonight?”

“Seven.”

Voices came from the front of the shop, and I forced myself to let her go, to take a step back when that was the last thing I wanted. “I finish at eight. What do you think about me picking up some dinner and bringing it to your trailer when I get home?”

Her eyes filled with heat and the color on her cheeks darkened. She hadn’t forgotten what I said at the lake. Good.

“Sounds great.”

The talking was getting more animated out in the shop. Dane and Riff were debating something. They’d see me walk out of here.

“What are we going to tell them?” Trixie asked. “We’ve been back here a while.”

“We were just discussing Jimmy. I’ve agreed to look after him when you’re working late,” I said, which was something I already did. I smirked. “You were listing his dietary requirements.”

“Cool,” she said absently, that color in her cheeks still there. The order I’d given her yesterday was messing with her. She wanted to know if I was going to keep my promise. I could see the question in her gorgeous eyes. Yeah, I fucking was. And I wanted her thinking about it the rest of the day.

So I stayed where I was and dragged my gaze over her sweet curves, then back up. “Tell me how you’ll be waiting for me when I get there tonight, kitten?”

Her chest expanded, her full breasts straining against her dress. She gifted me with another of her sexy, little shivers. “Bent over the table, no panties.”

“Good girl.” I opened the door and walked out, Trixie following me.

I greeted Dane and Riff, then turned back to Trixie. “See you later?”

“Uh yeah…later.”

Then I walked out as Trixie was telling Dane and Riff about me helping out with Jimmy. I dragged in a deep, relieved breath.

She still wanted me.

Thank fuck.

Trixie

Jimmy lay on my bed as I stood wrapped in a towel in front of my tiny closet. “What am I doing?” I asked my dog.

He completely ignored me. Not even a flick of his ear.

The last couple of days had been…unexpected.

My head was all over the place. This thing between Mase and I was intense. Like nothing I’d ever experienced before, and judging by Mase’s reaction to me leaving without a goodbye this morning, it was for him as well.

Why hadn’t I woken him? I’d been pondering that all day.

Had I been hoping to get a reaction from him? Maybe. Because I knew he wouldn’t like it. Which was messed up, kind of manipulative, and not like me, not at all. That was part of it, there was no point lying to myself about that. The other part had been self-preservation. I’d heard Mase say Janie’s name when he was talking to Bull at the lake. I had no idea what it was about, but still the strength of my reaction had scared me, and not just a little bit.

I’d been jealous. She’d been a huge part of his life and obviously still was.

A whole lot of past insecurities had rushed forward and I’d pushed him away, while trying to get him to show me that he still wanted me, all at the same time.

Again, that wasn’t me. I wasn’t this person.

From what I knew of Mase, he was a straight-up-and-down kind of guy, he said what he was thinking and he didn’t play games. Right now, he wanted me in his bed. If there was anything going on between him and Janie again, he wouldn’t be spending time with me, right?

But by the time I woke this morning, I’d been full of doubt. And I’d sneaked out without saying goodbye, even knowing how he hadn’t liked it the first time.

So yeah, now I felt like a jerk. A petty, jealous, manipulative jerk.

“I’m a jerk,” I said to Jimmy.

My dog continued to ignore me.

Sighing, I grabbed a soft knit dress, not my usual structured style. It was peach with spaghetti straps and came to about mid-thigh. I pulled it over my head and it slid down my naked skin, the soft fabric making me shiver.

Mase would be here soon.

No, I hadn’t been happy about him coming into my work this morning, but I was glad we’d talked. If he hadn’t, we wouldn’t have had a chance to clear things up. We’d both laid it out, all of it. Casual, fun, dirty. Mase wanted me and I wanted him. He hadn’t played any games with me, and I felt so incredibly guilty that I had with him. I’d let my feelings—mainly jealousy and insecurity—creep in and cloud my judgement.

I walked to the mirror to fix my hair and scowled at my
