I run a hand over the back of my neck. “That if your mother wasn’t alive, I wouldn’t have wanted to kill her for keeping you from me. She did what she thought was right at the time. Understanding the mind of a woman,” I laugh bitterly. “I don’t think anyone will truly understand the way a woman thinks. Lay it down, that bitterness. I don’t want it eating at you.”
He’s quiet for a long time. “What about you?”
“What about me?”
“You going to lay the bitterness down for your woman? It’s been five years, and still I feel it coming from you. I recognize it clearly from those years after Jackie.” He finishes the last of his drink.
Damn, he is my kid. “I’m trying. Maybe it will be easier if I ever get my hands on her again.”
“Hm, something tells me you will. Be careful you don’t hurt the both of you with that bitterness.”

She’s beautiful, with natural tits on her that make my cock hard. Her name is Amy, and she’s younger than I would have gone for in the past. I’m guessing mid-twenties. She came onto me and sat in my lap, teasing me about looking for a little girl. I told her I was willing to spank her ass if that’s what she wanted. It was what she deserved for sitting in the laps of strange men.
“You aren’t a strange man. I know who you are, Tony Sabatini. I’m a bad, bad girl. I’ll show you how bad,” she whispers in my ear. “I live in the building across the street.”
Cock hard, I follow her across the street. As she undresses, I want her. Yet when she pushes my jacket off, and her hands run over my chest, her hands are too small, too rough, with long fake nails I’ve never liked. Squeezing my eyes closed, I try to push the thought away. Christy isn’t fucking coming back. After five fucking years, I haven’t found her. I need to give up. My chest twists at the idea of giving up—a Sabatini doesn’t give up.
I catch her wrists in one hand. “I’m sorry, baby girl, not tonight.”
She groans. “I could make it so good, Tony.”
“I don’t doubt you could,” I assure her.
Leaving her, I head straight to Dominic’s club. I’m not giving up. If Valdez is as good as Dominic says he is, maybe he’s good enough to find Christy when the other men have failed.
At home with the number, I don’t know why I just stare at my phone. Dominic said I needed to be prepared for Valdez to find her. After all this time, right this minute, I’m not. If I allow myself to settle on the thought of her for too long rage fires hot and scalding inside.
I hit send. The guy answers on the first ring. “Valdez Security Contracting, how may I help you?”
“This is Tony Sabatini. I have a woman I need found.”

“I’ll have Valdez look into it. He has a bunch of people just to dig into shit online.”
“Bullshit.” I can’t contain the curse at the mention of Valdez.
“What?” Dominic’s eyes are wide.
“You said Valdez would find her. It’s been three months, and he hasn’t found her,” I spit out the words. Still angry at the hope that was beginning to die all over again.
He goes still, then shakes his head. “Pop, if he can’t find her. She could be dead.”
Fuck, no. I know she’s alive. I can feel her. “That’s what he said. No, she’s not dead. I’d know. She’s alive.”
“What aren’t you telling me? It could mean the difference between finding her or not.”
I can’t look at him. Admitting it all over again burns through me. “I put my mother’s ring on her finger. When I woke up, she was gone.”
Dominic pulls out his phone and makes the call, putting it on speaker.
Valdez answers on the first ring. “Christina Teller, the woman Pop has you looking for. Stop looking for Christina Teller. Look for Christy Sabatini.”
“Will do.” The man assures Dominic.
I’m a little dazed by where Dominic went. Could she have? “You really think?”
“It’s the only thing that makes sense. If Valdez couldn’t find her, it’s because she isn’t Christina Teller anymore. You put a ring on her finger. She was your wife before you ever gave it to her. For some crazy fucked up reason, she loved you, and it enough that she kept the name when she left you. Which means she’s hiding something really fucking big.”
Sonofabitch. Christy was pregnant when she left me. I pour another drink as I consider the idea of yet another woman keeping my child from me.

Two days later when I come downstairs, Dominic is waiting for me. He slides a thick file towards me.
“Her name is Sophia Rose. She goes by Rosie.”
Thank fuck. There are dozens of pictures of Rosie and almost as many of Christy. The person was able to get inside the small apartment. I freeze as I spot all the pictures of me, there are pictures on the walls of the living room, Rosie’s room, and even Christy’s room. There are even pictures of me on the bedside tables of both Christy and Rosie’s room.
Beautiful, so damn beautiful. Rosie is almost Christy in miniature, except she has my eyes, and I spot my mother’s profile. Fuck, I can’t breathe.
“I talked to Che. He’s lending us his jet for as long as we need it. It’s gassed and ready to go to Austin.”
Nodding, I look around. “Where’s Carmella?”
“She’s out shopping to put Rosie’s room together. I told her to make up the room in the opposite corner of yours. With Luca in the one across from you. I’m thinking you’re going to want some privacy for a minute. By the time we
