listening to screams echo into their dreams? Do they laugh more than they cry or do they cry more than they laugh? Who do they confide in when their scared or run to when their lost? What makes them feel worthwhile and what do they turn to for a boost when their low? Family? Drugs? Drinking? Sex? Friends?
This is where I run for a high; high above the world in God's neck of the woods where my heart can unravel all the feelings of the day and embrace all the uncomplicated beauty of this holy ground. Ideally I would have my best friend here with me. Our souls
are made of the same stuff so he enhances all that is wonderful in this place.
The thought of him brings me to my feet again and aimed for home. My steady walk increases to a jog, carefully dodging every obstacle in my path while I still have enough vision to see what's in front of me before I lose light. The cooler temperatures are
refreshing; not to the point of discomfort. I jump over some scrub oak with energy I didn't know I had, like when you're running long distance and you hit that wall that attempts to knock you off your feet, until you plow through it and discover your second wind. That second wind gives you the spunk and enthusiasm to pick up your pace and go on... It's
that “going on” part that makes you feel indestructible, like a machine with an endless
reserve of power or a used car that just got injected with a shot of NOS. I feel renewed and once again motivated to take on at least part of the world. It may take another hike tomorrow to have the guts to take it all on, but I'll get there. Imprint
