Sin and effects on prayer
The bible does state that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. In like manner you are a sinner. You cannot atone for your past sins; you cannot change your heart and make yourself holy. But God promises to do all this for you through Christ.
All you have to do is believe that promise. Confess your sins and give yourself to God. As you do this God will fulfil His word to you and in you. If you believe the promise- believe that you are forgiven and cleansed. Do not wait to feel that you are made whole, but say, I believe it; it is so, not because I feel it, but because God has promised.
Jesus says, “What things so ever ye desire, when ye pray believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them” Mark 11:24.
God gave us His son Jesus by whose blood we are saved and cleansed from our sins. When we pray the devil might try to accuse us of our sins , but we are blessed because the blood of Jesus speaks for us and it speaks better things than the blood of Abel, and it speaks louder than what the accuser has to say about us and the sins that we may be accused of .
All we have to do is to take the burden of sin before the Lord and He will know what to do with the load before us. His grace and love for us is amazing, nothing will keep us from the love of the Lord.
God has bound our hearts to Him by unnumbered tokens in heaven and earth. Through the things of nature, and the deepest and tenderest earthly ties that human hearts can know, He has sought to reveal Himself to us. Yet these but imperfectly represent His love. Though all these evidences have been given, the enemy of good blinded the minds of men, so that they looked down upon God with fear, they thought of God as severe and unforgiving.
Satan falsely led men to conceive of God as a being whose chief attribute is stern justice – one who is a severe judge, a harsh exacting creditor , this is why God gave us His son Jesus to die for us and pay the price for our sins so that God’s love may be shown to the whole world.
Who are we then to Pray and call on God
1 John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.
The Bible clearly tells us who we are : the verse above does state that we are the sons of God
God made mankind in His image , and He breathed His breath into us as mankind implying that we carry the breathe of God in us
Psalm 82:6 then goes on to tell us that we are gods…. Some might dispute that but if God is our Father and He calls us His sons then what are we if not children of God? Will a human being father a whale?
We are the apple of God’s eye, His beloved redeemed by His son , John 3:16 goes on to say : For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
When you go before God’s throne of grace in prayer, you are going to a Father who loves us so much and has already given us all things, as long as we believe in Him.
3. Types of prayer
In this section we shall explore the types of prayer, when and how to use each type of prayer.
1. Corporate Prayer / Agreement prayer
In the Bible Matthew 18 : 19 “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven”. Jesus said that where two or more are gathered in His name there He shall be also. It also states that which is bound on earth is also bound in Heaven.
This then becomes the strength of a corporate prayer or an agreement prayer. This prayer can be done by two or more people, when they agree on a desired outcome, or a reason to jointly offer a petition to God. This type of prayer is effective in the sense that
1. It promotes unity among brethren,
2. The parties can lean on each other’s faith in order to receive a divine intervention
3. Where 2 or more are gathered in Jesus’ name there He will be also giving a potency and divine presence around the prayer
2. The Prayer of dedication of consecration and dedication
In Luke 22:41 – 42 And He (Jesus) was withdrawn from them (Peter, James and John) about a stone’s throw and He knelt down and prayed, saying ‘Father if it your will, take this cup away from me ; nevertheless not my will but Yours be done.”’
The prayer of dedication or consecration says you will allow God to set your direction or make the decisions. This prayer allows God to pick and decide what is best for you in light of many options that you might be faced with.
The prayer of dedication and consecration is a prayer that gives control and the final decision over a matter. When you say this prayer God will show you His will and His will will be done indeed no matter the situation or time frame or whatever circumstance you might be faced with. When you say this pray you will never go wrong, God will intervene and show you the right path.
3. The Prayer of intercession
Ephesians 1:15-18 Therefore I also after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints , do not cease to give thanks for you , making mention of you in my prayers ; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ , the Father of glory may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him , the eyes of your understanding being enlightened ; that you may know what is the hoe of His calling , what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”
In this scripture the Apostle Paul was interceding for the Ephesians. He makes it clear that he prayed regularly for the church at Ephesus and for the individuals to there to receive these blessings. He does not set himself in agreement with anyone, so this is a good example of an intercessory prayer. Intercession means that you are interceding – acting in prayer on behalf of someone else. The person may be incapable of praying for himself.
Intercession involves praying for others. It may involve praying in a general way for such things as the church or the government or offering up more specific prayers based on the knowledge of a person’s need.
4. The prayer of binding
Matthew 18: 18-19 “Assuredly I say unto whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”
This is a powerful passage that empowers a prayer warrior to stand and battle in prayer for a desired outcome. Notice that according to this scripture things are bound on earth first and then bound in heaven, whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven as well.
Also notice that this verse does also demonstrates that we have authority through Jesus Christ, authority to bind and loose things.
This prayer works in line with God’s word. You can bind evil spirits. Binding and loosing things has to be done under the authority that you have, given to you through the grace of the Father.
5. Prayer of Faith
Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them and you will have them.”
The scripture tells us to believe, the moment we ask in belief, and then we will receive those things which we ask for. God is a kind and loving Father who grants us our requests. When we pray He answers us immediately.
However, there are delays that we have to battle; there are spirits of stagnation, of delay, of disappointments and several other things that will delay the result from manifesting from the spiritual to the physical realm.
In the Bible, Jesus healed people and often told them that according to your Faith. While it was the Power of God working through Jesus, Jesus credited the miracles to the faith of the people to whom the power had been displayed and had worked in their lives.
When Jesus went to Nazareth He did not do much works there (Matthew 13:58) Jesus never lost His power in Nazareth. The people did not believe. God will not do something against your will, you have to believe that He will do it for you and it will be done according to your faith.
6. Fire Prayers
1 Kings 18:24 You are the God that answers by fire, Exodus 14:24 Let Your fire protect and cover me, Psalm 106:18 Let Your flame burn up wicked spirits
Fire prayers are prayers that are offered up to God, to provoke that He answer by fire. These are prayers that are used mostly in spiritual warfare. The Bible does state that we do not fight with flesh and blood but we fight against principalities and powers.
Fire prayers are the type of prayers that transform situations especially when you feel like you are under demonic or spiritual attacks. Fire prayers can also be used to reverse curses and spells cast upon people by agents of the kingdom of darkness or reverse spiritual ties.
There are several scriptures that can be quoted and offered up with a fire prayer. Such as Psalm 97:3, Luke 3:16, Jeremiah 23:29, Hebrews 1:7, Deuteronomy 7:5
Living a life of Prayer
Psalm 34:12–15 Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and keep your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry .
If you are going to rely on prayer to become the best person that God made you to be then you need to live a life of prayer. These 4 things are a basic start to living a life of prayer
keep your tongue from evil
Keep your lips from telling lies.
Turn from evil and do good ;
Seek peace and pursue it.
Living a life of prayer enables God to act when you pray or call to Him as your Father. The scripture above gives us a guideline of some of the basic things we can focus on in order for God to hear our prayers and act speedily as and when we call to Him.
You cannot live a life that pleases the devil and yet expect God to be the first to answer when you call.
Answered prayers come from a day to day life that acknowledges God as the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. Humanity acknowledges God through walking in His light as you live. The words of your mouth, the nature and texture of your heart and character are a reflection of who lives in you and who influences the decisions you make and how you live your life.
When you live right, you live in God’s word and in His way. When you pray God hears and answers because a faithful child has called unto Him. When you live a life that pleases Him, His ear will be upon you when you are broken hearted
