they are just jealous of me because I am dating the cutest guy in tenth grade,” said Lauren as she gathered her things as the bell rang for 2nd period. Lauren stormed out of the classroom and went to her second period class, Calculus. As she got to the classroom, she passed her boyfriend, Zac.
“Hey Lauren, I didn’t know you had Calculus for 2nd period too. I thought we only had third period together,” said Zac as he sat down beside her and put his first period stuff under his seat.
“Why do people think that I am not allowed to date you? Is it because we are from two different worlds? ” asked Lauren on the spot. She did not mean to ask him right this moment, but she was going to ask him soon.
“I really hoped you wouldn’t ask me that question because the truth is yes. Everyone thinks I should date a basketball player or cheerleader because we have more in common with him or her. However, I date you because I love you and no one can change that. Not even the people who are jealous of you just because they can’t have me as their boyfriend,” said Zac. Lauren could not believe it. Zac finally said that he loves her. Mark this day: this is the best day of her life.
“I can’t believe you just admitted you loved me. In calculus. In front of everyone. I hope no one heard it,” said Lauren as she got her notebook out before their teacher, Mr. Bachman, came in and started class.
“Umm, I didn’t mean to say it out loud and who cares. Now people can’t judge you,” said Zac. He was right. As soon as Lauren was going to say something to Zac, their teacher, Mr. Bachman, walk into the classroom with a mean look on his face, as usual. Some people think he is the rudest teacher in the whole school, but Lauren always got on his nice side.
“Good morning class, I would like for you to do the problem on the board. I would also like to speak to Lauren Kendall in the hallway for just a moment,” said Mr. Bachman. As Lauren walked towards the hallway, the announcements came on.
“Good morning North Shore. This is your principal, Mrs. Harrington. I have just a few announcements. The coach of the volleyball team, Mrs. Doorman, would like me to tell all girls in the school, that the volleyball tryouts for the Jr. Varsity and Varsity teams are today from three to five. Another announcement is that school pictures will be next Friday. The last announcement is that our own Varsity basketball star, Zac Smith, was named the best boys basketball player in the nation for high school. Congrats to Zac Smith. Oh, and before I forget, Lauren Kendall, the star the Varsity volleyball team, was named the best high school girl volleyball payer in the nation. When you see either Zac or Lauren in the halls today, please tell both them congratulations. Have a great first day,” said Mrs. Harrington over the intercom. After the announcements were over, Lauren followed Mr. Bachman to the hall.
“Lauren, you are not in trouble. I just wanted to see how your summer went and if you would be interested in our math bowl team,” said Mr. Bachman. He has always tried to get Lauren into the math bowl team just because she had always had the highest math average in her entire grade since she was in first grade.
“Umm, I am so sorry, Mr. Bachman, but besides school, volleyball is my priority. Sorry to rain on your parade,” said Lauren as she went back inside to the classroom, but she couldn’t get to her desk because of everyone congratulating Zac.
“Umm, hello? Get out of my way,” said Lauren. There were so many people by her desk just because they were so impressed by Zac’s accomplishment. She had to do something.
“ Ok, everyone move out of Ms. Kendall’s way so she can get to her set and we can get down to some math,” said Mr. Bachman as he approached the white board to put down some notes.
“ Me and you. After volleyball tryouts. My house,” said Lauren to Zac. As she said that, Zac got this terrified look on his face.
As the math class was winding own to the last 5 minutes, Mr. Bachman had to tell the class something.
“Ok, now, I have something very important to tell all of you. Tomorrow, you will have a different math teacher and it will be the same teacher for the rest of the year. I just got the news this morning that my wife’s company is expanding and they want her to take care of the office in France. I have know idea who your new teacher, but I can tell you that I will really miss you guys,” said Mr. Bachman as he wiped a tear off his eye.
“We will miss you too Mr. Bachman,” said the nerds of the Math Bowl team. Then, the bell rang and it was time for free period. During free period, you are allowed to do anything that you want. You can go to the gym and practice, or you can go out in the commons to study or do homework.
“L, what are you doing during your free period? I was wondering if you can talk to me then instead of after volleyball,” questioned Zac as he got his math book out of his locker and also grabbed his American Eagle hoodie off of the hook in his locker.
“Um Courtney, Heather and I were going to practice hitting in the gym, but if you want me to talk to you now, I can do that too,” said Lauren as she put her volleyball bag back in her locker and grabbed her phone, some paper , her math book, and her Green Juicy hoodie. Then she text Courtney and Heather telling them that she wasn’t going to practice with them.
LK: Im not gonna practice w/u. I need 2 tlk 2 Zac bout somethings. Ttyl.
CF: but y.? I was lookin forward to settin u guys up, but me nd HR can juss practice by ourselves
HR: yea, don’t worry bout it. U nd zac need to tlk nd we understand tht.
LK: thnx guys, I owe ya 1.
“ Ready to go?” said Zac as he grabbed her hand and went outside.
“ Yea, lets go,” said Lauren as Zac opened the door that lead outside to the commons. Then, they sat down by the fountain, and Lauren started to talk.
“ Ok, I really wanted to talk to you about us. I really want us to be together but I don’t know if I can handle all of the mean looks that I get and you get as well. I mean I really love you Zac, I really do, but I just think we need to be friends. I am not dumping you, it is just what I think is best. If you don’t agree please feel free to tell me,” said Lauren.
“ Wow. I really didn’t know you felt that way. I really don’t know what to say. It is just I kind of feel the same way. Like you said, we both still love each other. I can’t deal with the looks either,” said Zac as he put his arm around her shoulder. Then, Lauren looked at him and smiled.” What?”
“ I think I just found a way for us to still be together. We can just be together secretly. No one has to know. Everyone can think we are just friends,” Lauren said as he kissed her cheek and smiled.
“ That’s a brilliant idea babe. No one will ever know that we’re together as long as we keep it a secret. Does that mean we can’t tell our friends?” Zac asked as he grabbed her hand. Imprint
