chance to respond before I went storming through the burning pile of furniture. When he was out of ear range I leaned against the wall and breathed in the fresh air, the smoke wasn't as thick as it was in the living room. I choked on a sob and fell to my knees, huddling in on myself like a soft blanket. I let the tears fall like I never had before, it was too much to handle, this was all my fault.

I raised my hand out in front of me and examined the weapon with caution, my veins weren't purple anymore and my skin color wasn't the scorching red it was before the accident.

A hand appeared in front of me and slowly, my eyes trailed up the muscular arm and to the face of a sorry expression of the blond man.

"Look, I didn't mean to make you upset. I have my issues and you have your own, I'm sorry for accusing you of not caring. I know you do. I shouldn't insult you like that, and I'm sorry okay?" He looked apologetic and his words held no lies beneath any meaning, he was simply apologizing.

I hesitantly took his hand and stood my feet with a shrug.

"I don't care, I was just resting my legs. I sprained my ankle so it's going to take some getting used to." For a moment he just stared at me uncomfortably, as if assessing what I would say next.

"Why do you do that?" He asked gently. "Why do you pretend like your some emotionless bitch, it's pretty obvious you have feelings, so why pretend?"

"I don't" I snap my hand out of his and walk into the other rooms checking for movements or sounds.

"Hey! We need to hurry, this building won't last much longer! Find Tris and I'll find your mom," He looked at me when I gave him a sharp look, clearing his throat before continuing. "I mean, I'll find Beth. So, yeah."

With one last warning glance I turned around the corner and dived into the heavy smoke, begging she be okay in such a damaged area.

The room before me looked worse than the rest of the house, it was our family room. Though we didn't use it, I liked to sit down on the sofa and read the books I've written on my laptop.

I assessed the damage quickly as to not waste time in the collapsing house, finally my eyes landed on Tris' pair of broken glasses. I prayed in my head that she be fine, I didn't know what I would do if she didn't make it.

I followed along the clear path with squinted eyes. The flames around me flicked at my skin impatiently begging me to leave the room, it was a complete disaster.

Warmth erupted from behind me, and with a startled scream, I was sent flying into the other side of the room. My head banged forcefully against an upside down table off to the side. I slowly pressed my shaky hands to the side of my head, only to pull back and stare at the crimson substance with shock.

I felt like my whole world flashed before my eyes when a large piece of the roof fell into the room beside me. I cried out in pain when a piece of wood splintered my calf, I knew it'd take a miracle to get out alive.

God, please save me from my own wrath.

Chapter Four

I lay there completely useless in a pile of my own mess, I knew I shouldn't have lost my temper with her. Every time this happens we've managed to make it out alive, it's never been this bad.

The large wooden beam on my left leg never lessened the pain in my calf. I could feel the wood sticking out of the side and the blood flow seemed to slow with every breath I took.

"Rose!" Shouted the blonde's voice from the other side of the room. I opened my eyes and stared into the smoke in front of me, the fire blazing only feet from my eyes suddenly grew brighter. I blinked to clear the haze in my mind, blocking me from seeing beyond the large beam on my leg.

I coughed to catch the figure's attention, I could only pray it was the blond.

"Oh my god, Rose! Are you alright?" I couldn't respond to the voice in the darkness. I felt like every bone in my body was weighing me down, keeping me from moving from my spot when, in fact, it was only the large piece of wood.

"G-get it o-off." I sputtered with the amount of smoke entering my lungs. The shadow sprinted across the room only to stop, the blazing fire heated up and spread further across the room. I knew karma would stab me in the ass one day, I just didn't think it'd be today after such a wonderful and eventful evening.

"I'm coming, don't close you're eyes." I felt like half of my world was cut off from sight. With shaky fingers I brushed my face in an attempt to wipe the substance from my face.

Pulling back I noticed how pale my fingers were, and how dark the sticky liquid really was. It was my blood. I coughed in a fatal attempt to clear my lungs from the foggy cloud only to fail pathetically.

Something vaguely cold and slimy touched the sensitive spot on the side of my head, earning a frightening wince in return.

"It's okay, you're going to be fine. I need to you hold this against the wound so you'll stop the blood flow." The shadow's soothing voice sounding only a few inches in front of me now. I brought my shaky hands up to touch the unknown fabric against the wound and brushed fingers with the shadow's rough skin.

He sighed in return and touched the leg quickly losing blood flow.

"I'm going to need you to pull back as fast as you can when I raise the beam, then I'm going to drop it back down. Can you do that?" I vaguely felt my head nod in agreement. I couldn't determine how long I've been in the same position or how long it'd take to get out of the room, but I was losing blood fast. The fabric pressing against the side of my head easily sent warmth back up my spine.

"Ready?" The shadow grunted in return to my nod, and with a sigh I hang tightly onto the chair leg behind me.

"R-read-" I cough violently when a large blast of smoke entered my lungs, the abrupt sound seemed to shake my entire form at the eager smoke.

A loud howl of exasperation reached my pathetic ears.

"Move, now!" The shadow shouted amongst the burning furnish amongst the living room. The weight laying on top of me suddenly vanished resulting in a tingling sensation slithering up the side of my leg.

I screamed in pain when I jolted my leg up to my chest to fast, the splinter of wood stuck painfully out of both sides of my calf. Now that blood flow seemed to reach the screaming wound, the pain became almost unbearable. Sheering heat blasted through the room resulting in a shout from the shadow.

"Rose, we need to move. This house won't last any longer." I couldn't open my eyes, knowing full well tears were gathering up at the corner, and instead let out a scream.

"W-window! Go to t-the window!" I bit my lip as hard as my straight teeth would allow, and relished in the taste of my own blood. I needed something other than the pain in my leg to think about.

"Get it out!" I scream in desperation and anger, I couldn't handle the pain anymore.

"Hold you're breath." He whispers with a pitying sigh in his tone. He knew exactly how painful this must be.

"Stop procrastinating and rip the god forsaken thing out damn it!" I tore the fabric away from the wound on my head and wiped the wet towel on my face, easily giving me my vision back. Pulling the rag back, I could notice the blood stains clinging tightly onto the dirty rag. With a snarl I rip the thin rag in half with my teeth and clench down on the rag to muffle to scream I knew would come.

The pain was instant, there was no ease of relaxation or aftershock. It was immediate and continuous.

"Shit, it's bleeding too much." I blinked through my blurring vision and noticed the blonde sitting next to the beam with a distressed look on his face.

I bit down on the rag as my screams echoed throughout the house vigorously.

With a look at my face, he ripped his shirt off and took two bare pieces of wood from the destruction.

"I need to splint it up, it's not going to be perfect but it'll be enough to walk on. We need to get out of here as soon as possible, then when we're safe I'll pop it back into place and stitch it up with a new splinter on it. Bear with me Rose, it's not going to be pretty." All the while he talked, he easily laid out the two sharp pieces of wood on the rolled up shirt and wrapped it out my calf tightly.

Tears threatened to spring into view but I held them back with every fiber in my being, I couldn't afford to be weaker than I already was. With the half-made splint around my draining calf, I hopped onto my good leg with the help of the blond.

"I never got your name Blondie," I sputter with a laugh at the end, holding back the cough that threatened to tear through my already cracked lips.

He stared down at me with amusement and curiosity, finally sputtering out one word before dragging me along side him. I didn't catch what he said seeing as the fire blazing had closely skimmed at the sensitive skin on my back. I didn't want to distract myself more than I'd already managed to do.

I spotted the window only feet away, only now; it no longer looked like the clean window I sat by to read my books. Broken pieces of glass lay across the burnt floor carelessly making me frown at the sight, it's never been this bad.

Every time we've moved from an incident like this, I never knew it was my doing. The explosions always seemed like coincidence to me, but now seeing how pulsing and angry my hands looked before the explosion, it was no accident. I'd done this, I killed my aunt and an innocent boy that deserved nothing as horrible as a stake through his lung.

With a grunt of pain, I pushed myself through the window and fell to my good side. I held the wound to my head to prevent it from opening more than it'd managed already.

"We need to get out of here, if we call the cops I'll be taken in without a second guess. They've been looking for my brother Cade since I was eleven, so they automatically look for anyone who's in contact with him; me. I've been running from the bastards for as long as I can remember, Tris was just kind enough to get me a job to keep me on my feet."
