tent is over there and Hindle yours is right to the left. Sweet dreams, but you must wake up early to start your journey.” With that the twelve year old goddess retired for the night leaving the two children to get settled in. Fenston couldn’t help but notice that his shelter seemed less neat and more ratty and worn out compared to the others, especially Hindle’s.
Fenston had set his bed so that his head barely stuck out and he laid there gazing up at the stars. His favorite constellation was Hercules, since he had always looked up to the stories his father told him about the hero.
“He was terribly rude and had no respect for women!” Fenston looked up to see the radiant face of Hindle. She held in her arms a blanket and her eyes held a single question. Fenston gave a curt nod as Hindle seemed relieved as she settled down next to Fenston.
“How did you know who I was thinking about?” Hindle laughed and Fenston noticed it was beautiful and melodic.
“He is my brother’s favorite constellation as well. That and I saw where you were staring.” Fenston would have blushed but he was too distracted at the tiny details that made Hindle beautiful; her angular cheek bones, her long eye lashes’, her long smooth hair, and the determination that was always in her eyes.
“Sing for me.” Fenston couldn’t stop the words from escaping his mouth, but he just spoke his mind. Hindle looked at him like he was crazy but Fenston just gave her an encouraging smile.
If the stars could speak,
They would tell of a tale,
Of bravery and heroics,
And hero’s who never stop,
To no avail,
If the stars could speak,
They would tell of the men,
That had battled monsters,
And never been beat,
Of Orion and Hercules,
And Perseus and Odysseus,
One day when the stars learn to speak,
I want them to tell of a tale,
Of a courageous hero,
Who stopped to no avail,
When the stars lean to speak,
I want them to tell but the truth,
And to hear and see,
The story of me.
Fenston looked at Hindle in awe. Her voice was beyond what he had made it to be and he couldn’t help but feel the true emotion she put into the words. Fenston then realized he saw silver cascading down her face. The young boy realized it was tears that was reflecting the moon and for the first time Fenston had no hesitation as he pulled Hindle into his arms.
Hindle woke up in Fenston’s arms, just like she had fallen asleep in them. She wouldn’t admit it to anyone especially Peleus but she felt safe in his arms and was really reluctant to get out but Hindle knew she had to get going so she turned so that she was facing Fenston.
“Fenston, wake up. Come on Mr. Fencer. FENSTON!” Hindle had finally woken up Fenston who blinked away the fog that clouded his vision from his dream.
“Fenston, come on we have to go if we want to get there in time.” Fenston rolled his eyes but got up alongside Hindle.
The two were exhausted; they had walked for nearly a day and were just over half way to Olympia. Even though the journey was hard Fenston had to admit they wouldn’t have made it nearly this far without the things Artemis had given them.
Artemis had been kind enough to give them two loafs of bread and two canteen’s of water making it just enough to make it to Olympia along with her blessing warding off as many monsters as possible. Fenston still couldn’t get the picture of waking up with Hindle in his arms out of his head. Fenston sighed, confused at what he was feeling towards Hindle.
It didn’t take long for them to reach Olympia and the sight of it took away Hindle’s breath. It was large with people littering the streets and many things to buy. Hindle wasn’t worried about not having Drachma’s since if she won the battle she would have riches to rival even the king.
But as they reached the sign up, Fenston knew things were going to go very wrong.
“I would like to entre!” Hindle declared. But the man standing looked at her like she dropped from the stars.
“But you’re a woman. Not even, you're still a girl!” Hindle’s expression was murderous.
“I have every right to enter as does all the other women!” Fenston brought his hand to his forehead and took a deep breath.
“Allow her to enter, it can’t do any harm!” But as soon as the words escaped Fenston’s mouth the king appeared with a questioning look upon his face. Once the man told the king the story he asked them a question in which Hindle answered with no hesitation.
“Are you both brother and sister?”
“No your highness.” It was when Hindle said this that Fenston knew that admitting to the king you were breaking the law was not a wise thing to do.
“I’m so sorry Fenston!” Hindle apologized. Fenston knew she wasn’t the type to cry but she was close now.
“It’s fine Hindle. If I had never met you I would never have had the adventure of my life!” Hindle smiled as they stood in the middle of the stadium. They knew they were going to become some sort of sacrifice to the gods, they just didn’t know which monster it would be at the hands of.
Suddenly an ear piercing shriek sounded the air and a Drakon exited the cage. Hindle knew she was going to die so she turned to Fenston with a look Fenston knew he would never forget.
“It’s up to you if I die, don’t give up.” She whispered. She quickly pressed her lips to his in front of the entire stadium, before she turned to the crowd.
“I am Hindle Archfiend. I am daughter of Athena goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategy and I will not stand to be a wife inside a house for the rest of my life. I am a warrior!” The Drakon didn’t seem pleased with this announcement and charged towards the two children. Hindle looked over at Fenston and her determined look quickly changed to surprised and then smug as she said, “Well son of Zeus, we started this together we will finish it together.” With that the two demi-gods charged into battle.
