“White Hawk quit,” said Big Ben.
“It’s alright,” said Jimmy.
“Good, now leave, you’re not welcomed here, I didn’t invite you,” said White Hawk pushing Jimmy of the steps.
“Stop it White Hawk, don’t do that to him,” Angel went to go pick him up.
“I am fine Angel,” said Jimmy dusting himself off.
“Don’t help him, he is the enemy,” said White Hawk in anger.
“This stops now, what is wrong with you, why are you acting like this all of a sudden?” asked Big Ben.
“It’s in my blood as much as it is in the white eyes blood to treat us like dirt,” said White Hawk.
“Is it in your blood to break up a good friendship,” said Big Ben.
“Yes, I’ve taken all I wanted from the white eyes, no more, my warriors and I won’t take it anymore,” said White Hawk running upstairs and slamming the door.
“Well this is good bye,” said Jimmy.
“Jimmy wait,” said Angel.
Jimmy kept walking towards his house.
Chapter FiveCome morning, it was quiet at the dinner table, nobody talked.
“Son, you should feel sorry for yourself, for doing that to Jimmy,” said Angel. The figure was standing in front of the window looking in. White Hawk looked back at his mother.
“Mom, stop, he is white, if he didn’t want to be my friend he could of told me in person,” said White Hawk.
“Maybe he was scared to,” said Angel.
“Good, he should be scared I have to go to school now,” said White Hawk walking to school.
When he arrived to school he went to his locker, when he opened the door a note fell out. He didn’t open it up or anything he tore it up and threw it away.
“What is going on,” said Whit Hawk.
“Who are you talking to babe?” asked Mary.
“Nobody,” said White Hawk closing his door.
“You’ve been doing that lot lately,” said Marry.
“Not all the time,” said White Hawk.
“Yes you have,” said Mary.
“Come on lets go,” said White Hawk taking Mary to her class.
So they walked in and sat down, Jimmy tapped White Hawk on the shoulder he turned around.
“Did you get my note?” asked Jimmy.
White Hawk didn’t say anything, he just turned around. Then Victor and James walked inside and sat down next to Jimmy.
“Hey Jimmy were having a party after school you want to come, there’ll be smokes and drinks?” asked James.
“No, I don’t smoke or drink, so take it somewhere else you,” said Jimmy getting angry.
White Hawk turned around and made a nasty comment.
“I thought all white like to drink and smoke, like us Natives,” said White Hawk.
“I’m not white, not all whites drink and smoke,” said Jimmy.
White Hawk pulled a pack of smokes out of his back pocket, eight of White Hawks friends saw them and came over there.
“I didn’t know you smoked, I’m going to tell your parents,” said Jimmy.
“You don’t know everything, go ahead tell, I don’t care,” said White Hawk.
“Boys sit down please,” said the Native teacher.
The teacher walked out of the classroom and got the principal.
“Look your old man wants us to go to the pow wow in Alberquqe , you know to try and make our friendship work again, he called me last night,” said Jimmy.
White Hawk grabbed Jimmy by the collar of his shirt and got close to his face.
“I’ll think about it,” White Hawk letting go of Jimmy’s collar.
The he told his friends to leave and go so they went towards the door and the teacher opened it along with the principle.
“White Hawk where are you going?” asked the principle.
“Why do you care?” asked White Hawk angry.
“You’re angry I understand that,” said the Principle.
“You don’t understand, the white think they own everything and everyone, they think they can still treat us like they did long ago,” White Hawk said in anger.
“They do not know own anything here, we the Lakota people run this place, this is as to stop now,” said the principle.
“Don’t worry, I’m not coming back,” said White Hawk.
“White Hawk stop this now?” asked the principle.
“Who’s going to stop me, you old man,” White Hawk said walking out of the class room.
“So you want some drinks, I know where to get some,” said White Hawk’s friend.
“Yeah,” said White Hawk pulling smoke out of his pocket.
“Let’s go then,” said Whit Hawk’s friend.
“Smoke,” said White Hawk.
“Sure,” said White Hawk’s friend.
Jimmy went home and went next door.
“Jimmy what did he say?” asked Running Water.
“He said he’ll thing about it,” Jimmy sitting on the steps outside with Running Water.
“Jimmy, is that you, come on in, how are you?” asked Angel.
“Not good,” White Hawk grabbed me by the collar and said he’ll think about going to the pow wow, it shocked me, I don’t know if you know, but White Hawk was smoking in school,” said Jimmy.
“I wonder where he got them from?” asked Angel.
“I’ll go check is room for some more,” said Big Ben going upstairs.
Big Ben went into White Hawks room and looked everywhere, the he looked under his bed and found a shoe box, it had two packs of smokes and a knife inside, and he grabbed it and went down stairs. Running Water opened it.
“I think we need to take him to the doctor he is either cutting himself, or he’s about to cut somebody else,” said Big Ben.
“Why?” Angel asked worried.
“Well he talks to nothing, you’ll be talking to him and he looks past you and then looks right back at you, and he stares a lot also his attitude and behavior is changing and getting worse,” said Big Ben.
“Yeah, he told me a long time he kept seeing a shadow figure, it was a blur and that he couldn’t make it out, and now maybe he can see it more clearly now,” said Jimmy.
“We should get him tested,” said Big Ben.
“Tested for what? He is not crazy,” said Angel.
“Mom, he see’s things that we cannot see, we need to take him to a white doctor, they can help,” said Big Ben.
“I’ll call around to make an appointment,” said Angel going upstairs.
“Well it’s getting late, I’ll be going home now, I think White Hawk is going to stay with his new friends,” said Jimmy.
“Alright, thank you for telling us,” said Running Water.
So they all went upstairs and went to bed. Next morning came Big Ben was up and eating breakfast, Nuka was getting dressed.
“Nuka are you coming,” said Big Ben standing in the door way with his pickup keys.
“I’m coming,” Nuka running down the stairs.
Chapter Six
So he dropped Nuka at the school and drove away to work. He pulled up into the Sioux Nation Shopping Center and went inside.
“Hey Big Ben how’s it?” asked the manager.
“Washte” (good), just dropped my brother off at school. Did we get anything in the back yet, like those t-shirts we ordered with our four fathers on them?” asked Big Ben.
“No not yet, the truck is late at delivering as always,” laughed the manager.
Big Ben went behind the counter and worked the cash register. Jimmy walked in.
“Haw cola” (hello friend),” said Big Ben.
“Haw” (hello),” said Jimmy.
“Aren’t you supposed to be in school Jimmy?” asked Big Ben.
"Yeah, but I didn’t go because White Hawk, I figured he wouldn’t notice me not there,” said Jimmy putting the coke on the counter.
“Jimmy you know it’s not him, that’s why we’re taking him to the doctors soon,” said Big Ben.
“When you do, I want to come to, he my friend, and he’ll do the same for me,” Jimmy grabbing his coke and walking out of the store.
Back at the school, White Hawk was in the classroom doing his work, then all of a sudden he looked up and saw the figure standing in the door way.
“White Hawk, you defeated some whites, I want you to go in the men’s bathroom and women’s bathroom to write our words on the mirrors with your blood?” asked the figure.
“I need to go to the restroom?” asked White Hawk.
“Go ahead,” said the Native teacher.
So he got up and went to he men’s bathroom he checked and then he looked and locked the door. The figure appeared again.
“Now write our words,” said the figure.
White Hawk pulled his pockets knife out and cut his finger deep so the blood would keep coming and he wrote on the mirrors. “All white men and women, get off Lakota land, you don’t belong with us, get off or die.”
White Hawk grabbed a paper towel and wrapped his finger in it. Unlocked the door and wrote it also in the women’s bathroom as well.
“Now, go get Jimmy and grab a teacher and wipe your blood on their faces, telling them this is a warning if you do not get off Lakota land,” said the figure.
White Hawk looked out the door and saw a teacher coming down the hall way, a white teacher. He grabbed her and pulled her inside and locked the door. She looked at the mirror and back at White Hawk. He was angry. White Hawk grabbed her and wiped his blood all over her, she screamed and ran to the principal’s office; he walked out of the bathroom looking for Jimmy.
“White Hawk!” shouted the principle Warren.
White Hawk smiled and turned around and walked towards the principle.
“Don’t listen to them, your better than they are, come to my office, we’ll call your parents, so you can get help,” said Principle Warren.
Principle Warren had to tie his hands up while the nurse wrapped his finger up. Then his face changed, he was calm.
“His moods change, I don’t even think he knows what he doing half the time,” said Principle Warren.
The nurse brought White Hawk to his office.
“Come on, sit down,” said Principle Warren.
