Prologue
“Come on little one, hurry up” called the black she-wolf. The little black pup tried following her, heaving one paw over the other, he fell to the ground again and cried out. The older she-wolf sighed and walked toward him. She sat down next to him “Do I have to carry you?” she said, annoyed. The little new born pup whimpered and shivered from the frosty air. The she-wolf felt a vibration from miles away.

A grizzly bear lumbered near … the she-wolf’s fur bristled and she picked up her pup by his scruff. She started to jog away quietly but she was too late. The hungry Grizzly had smelled her. He started to follow her slowly. The she-wolf sprinted as fast as she could past the icy glaciers. She could smell other wolves nearby as she entered forest term. She growled and spun around. She was worn out from running. Hungry and out of breath the she wolf laid down. The pup cried for milk but she had none.

The bear was yards behind her but catching up. He was going mad with hunger and when he smelled the she-wolf he had to get her and her little pup. He had her in his sights. This was not hunting seals though; wolves were tricky somehow he needed to sneak up on her. Once he saw her laying down he knew she was tired. He attacked head on.

The poor she wolf cried and jumped up quickly. She stood in front of her pup and snarled a warning to the bear. The bear attacked, smacking her with his paws and then quickly biting a chunk out of her stomach. The little pup started to crawl away he didn’t make a sound for he knew if he did that would be the end. His mother pitifully tried biting the grizzly bear and pining him with her paws. No such luck. The grizzly ripped her to pieces, leaving slivers of her skin and bones. His muzzle stained with her scarlet blood, The bear left, his belly full. The little black pup crawled toward his mother. He whimpered and feebly nudged her. He was alone now he thought. He cried and wailed hoping his mother would awake. He could smell the sickly sweet blood coming out of her and he snuggled up against her waiting for sleep to arrive.

Chapter one

Seven wolves traveled through forest terrain in search of prey. Their massive paws thudded softly in the cool snow. A light brown male barked a warning. He sniffed the air and waved his tail to stay. He crouched forward, ready. “Rouge.” A slim silver she-wolf nodded her head “Pup.” She said. “We could use it.” The tan male snarled and turned around. “Teal. We can’t take in rouge’s!”

“It might be useful.” Teal mumbled defensively. A small silver she-wolf approached cautiously “We could always use extra paws.” She said. The light brown male snorted “Fine, let’s go check it out.”

“Yes! Thanks Fade.” The small wolf squealed and she darted off toward the scent. “Hey Cloud wait!” a brown she-wolf yelled after the younger wolf. The rest of the wolves followed slowly, they were in no rush to get there. “Wait, Cloud!” yelled Fade. The silver she-wolf stopped immediately. “Do you smell that?” he whispered. A small breeze past carrying a rusty scent with it. “Blood.” Whispered a dark brown she-wolf. The wolves approached slowly, the scent getting thicker as they moved. Fade held his breath when he saw the mangled she-wolf corpse. He stepped in a pool of blood and sprinted towards the dead wolf.
“What happened.” gasped Cloud, looking down at the gruesome scene. Teal studied the wounds and sniffed the body. A young brown male wolf stepped up “A grizzly?” he questioned “I think.” Teal replied. “This is bad. We need to alert the pack.” whispered Fade. “Wait!” Cloud jumped over the she-wolf and prodded something on the other side of her. “This is what we smelled.” She announced. The rest of the wolves crossed over to see what Cloud meant. A pitiful, tiny, pitch black male pup lay at his mother’s side. His tiny stomach slowly breathed up and down.

“Poor thing.” whined Cloud. “Found, pick it up, Sleek, Teal and Shield bury the mother. Cloud-“ a low howl interrupted Fade and he growled deep in the back of his throat. “Toxic!” shouted Found. A white male with one silver eye jogged in slowly with two fat arctic hairs in his jaws. “At least someone caught something.” said Fade, annoyed. “Teal, Sleek, Shield. Come to camp when you’re done burying her. The rest come with me.” Fade said and ran off. Found followed with the tiny pup in her jaws and Cloud and Toxic close behind. They ran through the trees quickly and arrived at camp soon after. Toxic dropped the hares in the prey pile.

“What’s this?” A beautiful pure white she-wolf said while walking up to them. “Mikoda.” Fade said and dipped his head “We found a dead rouge she-wolf on our territory that was attacked by a grizzly bear. With her was this pup.” He said flicking his tail towards it, meanwhile a huge pitch black male wolf came up behind the female and listened “the rest of the group is burying the mother they should be back soon and we took this pup. He seems healthy enough.”

Fade finished and stepped back. Found plopped the pup down in front of the huge black male wolf. He sniffed it hesitantly then licked the pup’s ears. “Well Cannon?” Mikoda asked. Found, Sleek, and Shield came running in camp and immediately bowed when they saw Mikoda and cannon “Alphas” they said and they stood in back of Fade. “Healthy.” acknowledged Cannon. Mikoda nodded and grabbed the pup’s scruff with her mouth and pounced on the thick ledge of a rock wall on top of a huge den. “Saltus!” she called “the pack of forest! The hunters found a dead female and her healthy pup. Though this pup is rouge he might grow up to be useful.”
“Throw it in the ocean!” a couple wolves yelled but Mikoda ignored them. “Feather! Please your assistance?” Mikoda called and a tiny dark brown she-wolf with startling silver eyes came silently, gracefully running across camp and onto the wall “Yes Mikoda?” she asked and bowed “The pup. Your opinion?”
“Of course.” The young healer bent down and sniffed the pup. Her silver eyes widened like she was foreseeing the future. “This pup will grow up to be strong. He will be rejected by some but one day he will be one of the most powerful wolves in the forest.”
Mikoda nodded and howled into the sky. “We shall take this pup as one of our own. We will treat him with respect and kindness.”
Feather nodded as did all the wolves and they split among themselves sharing opinion on the new arrival. Feather ignored them and went toward the pup and whispered “Storm your name is Storm.” She looked up when Mikoda came over and picked up the little black pup by his scruff. She trotted towards the Betta den were a tan she-wolf lay with four suckling pups. “Is the rouge going to be with me?” she asked Mikoda, her eyes wide “If you take him.”
“Of course!” she gasped and Mikoda plopped down the fragile pup next to the Betta female. Mikoda turned and trotted away and the Omega padded up to her and smiled “Congratulatons.” She whispered and left. The Betta female looked down at the pup “Welcome to your new home.”
