The Guild Master

"Throughout the world's guilds there are two classes which each have their own systems, there are the Light Guilds, which work toward helping and protecting those who request it and there are the Dark Guilds, which do just the opposite. A guild's main role is to compete with each other and complete request sent to them by the non-guild members of society. Each guild has an area of influence in which serves as their base. When another guild attempts to take over the space they initiate a Guild War. During Guild Wars allied guilds band together in an attempt to destroy their opponents. An example of this would be the Great Guild War of Pernon, the one in which caused the forming of the Council of Inter-Guild Affairs or CIGA for short. Now you may be recruited into a guild in various ways, inheritance, application, kidnapping, and once you are in one you are bound to it unless it is destroyed or you die and our re-animated by a different guild..."

Nate sighed and looked out the classroom window growing bored with the teacher's lesson. He could care less about all the specifics he just wanted to be in a strong guild. He began to imagine himself standing in the front of a large group of faceless shadows a fire spreading across a desolate battlefield, all done by the hands of his guild. A bell pierced his fantasy and he stood up and began to pack his books up and head toward the exit. "Nate," called the voice of a boy not to far behind him, "are you going to sit with us at lunch today."

Nate turned to face the boy and smiled happily, "Of course," he said, "why wouldn't I sit with my future guildmates?" The boys smiled at each other and head out of the class and make their way to the roof of the school. There waiting for them were two people, one girl and 1 boy. The girls turns to see them and quickly gets up and runs over to them hugging them both. "Nate, Ethan," she squeals loudly, "how are you guys?" Ethan and Nate hug her back and say simultaneously, "Bored."

As if that was some kind of code the girl steps back and the other boy moves to stand by her side. "Two on two," he says slyly, "or free-for-all." Nate smiles and is about to speak when the girl speaks before him, "Two on two, Jake," she says, "You and me on a team and Nate teams up with Ethan." "Hold on a second Julie, " Ethan interjects, "why can't I team up with you?" Julie doesn't reply but gets into a fighting stance. Ethan sighs as he and Nate backs up and enters fighting stances of their own.

Nate makes the first move he snaps his fingers as a burst of flames explodes in front of Jake who moves with extreme speed to dodge it. Ethan follows up by dashing to where Jake was and throws a punch aimed at his face. Jake simply grabs Ethan's fist and threw him to the side. As Ethan hits the ground he lunges forward towards Jake again. Jake eyes him then dodges by jumping back as he does a flame is shot towards him from Nate's direction. Before the flame reaches him a gust of wind comes and snuffs the flame. Nate eyes Julie who stands smiling at him. Nate launches a flame and Julie dodges with ease, using a gust of wind propelling her into the air. Ethan lunges up toward Julie and attempts to knock into Julie. As Ethan closes in on Julie he becomes encased in ice. Everyone else turns to see a boy standing by the exit that led to the stairway, his hand holding an ice crystal.

"Guild members should not engage in combat with one another outside of guild tournaments and other competitions," the boy says and turns to Nate, "We learned that just today, did we not?"
Nate smiles at the boy and nods his head. The ice encasing Ethan thaws out and he falls to the ground. "What's the big idea Max," Ethan says, "We were just sparring."

Max turns to Ethan and shakes his head vigourously. "Well if you wanted to have a one-on-one competition," Max says smiling and turns to Nate, "Guild Master Nate can make one." Ethan and the others all turn to Nate with hope on his face. Nate stares back suprised and slightly scared. "Umm," he stutters, "I never agreed to being the guild master, I am happy being a regular member of the guild. Besides Max, you know all the rules so you would make a better guild master."

Max shakes his head and sighs, then turns toward everyone else and says, "Whoever wants Nate to be guild master, raise your hands." Nate watches in despair as everyone raises their hand, sealing his fate. He sighs and turns away, it's not like he could break a decision made by the majority of the guild. The bell began to ring and Nate used that as a chance to escape. He runs towards the edge of the roof and jumps, instead of falling he uses to propel himself forward. After the school was no longer in sight he lands in an alleyway and sighs, he knew that he would have to face them again tommorrow. He moves from the alley into the main street and as he does he bumps into a tall slinky man who seemed to appear out of nowhere.

"I am sorry," the man says as he reaches out to help Nate stand, "I didn't mean to knock you over." Nate takes the man's hand and raises himself from the concrete. "See you later, Nate," the man says and vanishes into the crowd of people. Nate turns to where the man vanished slightly alarmed. Then he looks down into his hand to see a coin laying in his hand. It wasn't a regular coin it had a symbol that probably belonged to a guild. Without much thought he placed the coin into his pocket and headed home.

The Coin and The Fox

Nate rushed into the classroom, his hair and clothes a mess, and sits in his seat, the bell following close behind. His teacher eyes him suspiciously and Ethan, along with Max, lean in to ask why he was late. He glanced at them with a look that silenced them both and then began to look toward the head of the class where, the teacher was teaching. Nate sat bored in the chair trying not to fall asleep. Without much interest, he began drawing in a corner of his book, random lines, that began forming a shape that he had not intended. It resembled a floral pattern you would find along the outline of a poker chip. The bell ring and Nate automatically began to close his book and rise out his seat. As he head to the door he was stopped by Ethan and Max. They escort him to the roof as if he was a flight-risk felon.
