it wasn’t her sister’s fault, she has been avoiding contact with her for years. She didn’t want an incident like that to occur again. You see, Kayla felt that some of what had happened was her fault. Of course NONE of it was. It still hurt her.
Anyway sometimes things could go wrong inside Kesha, like life threatening things. Once when they were eight, Kesha was rushed to the hospital. It scared Kayla so badly, she again thought that she might have had something to do with why Kesha was like this. She thought by keeping her distance, Kesha would be safer.
“Wakey, Wakey!” Kesha yelled jumping on her sister’s bed.
“KESHA! What are you doing??”
Kesha was wearing oven mitts on her ears and a shirt on her pants and a skirt was wrapped around her waist.
“It is opposite day.” Kesha exclaimed!
“Great!”
For the whole day, the two sisters probably had, the best day in their lives. They went to museums, parks, shows, a Broadway musical, and ate at two of the finest restaurants in all of the city. When they were done, they walked home laughing, having a great time. When they got home, Tate was surprised and yet pleased to see Kayla smiling. He hadn’t seen her like that in a while.
“I will go put my bags in my room.”, Kesha said, heading to her room.
“I don’t think I have ever seen you this happy.”, Tate declared, with a not of surprise.
“What are you talking about?, I have been this happy before, just not in a really, really, really long time.”, Kayla replied with a smirk.
“Yeah, admit it you are happy your sister came.”
“Oh, come on! I mean of course I am glad to see her and all, but she is not one of the top people I want to see.”
“Whatever!” Tate said smiling, “I am off to bed, see you in the morning.”.
“ Hey, Sis, I think I am going to sleep, too!” the girls said at the same time. They both smiled, and each went into their own rooms. But before they got to their doors, Kayla turned around, ran down the hall, and gave her sister a big hug.
“ I am glad you came.”, She pronounced proudly.
“ I am glad I came too!” They then said good-night and went into their rooms.
When Kayla awoke, the sun was shining through her window onto her dresser. Her necklace glowed in the light. Maybe Tate was right, maybe she was really happy her sister had shown up.
She slowly got up than realized she needed to be at work early because today she covered all floors. She quickly said good morning to Tate, hugged her sister good-bye and raced out the door.
When she got to the hospital, she got a lecture on being late from Dr.Dean, one of the senior physicians. Afterwards she took the floor, meaning any new arriving patients, she would help out.
She was talking to Tanya when...
“Help, help, we need a doctor on the floor now. She was found in an ally near Rostane Ave.”
Kayla twitched at the name, and then raced over with Tanya to see what was the matter. Kayla gasped and nearly fainted.
On the bed was.. KESHA!
“KESHA, KESHA, KESHA,KESHA!” Kayla said the name over and over, but her sister did not move.
Drenched in sweat, she raced down the hall to find the best doctors.
“Dr.Dean, Dr. Troy, Dr. Grace, Dr. Jelune.”
“Kayla, what is it? What is wrong?” Dr.Troy asked urgently.
But Kayla was already flying down the hall, back to the main desk. Kayla looking mortified not knowing what, feeling like she was falling into a deep hole.
When she awoke, she found herself in a hospital bed. She slowly pushed herself up onto her elbows. She looked around to see where she was. She saw her. In the bed next to her was, Kesha. So many tubes around her. She looked sick, as if the life had gotten beaten out of her.
Kayla walked steadily over to the bed. She took Kesha’s hand and held it to her cheek.
“Oh Kesha, please don’t go. You can’t leave me! I have already lost Corey, I can’t lose you too! I didn’t get to tell you this, but I love you! If you can hear me just move your hand.” Kesha’s hand didn’t move.
“Please, please”. Tears rolling down her face Kayla fell to the floor. “Please, please, you can’t leave me. Please, please.”.
Than she felt it. I little nudge. I small little twitch. Kesha’s hand had moved.
“Doctor, doctor! Somebody! Anybody! She is alive! Oh please!” Kayla walked over to the door, just as it opened.
“ Kayla, your up!, How are you feeling?” Dr. Dean asked.
“I feel fine! How is Kesha? Will she be alright?”
“Well....”
“Well what??”
“Well, we believe that there might be a chance that we can save her, but she will have to stay here for a while. Two to four weeks even”
“Do whatever you need to do. Just save my sister.” Kayla finished, a small tear rolling down her face. It made a small splash as it hit Kesha right in the palm of her hand.
When Kayla finally had to leave the hospital, she walked around the parks, took a cab to the museums, and ate at two of the finest restaurants in the city. When she reached a small little fountain she looked both ways, pulled four bricks out of the wall and slid down on a red rusty slide. At the bottom of the slide there was a small circular room. There were pictures of three children, a rocking horse, a baby doll, and a musty, old looking teddy bear. Kayla walked over to it and picked it up. It had been Corey’s old teddy bear. When he died, Kayla decided to give it to Kesha. She didn’t know what was about it but every time Kesha was hurt or something went wrong she would squeeze the little bear, and in a matter of hours she would be fine. Some people didn’t believe them when they said it was all thanks to the little bear.
Kayla took the little bear and went to the other side of the room, she moved away a small canvas, and then appeared a small staircase. She climbed up the staircase, when she got to the top she pushed out five bricks this time and put them on the last step. She then squeezed herself out of the small hole she had made and place the bricks back into their places. She did the same for the slide. Kayla, although the idea was crazy, decide to take the bear to the hospital and see if it would work, like had done before.
When she got to the hospital, she ran to room 201, and opened the door. Her sister was lying there motion-less. Kayla put the teddy bear in her arms. For a few minutes she just lay there, scared of what was going to happen. Holding her breathe, wishing for Kesha to move. After five minutes of nothing, Kayla left, feeling more miserable than before. When she went home, Tate wasn’t there. She decided to make a microwaved dinner, and watch a movie. At eleven o’clock Tate came back. Something was wrong, he had a black eye and he was limping.
“Tate, oh my gosh! What happened to you?” She asked standing up and getting some ice.
“I went down to Rostane Ave. to teach those people a lesson.” He said, grimacing at the touch of the ice hitting his eye.
“Why would you ever think to do that? Didn’t I tell you they were very dangerous. Here use this towel.” She shouted, handing him a towel.
“Well, I thought they needed to be put in their places. I gave one a broken leg and the other a broken arm. The last of them ran off after that.” He said proudly.
“That is all wonderful and everything, but how does this help Kesha?”
“It helps Kesha by not having those people hurt her anymore. They might have killed her you do realize?”
“Of course I realize that. Which is why she never should have come here in the first place.”
“You want to know the real reason why she came. Because I asked her to.”
“YOU WHAT?”
“I asked her to. I read your diary and I know you did want to see your sister again, so why not bring her back on your birthday. Happy Birthday!”
“Well, if you had read a little further you would have understood why she could not come here. I cant believe this is your doing.”
“I thought you would be happy.”
“Why would I be happy? My sister is in the hospital dying, I will no family if she dies, and this is all my fault because I didn’t send her home in the first place.” She finished, sitting down on the couch, and put her head in her hands.”
“Everything will be fine, okay? You sister will get better. And if it is anybody’s fault it is mine. He replied sitting down next to her, holding her in his arms.
“ Thank you Tate.” She said perking up. “Maybe your right.”
Just then the phone rung.
“Hello?” Tate answered.
“Hi, may I speak to Kayla?” said a cheery voice on the end. Tate passed the phone to Kayla.
“Hello?”
“ Hi Kayla.” It was Dr. Dean said “We have some new for you. Would you mind coming over to the clinic?”
“Yeah sure. Is everything alright?”
“Oh yes. Everything is fine. I’ll see you in the lobby in five minutes.” Then hung up.
“What was that about?” asked Tate.
“Something is up at the clinic. I don’t know what though.”
She grabbed her coat and keys and ran out the door, Tate followed her. When they arrived at the hospital they met Dr. Dean in the Lobby like he had asked.
“Oh great you are here.” He exclaimed.
“What is that you wanted me to see? Is something wrong with Kesha?” Kayla asked nervously.
“Oh, well just follow me.” He said and turned around gliding up the stairs. Kayla and Tate had to run to keep up with him.
When they got to room 201, he opened the door so that they could go in. Inside
