Nikki thanked her, grabbing the paper and inputting the code into the display for a pistol. She popped the display open, reaching in and taking the pistol out. “I’ll take this pistol, as for everybody else…” Her voice trailed off. “Everybody except Braiden can take a gun.”
“W-Why not-” Braiden was interrupted by a sudden burp. “-me.”
“You’re drunk, stay clear of the guns. The last thing we need is a drunk firing off shots and attracting the horde outside.” Nikki declared.
“I agree, Braiden, go upstairs! Sober out while we discuss our next plan.” Nathan said. The others nodded, agreeing that Braiden shouldn’t be allowed to have a gun. With his arrogant attitude that made everybody despise him and his ability to drink, they declared that he was a danger to their safety.
Nikki handed the piece of paper to Nathan and Kiya before returning upstairs. She met up with Braiden, who held a second bottle of alcohol in his hand; tempted to drink it. “Don’t drink, you’re needed for the plan.”
“W-Whhyyy?” He started, his words beginning to slur. “I didn’t doooo nothing.” His speech was getting worse and worse, turning into useless babble. Braiden wasn’t good while drunk.
The others went up the stairs, locking the door behind them. Nathan grabbed an assault rifle, Kiya took a pistol, and Amanda took the hunting rifle. They were now armed but lacking an important piece; ammunition. Amanda’s parents didn’t have a large number of magazines for every gun, making ammunition scarce among the newly armed teenagers.
However, Nikki had a plan. She wanted to venture into town and hit the ammunition and hardware store. They’ll get ammunition and wood to fortify the house and turn it into a fortress. Unfortunately, the only thing that stood in their way was the horde outside the door. They’ll have to wait until the horde thins out or sneak out the backdoor. Either way, time wasn’t on their side.
“While we wait, let’s plan this out. There are five of us here, so we can handle sending half of us to the store. Question is, who volunteers to go? Do remember that you may lose your life there.”
“I’ll go,” Nathan said without hesitation. He was itching to test out the assault rifle, even though he lacked the experience to handle the gun properly. Even so, he was excited to use the weapon.
“What about you, Amanda?” Nikki asked.
“Me?” Amanda asked, pointing at herself.
“Yes, you have the most experience with shooting. It would make sense to have you there assisting the scavenging group. Otherwise, they’ll all be slaughtered.”
“But I’m not strong enough to go. I’ll only be a burden to the team.” Amanda said.
Nikki shook her head before grabbing Amanda’s shoulders and shaking them. “Wake up!” She shouted in her face. “You’ve been trained by your parents to shoot and you do rather well. You shot a deer from a pretty far distance, yet you’re telling me you can’t do anything to help us? Stop lying to yourself, you are the best marksman we have here!” She exclaimed.
“But… but…” Amanda whispered.
“Nikki’s right, give yourself some more credit. You are-” Nathan was cut off by a large burp from Braiden. While everybody had been preparing to take the trip, Braiden was indulging himself with alcohol. He didn’t care about the others, enriching his life with Amanda’s parents’ collection of beers, wines, and other adult-stuff that none of the teens cared about.
“Shut up, Braiden!” Nathan shouted, marching up to the teacher and grabbing a handful of his shirt. “Either help us or get out!”
“Hey!” Braiden shouted, grabbing Nathan’s hand and tearing it off his shirt. “I am your teacher. You-” He was interrupted by another sudden burp. “-need to give me some more respect!”
“You were never our teacher, hell, I never even recognized you!” Nathan shouted.
“Nonetheless, I am an adult. You are all teens under my supervision.”
“This isn’t a field trip!” Kiya shouted, rushing to Nathan’s side. “You need to pitch in and help us or…” She tried to think of a way to finish her sentence.
“Or we’ll throw you out to the horde outside.” Nathan threatened. Braiden looked up at Nathan and scoffed.
“You and what army?”
“Okay, that’s enough. Braiden!” Nikki shouted, pointing at him. “You’re going on the scavenging team. You want to sit down and drink alcohol that doesn’t belong to you? You’ll have to pitch in.”
“Wait!” Nathan exclaimed. “Why do I have to go with him?”
“You rather have him here? Where he could steal and eat up our supplies. I rather want him out there risking his life than here, eating chips and drinking soda.”
“I agree,” Amanda whispered, her voice faint. The others barely heard her.
“I’m not going!” Braiden declared.
“Yes, you are!” Kiya exclaimed. Nathan nodded, agreeing with Kiya.
“You’re outnumbered here. Four on one.” Nikki told him. “Now here’s the roster. Kiya? I want you to stay here and defend the house. As for the others, we’ll move to the store. Any questions?”
“Yeah, I got one? Why in the world am I, a teacher, going?” Braiden exclaimed, standing up from the glass table. “I shouldn’t-”
“If you want to keep drinking, then you’ll go,” Amanda said, her voice not as faint as earlier. “This is my house and my rules. You’re going with us.”
Braiden smacked his lips before turning away from them. He went to the fridge to pick up another alcohol, but Amanda ran to intercept him. She shut the fridge, standing in front of it. “Get ready.” She told him.
“Ugh, fine,” Braiden remarked. “I’ll go.”
“Good, we’ll depart once the horde thins. Take this time to sober up.”

Episode Five "Ammunition and Hardware Store"Night fell on the world, but few were asleep. With constant threats everywhere, nobody could stay asleep. This was the case for Nikki and the others.
A man blacked out by the darkness, hid behind the house, and watched as Nikki, Amanda, Nathan, and Braiden left the property. Once they were out of sight of his hiding spot, he moved forward against the wall perpendicular to the street. He latched onto the corner, peering around it to look at the door. Kiya had locked the door behind the scavenging group, closing all blinds and curtains.
The man glanced around the other direction in which the scavenging group moved forwards towards their destination. “You’ll be sorry, Nikki.” The man remarked before returning to his original hiding spot, next to the backdoor.
He brandished a crowbar from his tactical assault backpack, placing it on the door. He embedded the crowbar into the door’s weakest spot before leveraging his weight onto the tool. The door popped open with a large thud sound.
Kiya, who was watching the front lawn, heard the loud sound echoing in his ear. She scrambled to brandish her pistol, holding it with both hands. She had never held a gun in her life, less so shot one.
“Who’s there? I’m armed, I will shoot.” She threatened the intruder. She slowly walked towards the backdoor, obscured by a wall separating the backdoor and the kitchen/living room. “I’m not going to repeat myself!”
She crept up to the wall, drawing a single breath, before stepping into the small room that housed the backdoor. She pointed her gun into the dimly-lit room, her eyes desperately trying to adjust.
“You’re not Nikki.” The man muttered. He was a few feet from her, able to see in the darkness. He moved quickly to grab Kiya’s hand, twisting it and forcing her to drop the weapon. She shouted out of surprise, taking a step backward. The man pushed forward, grabbing her neck and slamming her against the wall. “Even so, I can still deliver the message.”
With one hand pressing against her neck, he dug through his pockets and pulled out the rope. He tied Kiya up, leaving her in the living room. He then grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil, writing down something on the paper.
After finishing his message, he went up to the backdoor. The door’s lock was broken, leaving Kiya to a quick death. Fortunately, however, he closed the door, placing a chair against the doorknob.
“Goodbye, young miss.” He said as he passed her, opening the curtains on the window closest to the front door. “Your friends will arrive soon.”
He then left through the front door, leaving Kiya tied up in the living room. Her gun, which she tried to use to threaten the man, laid on the floor like a worthless doll.
Kiya glanced around her surroundings, searching for a knife to cut her binds. She noticed a knife laying on the kitchen counter, some distance away from her. “I need to escape before they return or the zombies will barge in.” She thought out loud, not knowing that the man plugged the backdoor.

The scavenging group arrived at their destination, a mix of ammunition and hardware product. “Let’s make this quick. I don’t feel good leaving Kiya on her own.” Nikki remarked while rubbing her hand on the front door’s window. She wiped the fog off the glass door, peering inside. She couldn’t see any zombies inside, trying the front door. It opened to her amazement.
“The front door is open, so we’ll be heading inside. Nathan, I need you to watch this door for zombies. Everybody else will help me clear this place out.”
The rest of the group nodded, following Nikki inside the dimly-lit building. They didn’t turn the lights on in fear of it attracting the zombies. Outside was night-black, making the lights appear even brighter than normal.
Nikki left Nathan in charge of the unlocked front door while she took Amanda and Braiden to check out the rest of the one-story building. They cleared most of the building except for one room, a locked red door standing in their way. Nikki tried to barge her way into the back room, but the door obstructed her. It pushed her back with the same momentum she applied onto the door.
“Leave the door alone, it’s not going to budge,” Braiden remarked. He glared at Nikki, still seething with anger.
“Then go look around and grab supplies. Make it fast.” Nikki ordered. Amanda and Braiden nodded, running off to search for supplies. Nikki, on the other hand, remained behind. She had glanced at the aisles of supplies and concluded that the ammunition was hiding inside the backroom, inaccessible to her.
She continued trying the door, hoping it would open.
Meanwhile, Amanda grabbed a blue bag from a rack of bags. She opened the bag and went off to search for supplies. She skimmed through the aisles, throwing canned and bottled goods into her bag. Once it grew too heavy for her to carry, she dropped it by Nathan, before going to grab another bag. She repeated this process, filling ten bags to the brim. Proud of her findings, she stopped herself before the weight of the bags could crush them all.
Braiden was on the opposite side of the usefulness spectrum, staying in the chip and soda aisles. He opened a bag of chips, eating half of the bag, before throwing it to the side. He guzzled ten bags into his mouth before popping off the lid of a cola drink, taking one large sip. He gulped down half the soda before pushing it to the side.
“Hey, stop doing that!” Amanda whisper-shouted. “We need these supplies, so stop eating
