Before You Read

To give a bit more insight on this book of mine. When I was a sophomore in highschool, I was a rather lonely teenager. I'd switched schools due to issues with bullying and even with my own self-confidence. By the time I hit junior year, I swore I'd be a new person, but I never could set myself to the same emotions. This book is based off of my junior year, with names changed (Including mine) and some events changed to avoid any possible lawsuits if anybody included in this story were to find this.

This is not my junior year word for word, but that is the base for the book, the rest is built off of the many memories I had from this specific year in highschool.

Onto the warnings:

-This book contains profanity (cussing).

-This book contains themes that are not meant for those under the age of 16.

-This book contains certain events that may trigger those who've gone through similar events.

Read at your own risk.

You're New Around Here...

I returned to the smell of leaves, the sight of the building slowly flashing back into memory as it came into view. Summer finally taking it's final breath for the year as fall begins to take it's turn. I sighed as I got out of the car once more to start yet another year of Satan's favorite place. A nearly run-down highschool. Bricks barely holding together as the age of the building as you see the desperate attempts of renovation to the unsaveable structure. I never missed this place.

I walked up to the door, seeing a simple printed paper taped to it's window.

"WELCOME BACK: We hope to make you smile this year!"

"Tch.. Right.." I scoffed at the note. "Fucking pathetic."

I entered the door, strolling past faces I'd seen many times before. I didn't see many new students to the place, maybe about one or two. I just kept to myself and joined into my circle from the previous year. The announcements sirened off.

"Could everyone kindly join us in the gym for a quick announcement?" The principal spoke over the tone.

I watched as all of the students in the lobby trudged to seats scattered around the area as a wheeled stage held a podium atop of it in the middle front of the room. I then grabbed a seat in the back near an old aquaintence, expecting not even a greeting. Once all you'd seen in the room were students as miserable as I, Mrs. Saykaw stepped onto the stage and up to the podium. Mrs. Saykaw was our principal. She'd been a tall, stern, woman with a passion to correct what mistakes most of the students had been.

"Thank you all for joining today! This year we've got new goals, new classes, and so much more to offer to you all!"

Past those few words, I zoned out, thinking to myself and looking around at a casual pace. I was only knocked back into my own reality by the sound of just a few students clapping. As expected in a school like this.

"Finally, we'll be hosting a cookout for the other half of today! We've got all sorts of food for you all and we hope you stay to enjoy it!"

That was their yearly kicker, the one that set off the entire crowd clapping. Who'd ever think a school could be so motivated by food that it pretty much starts small wars in their hallways. I clapped with them, keeping my same expression on my face. I was purely waiting to escape already. The students piled out and into groups to understand a few school events. I hopped into a random group, just walking quietly with the rest, no interests in the world.

I went behind, waiting until the final moment to walk outside and wait to leave once again. The day seemed nothing out of the ordinary for the beginning of junior year. Soon enough, I'll be graduating, flipping my middle finger to the school and the people who ruined my life as we speed off to start a new life, a new experience, and a new way to express my own existence. This school wasn't the best, but it was definitely my preference over the school that made me flee towards the one I'm at now. Maybe I'm just an asshole because others my age can't understand as much as I do. Maybe, just maybe, they don't see how the world works and that their version of a shield is using others at their own will. It wouldn't matter nonetheless. I left, my suffering's not over, but as far as I'm concerned, nobody can fuck with me any longer. I don't plan to take shit from anybody in this damned location.

After returning home I decided to skip the next few days until Friday came along. Of course, if the school hadn't been trashy enough, they're the type to give a season test at the end of the first week of school. I entered the building, starting to read lists posted on classroom doors until I found my name. "Mellani Syver."

So We Meet

As I entered to take my test with the group of students in the same room as I, a certain student caught my attention. Not for his looks, not for his voice, or anything cheesy like that, but for his actions. He seemed to be social, hopping into as many conversations as he can include himself towards. Some students seem to have already known this guy, and others seem uninterested. I shrugged it off and began on my tests to see if I've improved.

After seeing my test scores for the first two tests, I had to wait until after our lunch period to work on the final test. I'd improved on both tests this year, shocking from how much I can never remember. At this point I'd occasionally see that guy looking at me. I'm not sure if it was because I'm ugly, I'm loud, or if it's because he's got something against me. Some students have carried over their dislikes from the other school, refusing to move on. He could've very possibly been one of those people, but my only issue was that I never knew him and I know for a fact that even he's never met myself.

Beside me, I had Katha, my first and only friend since I switched schools the year before. She'd also been done with her tests and we both wanted to do something together on one of the school laptops. I convinced her to create an account on an old childhood game of mine, which she later did. After mentioning the game, I hear a "what the fuck" and sure enough, when I looked up, it was that guy.

"What?! We're just playing a game." I said aggresively.

"Why that game though? That's for like little kids." He responded, nowhere fazed by my choice of reaction.

I smiled lightly, ignoring his comment to go back to Katha, who'd still been on the character creation screen.

Lunch finally struck, nothing strange to happen. I grabbed my food and quietly stepped to my corner with a single bench beside it. I didn't have many friends that would sit beside me, as most would find their larger groups to be near. This didn't bother me a bit, as I'd gotten used to it from previous years.

After nearly twenty minutes, the bell for sixth period finally rang around. I got up, grabbing my bag to sling it over my shoulder, watching as all the others trudged into their areas to finish testing. I walked into the room, setting my bag down loudly onto the table, sitting down right after to open the laptop and get ready for our next test. I felt strange. I looked up slowly, and there he was, looking over once more. As soon as we locked eyes, he turned away and acted as if he wasn't watching me that moment.

Our teacher finally walked in, and wrote up the code for our testing session on the ink-stained whiteboard. I logged in and that was the end of it. After testing, Katha and I began messing around once more.
