Mary Lou and Luther Lee {Mom and Dad We Miss You So}

They dated in LaPryor Texas a small west Texas Town .Did things like most kids did back then and love found its way and a family was created on the best love ever made . Daddy was given when he first married 12 long horn stears to start out with .My Dad was such a handsome man and my Mom a brown hair brown eyed beauty with olive complexion . Their first child they lost for my Mom didn't know you couldn't paint while pregnant .His name would have been Wesley Allen Lee . She became pregnant again and it was another boy his name was Melvine Clayton Lee and oh what a strapping goodlooking boy he came to be . She then got pregnant with twins and oh she told me a barrel was small compared to herself back then . She had the twins but lost one at childbirth .Their names were Etta May and Etta Fay .Etta May was burried there in La Pryor Texas as was Wesley Allen .
For each child my Mom gave birth to my Dad paid for the birth with one of his longhorn stears .

Then came Linda Louella oh she was like a string bean all legs when she was born . Looked so much like her mama and had her Dads natural curly hair. Then came Annette then Lois Then Pat and Kim and Ruby a whapping family of eight kids a year apart most of us . But My Mom and Dad never gave us any less than the best love ever . We didn't have much often the eight of us were raised in a two bedroom house but we were happy always . Together we had others to play with we shared our clothes and Mama well she had a way of raising kids that kept us clean and well mannered. We respected any elder that was about us and other kids we were taught to share with them with whatever we had .

We always loved Christmas for at that time of year it was such magic in the air .We made all our gifts for one another and used what we had and our imagination to create something wonderful . Wrapped them often with brown paper sack and used dried leaves and barries for the ornaments upon them . I can remember Mama singing in the kitchen when she cooked and always happy and with her wings open wide .For you see my Mama didn't work outside the home she raised us kids and saw to it we were safe and loved and that takes a full time position for sure .

We didn't have a TV and Mama didn't believe kids should lay around in the house so she always made us go outside and play . We had home made toys we had such a great time with . I remember one year she gave us all her old mail and she had saved up some old food boxes and cans with the labels and told us to go start our own town .Well we did just that we found us a cluster of trees and rakes us a floor place out and lay rockes where the doors were .We found some boxes to make us some counters and we set up a store and had a mail man and all .The younger kids were the customers and we played all day till Mom called us in for a meal.Then at the table there was such stories and laughter shared .

My Daddy worked as a contruction worker and a carpenter and a dozer driver . He could do most anything .But his most favorite thing was to go fishing and that he did on his days off and took us kids along with him . When the littler ones were just learning to fish he would use a safety pin for their hooks .He made us all find our own bait some grasshoppers ot dragon flies we would run all about the river finding the bait we needed and little did we know Daddy had an eye on us with great enjoyment . Meanwhile he would be catching the fish to take back home which he always caught three or four .

There was a time we lived in Realitas Texas and the house we lived in was great . There wasn't any grass in the yard and it was all sandy there with lots of tarantulas everywhere . Us kids were curious of the spiders and tormented them most every day . We found an old pan from the bottom of an old refrigerator and we tied a rope through the holes at one end .Then one of us whould squeeze down in the pan and another would pull us around the yard and right past those tarantulas holes and the tarantulas would come crawling out and we would scream and have such a great time . It's a wonder we weren't bitten a thousand times . This went on untill one day we were just out in the yard and one of those tarantulas started chasing two of us girls . Jumping right toward us and we took off in a dead run . When we got to a neighbors house we didn't even knock we just went running in.Ha ha well once we caught our breath and told the elderly woman what happened she laughed then asked us if we would like to hear a story.

Oh we thought that was a great idea and she told us you know there is something I need done while I'm telling the story .All of you have shower shoes on and that's just the thing to get rid of the sticker burrs in my yard .I will sit here on the porch and you kids walk around in my yard while I tell the story then come back and sit down near me and while you listen you can pull the stickers out of your shoes and put them in a pile . Well it sounded great to us so off we went .

As she began to read a story to us we didn't know she was reading from her old family Bible .But the story was really great and as we all got settled down near her she had such a loving voice we were as quiet as can be . We found ourself over to her house for a little while a few times a week .Then one day we went and knocked on her door and there was no answer .She was always up and out on her porch by mid day but today the house was all closed up .We went to tell Mama and she said oh she must have went somewhere .But us kids knew that wasn't so for she had no car and her son brought her everyhting she needed . So we wouldn't leave our Mom alone so she went over to check it out . She looked into the old womans window and saw she was still in bed and called out to her . Margaret are you Ok Margaret its Mary Lou can you answer me .
There was no answer and she didn't move so Mama got us kids in the car and we went to get her some help at the police station for we didn't know where her son lived . When the police got her son and they came back to the house it was a few minutes before her son came back out and told our Mom Margarete had passed away .But wait he told Mom before you leave there are a few things she left in this note for you and the children . Mama told him Oh its ok but the son wouldn't have it .He took out a letter and began to read it to us all and it went ;
To Mary Lou and her sweet angels I want you to know that your children have blessed me for many weeks now .They have heard my stories of Jesus and each one showed such love and they helped me get the stickers out of my yard and asked for nothing in return . I bequeath my family bible to you and your family so you can continue the stories I began .There is a marker where we ended and tell the children I wont be far for now I will be listening to he stories just as they have .

This was our first experience of death and it hit us kids pretty hard . When Daddy came home we all told him of our time with Margarete and he smiled and replied to her you kids were like watching butterflies on the wind in such grand beauty for sure a memory she took to heaven to tell this story to Jesus and all of us kids were so pleased to know it could be .

We moved all the time when we were growing up like Gypsies and we never did get the chance to make good life long friends .But we were always willing to make new friends where ever we were to land . Often we made friends with the kids no one else wanted and those were the best kids ever . We shared everything with them and protected them from the bullies at school .

Then Melvine married then Fay then Linda and left at home was Annette and Lois Pat Kin and Ruby and a lot mor room in the house .
But I still remember four girls in a bed made from a fold out sofa with a mattress on it . It was great unless one of the ouside girls got up to go potty then the bed would topple us all off into the floor .
What a rukus we would make and Mama woud tell us if you all are through fussing how about getting back to bed and it wasnt but a few minutes and the house would quieten down once again .

Annette ended up going to college and Lous then got married and leaving Pat Kim and Ruby at home . Times got hard and I remember Daddy always had people invited over for the weekeneds .It was great for all the other people brought their kids over to and we had such a great time .We walked on barrels and walked on stilts played with the hoola hoop and oh played on the old grapevine outside that stretched across a ditch .We would sit on it and hold on tight while others would make it swing and we would scream and laugh till we cried . One day this one kid he was big he swung the vine so hard my sister Lois lost her grip and flew off the vine and in the side of the ditch was a hole and her head went right into that hole .She cried and fussed so much Mama made us cut the vine down and the other kids was mad at her for a long time after that . But we got over our fussing pretty wuick for we always found something else to do to have fun again .

Then I got married and Kim went into the airforce leaving Ruby at home and Mom and Dad missed all their babies running around . And in time my Dad
