One sunny day in Debordieau, South Carolina my family and our friends the McKeon's decided to go on a boat ride. Both mothers decided to stay home with Brian and Ally the oldest of the children. It was Mr. McKeon, Mr. Ward, Cole, Kaitlin, Katie, Jenny, Patrick, and Caroline who agreed to go. Today was going to be a fun- filled day with tubing, swimming, and fishing. Although some of the kids didn't like to fish they agreed to anyway. Soon enough they were on the glistening blue depths of the river. It was time to tube! All the kids were excited except for Caroline, the youngest, who was frightened by tubing. So, Katie, Cole, and Kaitlin started to swim out to the enormous, bright red tube. When they were on they started towards the beach where they would stop to fish and soak up the sun. When they reached the sandy island the kids all jumped off the boat and tied the tube up so it wouldnt float away. For many hours the kids sat on the beach eating hoagies, making sand castles, and playing on the tube. Soon, the beautiful sunny day became covered with gray, sulking clouds. Mr. Ward and Mr. McKeon thought it would pass so Kaitlin, Cole, and Katie continued to play in warm water and on the tube, but Caroline, Jenny, and Patrick knew the sky didnt look right so they climbed up the boat's bow to sit and watch the darkening sky. They started to complain when they thought they heard a quiet rumble of thunder, but the parents were to preoccupied by there fishing to notice. The younger kids started to complain, but the others refused to let there awesome day go. Suddenly a giant flash of lightening hit the ocean and it started to pour buckets of rain. We all scrambled to get onto the boat and pull the lines and tube in. Within minuted we were speeding through the once glistening blue river towards the ramp. The younger kids went behind the parents and the glass of the windshield while the older kids were only covered by that bright red tube. The fast speed caused the rain to feel like pellets of hail. The older kids thought this was a blast and were laughing and having a good time, but the younger kids were crying while the parents were trying to find there way back home through the blackened sky and flashing lightening bolts. Katie decided to go back to comfort the children. And soon enough we were back at the ramp where our mothers were waiting with fresh, dry towels and heated cars. The fathers still had to put the boat onto the trailer, so we decided to come home. In about a half an hour the fathers were home soaking wet with the rain. The day we thought to have been perfect with lots of fun turned to be a battle to get home through the black river in a horrible storm. Now, forever and always, my younger sisters are frightened by thunder storms, but I find it as a fun- filled memory with my family and friends.
