what are you doing?" he asked, as he heard the tub start.
"kelsey?"
he came to the bath room door and saw me putting the jacket in the water. i grabbed a black trash bag, and then stuffed the heavy jacket into the bag.
"i got it." he said, taking it.
i grabbed my back pack, and got into his car. i took the trash bag and marched right up to blake.
"kelsey, babe, what are you,"
"not another word please blake." i gave him the bag and left.
i went around the corner running into landon.
"take me home please."
"come on." he said, sweetly.
after a while landon told me to change into a bathing suit can come to the back yard.
"whoa!" i said, smiling.
"there it is!"
in a blow up pool was tons of water balloons.
"ready?" he asked.
"go!" i yelled grabbing some.
i through the last water balloon.
" i don't need a guy to make me feel better."
"good for you."
we hugged.
"we need to talk." blake said, the next morning.
i kept close to the side, of the lockers. he put out his arm making me stop.
"i'm warning you, don't put your hands on me."
"i didn't say happy birthday because i had a surprise for you at school and i didn't want to ruin, it cause i'm really bad at keeping secrets, and i don't have out with you at school, cause you hang out with that landon kid, i'm sorry, there's no words to say how sorry i am."
was it his eyes, or his words that made me believe him. he was looking out for me.
i hugged him. over his shoulder i saw landon, and gave him a i don't know what to do, face. he shrugged and turned walking around the corner.
it's been a week and landon hasn't talked to me. i opened my front door, and followed blake to his car. i looked over and saw landon getting into his car, with one of those flowers in that container thing. i offered a smile, and he gave me a nod.
"and the king and queen are, Blake jones and Kelsey frost!"
everyone screamed as we walked to the stage. everything felt as if it where in slow motion, as if something where missing. i looked to my right and landon was leaning against the door. his eyes, on the anouncer. after i was crowned, we danced, and then the party went on.
"so we're going to my uncles cabin after this you in?" blakes friend asked
"Nah, kelsey doesn't put out right babe?" he said, lifting up my dress, and thank god, showing my shorts.
his friends all laughed.
"excuse me."
once in the hall i let the tears fall. i was tired of him treating me like this, who did he think he was lifting my dress in front of everyone, who was i to date someone that would break up with me, cause i had no money. i turned the corner, and saw landon coming up it. great. instead of passing him like i planed i ended up going right into his arms, rapping my arms around his waist. he didn't say anything, he just stroked my hair. when i pulled back, he wiped my face, clean of tears. he opened the container and put the flower on my left wrist. he took my had and we walked down the hall a little ways.
"can i have this dance?"
i smiled and took his hand.
after the dance we sat on the floor and shared a pack of skittles.
"why aren't you talking to me?"
"your not being true to yourself kelsey and i can't see you sad, anymore it hurts to much." he said, leaning his head on the wall.
i put in some skittles.
"i miss you."
"i miss you too kelsey believe me. More skittles queen frost?"
"dork," i said, holding out my hand.
"i have to ask. why where you crying?"
i told him the story, his jaws clenching.
"midnight." i said.
we stood. i kissed his cheek and went back in so blake could drive me home.
"oh there you are can you get a ride from someone else? my car's full thanks." blake said.
just like that, as if i where nothing more that a piece of trash. asshole.
i went into the parking lot that was clearing out quickly. i took off my heels and began walking home. a horn beeped, and i got into landons car. without a word he drove forward.
"thanks." i said.
"call me when you want to feel like yourself."
i paused hand on the door.
"goodnight, kelsey."
"night, landon."
"did you have a nice time dear?"
"grandma what are you still doing up?"
"waiting for you, lock the door and let's get some rest."
i went to my room and changed clothes i looked out my window, and saw landon's light on. i when through his back door, locking it on my way. he looked up from his book as i came in. i crossed my arms over my chest.
"will you hold me?" i asked, voice shaking.
he put down his book and scooted over. i climbed in resting my head on his chest. he held me tightly.
"i don't like to see you hurt. he doesn't even know what he has."
when i woke up sun poured through the window. i wrote him a note and went home to get ready.
"so what time do you want me to pick you up?" blake asked, when he called.
"maybe." i looked out my window at landons room, and felt a wave of power.
"don't pick me up." i said, stabbing the end button repeatedly.
"landon wait up i need a ride!" i called, shutting the front door and running to him.
"don't want to ride with prince charming?" he asked, opening my door.
"yeah right that prince is still a frog."
"that's my girl," he laughed.
"we need to talk." i told blake.
"what's up with you hanging up on me?" he demanded.
"i'm tired of you treating me like this, you embarrassed me in front of all your friends."
"what are you talking about!"
i took a step back.
"when a girl stops crying over you, it's cause someone else is making her smile."
i was relived to have landon by my side.
"come on kelsey." landon said.
"it's over blake."
"kelsey." blake said.
"i'm done. we're done. good bye blake. i won't let you hurt me anyomore."
i went down the hall with landon. he hugged me
"you did the right thing."
"yeah i know."
"movie day tomorrow?"
"movie day." i said, as thunder boomed.
over the weekend we watched movies, went on an indoor pick-nick, indoor camping.
i opened my locker and landon came up, and tikcled my sides.
"boo!"
"dork!", i said, rapping him in a hug.
"but i'm your dork."
i laughed.
blake walked by looking at me and then he looked away.
"don't let him ruin your day, kelsey."
"what would i do with out you?"
he laughed, and shut my locker. landon walked mr too all my classes that day.
"so how's your day?"
"good."
he dug through his bag and held a piece of paper up to his mouth and then turned to me. on the paper was a big goofy grin, and i cracked up
"it made you laugh."
still laughing i put my forehead on his shoulder.
"what's wrong?" i asked, my laugh cutting short.
he was looking strait ahead, with his, your done look. i looked up and saw blake passing.
"hey come on, what happened to having a good day?"
"he just get's under my skin."
"guess what?"
"what?" he asked, looking to the side.
"smile!" i said, holding up the paper.
he looked back at me and laughed.
"you know that your the only one that makes me laugh right?"
i turned the paper upside down, and he laughed.
"landon it's not funny, you should be surrounded by people that can make you laugh."
"your all i need." he said, putting his arm around me.
blake squeezed his bottle making the cap fly off. i dug my face in landons shoulder to hide my laugh, which probably looked pretty bad on the other side of things.
we did our homework together and then he had to go home and help his mom.
my alarm clock didn't go off, and i ran to my bathroom. there was a post-it note on the mirror and in landons's writing it said, stop, breathe, smile.
i smiled, and then remember i was late, hurried to get in the shower.
"whoa!" i said, catching myself before i fell.
"slow down, kid." i told myself.
i grabbed an orange and ran out the door.
"whoa." landon said.
"what?" i asked, hopping i didn't have my bra on the outside of my shrit or soemthing.
"you look beautiful."
i stopped feeling a smile come to my face.
"thanks."
"your welcome."
"what are you doing just standing there your going to be late!"
"by grandma!" we called.
we laughed. landon opened my door and we got in.
"kelsey we need to talk." blake said.
"i had a talk with MYSELF and decided that it's better to not talk to YOU."
"come on," he said, as i walked by him.
"can't you see i'm happier without you? why would you want to ruin that for me?"
"i miss you."
"it's alittle to late for that."
"please." he said, grabbing my shoulders.
"let me go."
"i miss you, and i need you."
"let go of me."
"would you listen to me?"
"i said, let me go dammit!"
everyone stopped what they where doing and blake dropped his hands.
"when i said, i was done, i meant it."
i walked away feeling happy with myself, so i must of done something right. right? right.
" i have a qusetion for you." landon said, through clenched teeth.
"whoa, what's wrong?"
"did blake put his hands on you?"
"landon sit down."
"did he or didn't he put his hands on you."
he was mad. pissed. landon had a temper, a big temper.
i stood and said, "come on sit we can talk about this."
"he did didn't he?"
"please."
"don't lie to me kelsey."
"he grabbed my arms."
he exhaled an angry breath and was gone.
i didn't see him for the rest of the day.
"are you ok?" i asked, pushing off of his car.
i rapped my arms around his waist, and he rapped his around my shoulders. we stood there in each others arms.
"i'm fine now."
"are you sure?"
"yeah," he said, opening my door.
once our homework was done he grabbed his jacket.
"i wrote your another post-it, but don't read it until i'm gone." he said, leaving.
when he shut the door, i fell off my bed, tangled in the sheets.
"ow!"
i untangled myself and ran to my bathroom. i paused at the door took a breath and went in.
i took the note off the mirror and read it.
'when we first met i honestly had no idea that you'd be so important to me.'
i smiled and put it on the mirror.
wait. am i reading this note wrong does, landon like me but i was to involved with blake and my feelings to notice? but where friends. landon knows that.
the next day grandma dropped me off at school. while on my way to my locker i passed blake who had a broken arm. when he saw me his eyes widened and he looked away hurrying down the hall, as if i was the one who broke it.
"i'm so starved.". i said, taking landon's grilled cheese.
"so you don't you do get in line?" he
"kelsey?"
he came to the bath room door and saw me putting the jacket in the water. i grabbed a black trash bag, and then stuffed the heavy jacket into the bag.
