"Kelsey could you come here please?" my mom called.
my mom got remarried a year ago to my step loser. i live in a poor town.
"yeah?" i asked, walking into the living room, seeing her and the step freak on the sofa.
"lately your behavior had been out of this world." step lose said
"aw thanks."
"not in a good way, you have changed." mom said.
"i believe the right terms are i'm done trying to please people." i said.
"the way you have behaved is wrong and we disprove of it." the step loser said.
"we? please, maybe i've been acting out to get your attention, ever think of that?" i said
"no need to yell." mom said
"you don't hear me if i don't!" i yelled.
"stop yelling at your mother." step loser said.
"fine i'll stop yelling, i'll stop talking, and hell, maybe i'll stop breathing." i said, turning on my heal.
"kelsey!" she called.
i was tired of him thinking that he was my father, and her being on his side. i went out the back door and i grabbed my money from under the flower pot. i've been saving birthday money for the past ten years, so i can get out of this place. i walked to the gas station.
"hey grandma, it's me kelsey, mind if i come stay with you for a awhile, i won't be any trouble."
"yeah sure, honey, i'll call the school and get you in. when should you be here?"
"dinner time. see you soon."i hung up the phone, and walked down the path to the bus stop.
i watched the buildings pass as i silently said goodbye to everything i've ever known.
"the staff just finished making dinner are you hungry dolly?"
"staved."
"look at you so pretty and tall."
i smiled, i wasn't tall i was around 5'5 and i wasn't all that pretty, i mean everyone says i am but i don't really see it. at my last school i was an outcast to i picked up dancing and that's where i spend most of my time.
after we ate, grandma showed me to my room. i took a shower and put on my favorite pj's.
the nexst morning i took a shower and went down stairs.
"morning, Miss Hale i heard that your granddaughter was in town."
"she sure is would you like to come in?"
"Landon!"
"kelsey!"
i ran to him and we hugged.
"i missed you."
"these are for you." he said, giving me roses.
"aw thanks."
"sure, welcome to Beverley hills Miss Frost, i would love to show you around today."
i set down my flowers and we left. i met landon when i was about four, he's been neighbors with grandma ever since. after he showed me around we ate lunch.
"i'm coming over tomorrow, it's goning to rain. wear your pj's."
"why?"
"you'll see." he kissed my cheek and went inside.
the next morning when i opened the door, landon stood there, with two bags, in his pj's and water drops in his hair.
"there is nothing better than having a lazy day in pj's and watching movies with snacks."
"your a dork."
"yes, but this dork comes with snacks."
i laughed and opened the door so he could come in. we made the snacks and popped in a movie. i don't remember falling asleep but when i woke up i looked up to landon's face. i was laying on his lap. he was watching the t.v. intently, and playing with the ring on my right hand. he looked down and smiled at me. i smiled back.
"sorry. how long was i out?"
"ten twenty minuets."
i looked over at the t.v. as we watched, he went from playing with my ring to playing with my hair.
"remember when you would ask me to brush your hair?"
"yeah, cause you where the only one that could give me chills."
as if on Que i got the chills and we laughed.
"i hate rainy sundays." i said.
"i know."
"you sure remember a lot about me."
"it's not hard to forget, your a really easy person to please."
"kids?" grandma called.
"yeah?" we called.
"i'm going to the flower shop do you want to come?"
"sure." landon said.
he grabbed one of his bags, and pulled out clothes.
"always come prepared."
i laughed. i got ready and we went to the flower shop. while grandma shopped on the inside, we went out back.
"hey." i said.
"what?"
i grabbed a hose, and pointed it at him.
"stick 'em up!"
man i watch to much t.v. when he did the hose went off, soaking him. my mouth fell open and the hose fell from my hands.
"i am so sorry." i said, muffling a laugh.
he wiped his eyes.
"yeah." he said.
he grabbed a bucket off the shelf and through the water at me. we laughed.
"if you make mess you leave!" the owner said, in a huff, making us laugh harder.
"we'll clean it up, ma'am." landon said.
"good." she went inside.
i rung out my hair, and landon through me over his shoulder.
"see what happens when your around!"
i laughed as he put me down.
"you actually have fun?" i offered.
"for heaves sake, look at you!" grandma said.
"it'll dry grandma." landon said.
"it better, now hurry up and get in the car, before i have to pay for water damage." she said.
we laughed and walked to the car, with the owner giving us the evil eye. i bit my lip and hurried into the car.
"i can't take you anywhere. you two are seventeen, not seven." grandma scolded.
"sorry." we said, looking at each other trying not to laugh.
"that's okay, how about some drive thru ice cream?"
"cool." landon said.
"sounds perfect."
the rain had died away, leaving everything a gray streak, of coldness.
"so you set?" landon asked the next day at school.
"yep."
"see ya."
i looked around, and found myself lost.
"need help? being the new kid can be kinda hard." a guy in a foot ball jacket said.
i handed him my classes.
"bummer, your have math with me, i have to warn you, the teacher talks really fast."
we had started walking and we turned into a class room. i followed the guy to the back of the class, and he pulled out a chair for me. i thanked him.
"so you doin' okay?" landon asked at lunch.
"yeah, this one kid has been showing me around."
"i could have done that."
"you do to much."
i waved at the guy, blake, as he passed.
"still if you need help i'm here."
"i know."
the next morning on the way to school there, was a black hoodie over landon's seat.
"can i wear that?"
"wear what?"
"that hoodie."
"yeah sure."
he took it off and gave it to me, the car not swerving.
"thanks." i pulled it on.
"yeah, sure."
i walked to class.
"so i was uh wondering if you i mean , i uh." blake said
"just spit it out."
"i was wondering if you wanted to be my girlfriend."
"oh um sure."
"really?"
i nodded.
"cool," he had a goofy grin, that made me laugh.
"oh no." landon said, pointing at blakes jacket that i was wearing.
"i leave you alone for a couple of hours and the jocks descend."
"blake is really nice."
"blake!" he sneered.
"kelsey, you gotta be care full with that guy."
"i will,"
"alright, so i guess that your going to the the prom with this goof."
"no one's asked me."
"well he better hurry up, is all i gotta say."
"landon are you jealous?"
"no, just protective."
"thanks."
"be careful."
"there you are babe." blake said, sitting down, and kissing me.
landon looked away, discussed.
"so i was wondering if you wanted to go to prom and out to dinner."
"sure."
"shocker." landon muttered.
"cool, see ya bro." blake said, tapping landon's shoulder.
"are you mad at me?" i asked when blake was gone.
"never." he said.
two day's passed, and i was sitting with landon at the lunch table.
"doesn't he ever hang out with you?"
" when i'm at home, he's really sweet, he calls me every morning, and we always hang out at home. on the weekeneds he's bussy with his friends and drinking."
landon dropped his fork.
"don't let that fool make you do things that you wouldn't do."
"he asked me to go to a party this weekend."
"are you going?"
"nah, he's just going to be hanging with his friends."
"you okay, you sound, defeated."
"i'm fine."
"what's wrong, is it blake?"
" when we first met he told his friends about me and we all hung out but at lunch it's like i never exist."
blake came over. he shoved his tongue in my mouth for a couple of seconds gave, landon a point filled look and left.
"gross."
"that guys not worth it,"
"guess what today is."
"what?"
"your birthday!" i said, reaching into my bag.
"you didn't have to." he said, taking my gift.
"open it."
he opened it, and pulled out the shirt and held it against him, as i bit my lip.
"do you like it?"
"i love it."
"good." i said, giving him a hug.
we through our things away and went to class.
"hey how come, your always hanging out with that one guy?" blake asked.
"how come your always hanging out with that cheer leader?"
"i want to take you out for dinner."
"okay."
that's how i found out about him being very rich, cause he took me to an expensive dinner.
"i don't think i could be with someone that didn't have money, they're all barbaric." he said, at dinner.
"yeah," i mumbled.
"you okay?"
"yeah."
"so when can i meet your parents?"
"there away. what if i was poor?"
"then i would break up with you, i guess, but we don't need to worry about that." he took a drink.
"over having no money?" i scoffed
"relax kelsey, it's not like your one of them."
the next morning, i sat in my bed hair in a bun eyes glued to my cell phone.
"happy birthday!" landon said, pushing open my door.
"thanks." i mumbled.
"kelsey?"
i looked up. he had a vase full of red yellow and pink roses, a large white teddy bear, and a little rapped box. four balloons where tied to the vase. my chin quivered.
"whoa, kelsey, what's wrong?"
"you got me all that stuff, and blake hasn't even said happy birthday to me and we went on our first date, and it sucked. i'm just being over emotional."
"or maybe your just tired of being rejected, and pushed away, by people you like."
"don't make a valid point right now, landon i'm going to cry. can i have that teddy bear?"
he gave me the bear, and i hugged it tightly, as he put the vase on my desk. he sat on my bed and opened the little box, pulling out a diamond bracelet. he put it on my right wrist.
"thank you it's lovely."
"i hate seeing you this way kelsey."
"it's like one day your all they think about and the next you don't even exist."
"don't be sad about that guy he doesn't deserve you."
"your like a pencil."
"huh?"
"you erase the sad, and write the happy."
he smiled.
"you wanna go to school or?"
i got up put on landon's hoddie and some flip flops. i grabbed blake's jacket and went into the bathroom.
"kelsey,
