New Life
As I layed there on the table top, I felt someone hovering over me. I could hear their breathing. I could hear everything in this new life. If I concentrated real hard, I could hear the traffic in Seattle or Port Angeles. I felt a hand holding mine, and then I recognized the scent.
I was trying my hardest to breathe normal, but I recognized the scent to well. I knew who was standing over me. It was quiet for a few moments, except for his breathing. I counted two-thousand thirty-nine breaths until I heard footsteps appearing. I listened carefully to the feet that stopped at the doorway. Then I heard Alex speak. ‘How is she doing?’ I heard Alex take a few more steps into the room. I could smell his scent not that far away. He smelled like the first day of spring. All of the pretty flowers and the rain. Oh, the rain. I’ll miss that on my warm skin. But I was becoming marble now, and I was happy with my future.
Leo huffed a sigh next to me. It’d been so long since I’d heard his warm, velvet voice, that when he spoke, it made me jump-internally. ‘She’s-she’s…doing well.’ Then he whispered quietly, ‘I hope.’ He was worrying himself over me; he was such a masochist. He wouldn’t suffer much longer, the burning was slowly fading and I was gradually growing stronger.
I could feel my muscles strengthening. It was quiet for a period of time; I counted Leo’s breaths once again. I heard lighter footsteps approaching the door way. I felt Leo tense over me; I could sense everything in this new body. This new life.
Change
I was still counting Leo’s breathing when I heard him suck in a deep breath quickly. The light footsteps approached the table where I lay. Olivia whispered quietly to Leo, ‘She’s doing great. She’s going to wake up soon, stop worrying.’
Wake up soon? I pondered on this thought while Leo’s breathing went back to normal. The burning was just about gone when my eyes started to flutter. I wasn’t sure about opening them but when I did, I was astounded.
My eyes fluttered quickly; like an old film rolling. My eyes closed once more, and then I flashed them wide open. There was a bright light above my head, too bright for these eyes, my new eyes. I could see everything with these eyes. I could see for distances, I could see the slightest movement from my peripheral vision.
I heard fast movement from the downstairs to the room I layed in. I jumped up and hit the wall on the opposite of the table. I was crouched in the corner. I saw Leo then. He was even more beautiful with these eyes. As soon as I noticed Leo, I rose out of my crouch.
I started walking toward Leo when the others stepped back with caution. I didn’t understand where was the threat? Then I quickly remembered, the threat was me. I stepped back from them, hurrying to the wall again. Leo was holding my eyes, as I was holding his. It was like he was pulling me toward him with them.
My feet slowly started to walk again. Leo began to smile slightly as we approached each other. I smiled with him. We stopped only a few feet between us. I felt the others twinge with worry and they were ready to pounce if something went wrong. Except Olivia, who came skipping to my side, without hesitation.
Olivia was still as beautiful as she was with my human eyes. Short and skinny. Pale white with blue silver eyes, and long deep blueish black hair. And with a smile on her face, just like always. Well, except when she couldn’t ‘see’.
She looked up at me waiting for my undivided attention but I couldn’t concentrate enough to bring myself to look away from Leo. Olivia snapped her tiny, thin fingers in my face. I snapped my head toward her. ‘Thank you,’ she said in her girly, high-pitched voice. Leo was glancing at me from his peripheral while Olivia spoke.
Olivia smiled big and wide with glee. I could feel that there was a big change going to happen, and very soon.
Family
Ruby and Andrew, Lexie and Samuel, and Mason were all tensed and ready as Olivia spoke again. ‘So, how do you feel?’ Her face was beaming with joy. I thought about how I really did feel. Honestly, I was elated. I opened my mouth to speak and everyone went silent.
I felt the need to breathe; it wasn’t necessary but I felt as though I should. I inhaled then exhaled and spoke. ‘I feel-’ I gasped at the sound of my voice. It was high and soft. I sounded like a baby girl, talking for her first time. I giggled internally and externally thinking of the irony. Every single person of my new family stared wide-eyed at me for a long time.
I tried to speak again, without being intrigued by my new founded voice. ‘I feel…’ words confounded me. It was true. I was confounded so much by this new life and my new family, that words failed me. I shook my head, trying to tell them that I was speechless, without actually saying it. I just smiled, shrugged my shoulders and looked at Leo.
I saw Lexie roll her eyes and sigh in the corner. Her arms were older to her chest; she relaxed her position and left the room. Samuel watched her go, and then walked over to me cautiously. He chuckled at my look and said ‘Well then, welcome to the family, Stell.’ He smiled real big and cheesy. That was so Samuel. I smiled back.
Mason was still tensed as he felt the emotions in the room. Olivia walked back over to Mason’s side and placed her hand on his forearm. ‘It’s okay, Mason. Nothing’s going to happen. Trust me.’ He stared at me then looked at Olivia and nodded.
I could feel the eyes I didn’t meet on me. I was still amazed at Leo. He was even more beyond beautiful with these new eyes. I didn’t feel the need to breathe or move or anything, but I felt sort of obligated to. I inhaled deeply and almost tackled Leo.
He smelled even more delicious, and not in a food way. His scent that I picked up was like honey and freesia. It wasn’t bittersweet or anything. He smelled so good. It took all of my new found strength to keep myself off of him in front of my new family.
Tender Love
There was so much that I had to learn from my new family, for this new life. I knew so little from my human life; which are dim memories now. I realized just as we were descending the stairs that this was the first and the last day of my life; which just happened to be forever. I smiled when Leo was at the bottom of the stairs awaiting me. Human pace was not enough for me; I went quickly to his side without hesitation. He smiled when I was next to him. His smile was even more beautiful than in my human eyes. I was staring at Leo, that I felt the need to blush from being embarrassed but then I realized, I would never blush again.
I looked away from Leo, embarrassed, but I could not keep my eyes from his for long. As I looked back into his eyes, he put his hand under my chin. I got chills that ran down my spine when I felt his touch. He was not cold, to my surprise. I smiled at the thought; we were the same temperature now. ‘Come, let me show you our home,’ he murmured. I cocked my head to the side, still in his grip. ‘Our home?’ He smiled, ‘Yes, Ruby built us a home.’ I smiled at the thought of us having our own home. Then I smiled even bigger when I thought about the things we could do with the privacy of our own home.
Leo led the way from the big house and into the forest behind. It wasn’t far from the house, but it was a good distance away…for privacy. I smiled again. He ran at a quick pace, but I wasn’t far behind. I knew I would be stronger than Leo for a few months, but I didn’t care. I wanted to be with him and only him.
Leo started to slow down, I did the same. We started walking when he placed one hand over my eyes and grabbed my waist with the other. ‘What are you doing?’ I asked. He chuckled, low, in my ear. ‘Making sure you don’t peek.’ He led me a little bit closer then released me.
I heard an opening of a door and the smell of exotic flowers. I smelled everything in this life. Besides the flowers, I smelt Leo behind me and his hands cupping my eyes. ‘Are you ready?’ he said. I smiled and giggled, ‘Yes, show me.’ I heard the door open further and felt the ground disappear beneath me.
I gasped and opened my eyes. The first thing I saw, again, was Leo’s beautiful face. I smiled. He smiled. He cradled me in his arms then shrugged me to look into our home. I slowly turned my head and my jaw dropped.
Wooden floors, wooden wall paneling, a gorgeous stone rock fire place. A huge book case along the south wall couches at one end, chairs on the other. This place was beautiful. I couldn’t breathe, reality left me for what I had thought to be hours. Then Leo cleared his throat, ‘So, do you like it?’ I jerked my head back to his face and forgot what I was about to say. I recovered quickly, ‘Yes! I absolutely adore it!’
He set me down, over the threshold softly and showed me our home.
Master bedroom with built in, not to mention huge, closet. We didn’t really need it but, a bathroom was included. Everything was perfect. Leo actually waited till the end to show me the bedroom.
As we were walking to back of the cottage, he grabbed my hand and pulled me lightly. We stopped in front of a door and he gripped the handle. He slowly looked at me and said, ‘This would be our room.’ And then pushed open the door. Once again, my jaw dropped. I believe further this time.
Giant, red sheeted, white comforted bed was smack dab in the middle of the huge room. End tables that matched the type of wood for the head board and a small lounge couch at the foot of the bed.
If it could, my heart started racing and I felt like I had butterflies all over again. I’m sure he felt me slightly grip his hold and let go a tad. He sensed my feeling and pulled me into the room.
I’m sure there was absolutely, positively no way to avoid the beautiful bed. We made it to the lounge couch and crawled our way up to the bed. This was even more beautiful and sensual than our first honeymoon. We weren’t really keeping track on how long we were locked in our room, but it wasn’t long enough, for me.
It was morning by the time we’d found ourselves able to stop. I stared at his body and he stared at mine. I didn’t think I could part from him but we’d have later. Our family was waiting.
