Dawn checked over her bags one more time before boarding the bus to go to her wonderful new boarding school in a small town in Minnesota called Staples. She had lost everything; her family, her friends, her life, everything. It was a three hundred mile journey to Staples, and Dawn was determined to take that journey in silence.
Dawn glared at herself in the mirror as she passed it to get to her seat. It was her fault it was all gone and she was done with it all. The super hero buisness killed her family and made her lose everything. She was determined, though, to start out right.
Dawn swore to herself that she would be a preppy happy normal student, and leave the hero work to the professionals. She would work, and have friends that would stand by her no matter what. She would pass all her classes and maybe even date on Friday nights.
She faught the urge to groan in protest as a young man, about sixteen, the same age as her, plopped into the seat beside her. He smiled politely at her before she turned her head and stared out the window.
Damn, I'm off to a terrible start as a preppy person,
she scolded herself before turning back to him.
"Hi, I'm Dawn," she said with the preppiest smile and voice she could muster.
"Uh, hi," he said a little flustered. "I'm Matt."
Dawn turned her head to the side and pretended to cough as butterflies flew in her stomach at the sound of his name and voice. Matt handed her a water bottle from his bag, his eyes filled with concern. The desert air stung Dawn's throat as she accepted the water.
"So, can I ask where you are going," he asked her in his deep voice.
"A boarding school in Staples, Minnesota," she replied barely keeping the fear from her voice.
"Really? Um, SMHS?" he asked.
"Yep," she said snapping her "p" and popping some gum in her mouth.
"Me too. At least we will know each other," he laughed.
"That's true," she said flirting a little. "Maybe not good, but true."
"Why not good? How is it not good to know an angel," he asked flirting right back.
"Matt," she said serious, trying to hide the thrill she felt saying his name. "I ain't no angel."
The trip moved by fast as the two flirted endlessly the entire trip. Dawn felt confident and cocky, she had managed to seem like a real person to someone. The two exchanged cell phone numbers before parting ways at the doormitory.
Dawn was feeling good about herself as she walked into her room, and in on a make out session between her roommate and some guy, Matt. Dawn's heart shattered as she threw her bag on the ground with a thud. The thud echoed in the room as Dawn glared at the two.
"Well, ain't this quaint," she drawled as the two sprang apart. "My roommate sucking face with an asshole."
Matt's face lost all color suddenly as he regestered who the firey redhead was. Anger flashed Dawn's eyes.
