The first wish

Cassie Lovelace lay on her back, her eyes searching the stary sky for one thing. That one, she thought as her eyes came upon the star. Her star. She sighed and looked up at the sky desperatly, as if demanding to know something.

" I wish...I wish that something amazing would happen,"she begged," Something that would change my boring life Forever." It was only a few minuted before she nodded off to sleep, completly unaware that the star she had wished upon was blinking.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Her eyes opened. Bright morning light blinded her.

" Oh no! I promised mom that I would stop falling asleep in the back yard," she yelped, jumping up, not bothering to wipe the grass of herself. She ran in through the back door and up to her small attic room. Her mom was sitting on her bed, an annoyed expression on her face.

" Cassie, what have I told you about sleeping in the yard? Who knows who or what could find you back there!"

" But mom, I was just wishing," Cassie explained. Her mom's face grew darker.

" For the love of God would you please stop doing that?! You're fifteen, not six. You need to get a life! You are such a disappointment!," her mother spat as she stormed out the room. Cassie stood in her room long after her mom had slammed the door. She was used to her mom and the fact that she hated her. But it still hurt. Didn't she understand that Cassie needed to wish upon a star? That it was the only thing that made her feel alive? She rushed into her pocket sized bathroom, showered, and changed into a fitted lime green tank top, a short jean skirt, and her new lime green converse sneakers. She slipped on her jean jacket, brushed her hair, and studied herself in the mirror. She was pretty; alot of people told her too. She was thin and nicely shapped. Just the right height. She had shoulder length chestnut hair, a heart shapped face, full lips, bright green eyes, and a stunning smile. She looked at the mirror, confused. Then why was it that no one liked her? Cassie jumped as she heard her mom slam the door downstairs. Looked like her mom had left her work. After hopping down the stairs, she made breakfast. Then, she noticed a package being slipped through the door. What was that? She tossed the package onto the table and looked outside. She opened the door.

" Hello?!," she called out. the strange thing was, there was no one around. The street was just as quiet as ever. Cassie shrugged off the strange feeling that had began to settle in her stomach. She walked back into her house and grabbed the package off the table nervously. There was no return address, no nothing. Nothing except for the words, For Cassie Lovelace, written neatly on the small box. She carefully opened it, bitting her bottom lip. There was no telling if there was a bomb in the package. But there was no bomb. Just and even smaller box with a note attached to it.

Dear Cassie, you may not know us, but we know you. You are one of the seven chosen Star Wishers. Use this carefully. And keep this in mind; we are nearer than you think.

There was nothing else. Cassie opened the box carefully and gasped. There was necklace inside, a diamond star handing off the silver chain. Cassie's fingers fumbled with the clasp as she put it on hurriedly. Most people wouldn't believe in the existence of Star Wishers. Cassie was not one of those people. She was a person with no hope in her life. She believed in happinese, in the fact that anything could happen. Which is exactly why she always got hurt. Yet, she was was one of those people that just got right back up, ignoring the past and embracing the thought of a better tomorrow. There was something different about putting one the necklace. Something right. As she looked in the mirror that hung on the wall next to the door, she smiled and grabbed her book back. People could throw whatever they wanted at her today. She was a Star Wisher! Whatever that was...
