Chapter 1
The pain just rips throw me. You would think I would be use to it by now. I try to muffle my screams so I don’t wake Jacob up, but he’s up and by my side within seconds. “Hey, hey, calm down, control it, and fight it. Baby its okay.” He says sounding unsure. I try my hardest, as Jacob pushes my hair out on my face, it feels like my rib cage is tearing apart. I force my moth to clench shut to stop the screaming, and the tears flow faster, then something cracks and my moth opens and I scream as loud as I can. Jacob must have heard it too, “Shit. Bear!” He yelled, and Bear comes running into the room.
“What?”
“I think one of her ribs broke.”
“Crap.” He comes over and sits on the other side of me.
“Emily! Emily can you hear me.”
I shook my head and feel unconscious.
When I woke up all the boys were on the room. Morgan, James, and Tommy were on Jacobs’s bed and other than Jake and Bear every one else was on the floor. Jacob and Bear both look at me. “Okay Emily. This mite hurt we have to get it over with.” Bear said. I looked at him confused and nodded. Jacob took my hand and Bear pressed gently on my ribs, going from one to the next. When he got to my third rib on left side. I wince at the pain. Bear looks at me thoughtfully, “ Is it this one?” He ask me and I shake my head yes. He smiles at me, “ Everything’s going to be fine Em. Jacob can you hand me that cup.” Jacob looked reluctant but did it any way. “Emily, I need you to drink this okay.” I shook my head, as he raised the cup to my lips. The taste is amazing like nothing I’ve ever tasted before.
When it was gone, Bear smiled at me, “Boys lets go. Emily needs to rest.” All the boys but Jacob got up and shuffled out of the room. “You okay?” He asks me after everyone’s left. His eyes look red as if he has been crying. “Yeah. Are you?”
“I was worried.” He looked t me and I laid my head on his chest.
“It’ll be okay.”
“That’s stuff in the cup, Emily that was blood.”
I looked at him shocked about ready to throw up. He smiled and said, “ Deer blood. I know it sounds gross but it helps you. Bear thought you should try it because it will heal your rib and when we hunt that’s our main kill.”
“Why are you telling me this.”
“Bear told me to.” I looked at him and we both laughed.
I lay back on his chest. “Emily, I love you so much.”
“I love you, too Jake.”
Shortly after, I drifted into sleep in his arms.
When I got up the next morning breakfast was done and on the table. I took my seat. And Bear told everyone to be quiet, “Due to the news on the new pack we got yesterday, we are all going to have to be on guard until we know more. Paul, Tommy, Jacob, and I are going to see what we can find out after breakfast.”
“Wait what?” I ask.
Bear looked at me.
“I don’t think we should be sending anyone to find anything out. We don’t know their numbers and if people are going to go, everyone should.”
“Emily I understand you worry, but we have to know more.”
“Bear she dose have a point. I think the whole pack should go. It would be safer.” Forrest cut in. “Well, I disagree strongly with Emily.” Jacob surprised us all and continued, “ If everyone goes then that leaves no one here with Emily, and there’s no way in hell she coming with us.”
“Jacob Emily does have a valid point, and if we all go we would probably find more out.”
Bear said.
“Fine than someone’s staying here with her.”
“Jacob, Emily’s part of the pack now. If we go, she goes.” I smiled. It was nice to have someone to stick up for me.
Jacob stands up and says, “No, it’s too dangerous.”
“Unfortunately Jacob this is not your chose, its Emily’s. So Em, are you going to tag along.” I looked at Jacob then to the rest of the pack, they all gave me encouraging smiles, and I nod yes. Jacob slammed his hands on the table and walked down the hall to our room. The table was quiet and I got up slowly and walked to the room. “Jake.” I said as I opened the door, he was sitting on his bed with his head in his hands. I walked over and got on my knees next to him. “Look at me, Jake.”
“ I don’t want you to go.”
“I know it’s dangerous, but I’m part of the pack too and I have just as much right to go.”
He grabbed both sides of my face and looked into my eyes, “Please, stay here. It would give me less to worry about.” I stood up and walked to the doorway, “I’m going Jake.”
Chapter 2
WE walked out of the house and Jake wouldn’t look at me. Bear desisted that he was going to spilt us up into two groups. Bear, Jacob, Reed, Ben, and James were in one and Paul, Tommy, Morgan, Forrest, and myself were in the other. Before we split Jacob walked up to me and grabbed my hand, “ Please, Be careful.” He said and kissed me. I nodded a response and walked to my group, and we walked away. About a half an hour into it Forrest and I were behind our group, we have been really close since I became part of the pack, and him being like a big brother I made a big mistake by yawning. “What the hell happened.” He said looking at my waist. It was bruised a nasty yellow purple color.
“Don’t tell Jake.” He looked at me and smile, a crocked smile, “ I take it you guys got carried away.”
“Yeah and if you say anything, I’ll be luck to get a kiss ever again.”
“Don’t worry, I wont say anything.”
I smiled a thank you at him, and we continued walking. At about 6:00 pm, after ten hours of looking and finding nothing we headed back. By the time we got back to the house I was exhausted. I walked to my room and flopped on my bed. Jake came in shortly after, and laid next to me. I sighed and snuggled next to him, he laughed and put his hand on my waist and I winced a little bit. He slowly tried to lift my shirt but my hands were on his and he stopped, “Let me see.” His hands move up more reviling my bruises. “Oh My God.” He said and he slowly ran his hands across them. “Hey Jake, it no big deal.” I tell him.
“No big deal? Babe, look at you. I can’t believe I did this.” he kissed my bruises gently. “I’m so sorry.” He said as he sat up, I sat up too and got on his lap, and moved his hands down to my waist. He looked at me and sighed. “ It’s okay. We just need to try some more so we know how much strength to put in it.”
“Emily, you must be crazy if you think we’re ever doing anything like that again.” He slip his hands on my waist but mine were there to put them back. He looked at me with frustration and I kissed him rough with out warning. His hand instinctively grabbed my waist and he kissed me back. I kissed him neck and he chuckled. I sat up, “What.”
“I’m trying to talk myself into how wrong this is, but it feels so right.”
I smiled at him and kissed him again. I broke the kiss and got up. “Where you going?”
“Outside, and your coming with me.” He smiled and stood up. We brought a blanket and set up a make shift camp right in side the forest line. We lay there and looked at the stars. “Jake.”
“Yeah.”
“I only have two or three more days until I’m fully mature.”
“I know.”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Anything.”
“Why me.”
“ What?” he said propping himself on his elbows.
“Why did you pick me over any other girl that we all know you could have had.”
“Well, you beautiful, stubborn, wild, smart. You know what, in easier words you’re the perfect girl for me.”
I looked at him and smiled. He leaned over and kissed me. We both pull away when we hear a howl in the background. We sit there quietly, but then we hear it again. “Emily, get to the house.” He said as he helps me stand up. “Wait Jake what’s going on?” the howls get louder. “Emily, run!” that’s all it took. I ran for the house Jacob right behind me. We brake throw the door in record time. “Bear there’s wolves out there.” Jacob says.
Bear stood up and walked to the open door, and Eric and John come out of the forest, and ran for the house. When they got in they locked the door. “What’s going on?” Bear asked sounding angry and confused. “They were right behind us.” Eric answered.
“Who?”
“The other pack.”
Bear walked over to the window and looked out.
“How many were there?”
“Maybe twenty. More than I have ever seen before.”
“This is bad.”
I look at Bear.” What do we do?” I ask.
He looked at me with a reassuring smile, “ We wait the night out and have a meeting with the Grady pack, in the morning.
Chapter 3
The pack all looked at each other nervously and I took a seat on the couch. Soon everyone joined me. I was dozing of on Jake’s shoulder when Bear looked at me and said, “Emily you need to sleep.” I didn’t argue with him because I knew there was no winning. Jacob stood up and carried to our room. He kissed me goodnight and told me he loved me.
I woke up the next morning feeling stronger than ever. To no surprise the boys were still in the living room, but all were asleep except for Bear, John, Jacob, and Eric. I walk over to where Jake is sitting at the kitchen table and sit next to him. “Holy crap.” John said. We all looked at him. “What?” I ask. “Your eyes really do flash purple. It’s amazing.” He said and I blushed. After about ten minutes of silence, Bear tells us to go wake up the boys.
When were done with that I walked into the room to get dress. Shortly after I’m done Jacob comes in and takes off his shirt and starts to go throw his draws. I walked over and ran my hand down his back, and he freezes. Then he stands up straight and I circle around to the front and rest my hands on his chest. I kiss him questionably, and he kissed me back rougher. My lips moved to his neck then to his chest where I kissed and bit him playfully. He picked me up and carried me to the bed. He kissed my neck and
