The Beginning

When light turns to darkness all shall end, and with that a child will be born with the seeds of light and shall appear in the world filled with darkness. This child is the one who can turn darkness into light; one who can calm the raging dragons of time. This child will be a protector who is protected and will not know of its own power and its ability to be loved by the light and the darkness.

I’m floating in my dream, the wind is caressing my cheeks, the water droplets slide through my hair with ease. The warmth that envelops my body flows through me at even paces never letting me go cold and the feeling of grass tickling my body comforts me as does the scent of fresh dirt that fills my nostrils. My soul feels complete and yet it is in pain; it’s screaming for something, begging for it.

I hear a shrill sound screaming in my ear I open my tired eyes and look out of my tent through a small opening and see two familiar set of feet. I crawl out of my tent to meet her, Ani, my best friend. As she helped me up she scowled down at me, making it known I had overslept and missed something though I honestly didn’t care, I was tired.

“Phienox where have you been the elders have been looking for you!”

I smirked and said “What does it matter they are just old creatures that have nothing better to do than harass me.”

She practically spat fire as she started to curse at me in her mother tongue Fraluin or better known as the language of the flowers. I groaned which caused her to get even more riled up at me

“If you have time to belly ache you have time to walk, so get walking!”

She pulled me up and pushed me forward I lazily trailed out of my yard and to the town center. Most of the orphans are pitied, at least the ones who are native to this clan, but I am unfortunately not a native my parents were wanderers or so I’m told they died when I was 5. Sometimes when I think really hard I can almost see their faces and almost remember what they were like, but it doesn’t really work.

There are very few children like me in the village we are called the unknown while most were adopted I fought against having new parents so the Elders of this town decided to put me to work doing odd jobs till I was old enough for types of hard labor. Usually the clan moves with the seasons so there is always work for me, but the clan decided to stay in one place for a while because of the amount of kids and newborns we’ve had this year.

The clan I am in is a very old clan that goes by the name of Naligori our clan was known for its merciless raids, but as the years went on the clan became more calm and is now at the peak of hunting, farming, gathering and trading. This may seem like a small feat for some, but for this clan that had always relied on bloodshed for anything this has been one of the hardest things we have ever done. We still train our younglings at the ways of combat because while we have settled down others have not and we are not fools to think that some have forgiven us.

“Phienox why must you always oversleep?” Ani asked in an exasperated tone.

“Because I can dear Ani, how is your family’s sheep doing?” Her family has recently bought 3 sheep under the pretense of herding them, I know that is isn’t going very well.

“Oh shut up Phi,” her tone was sharp, but that slight smile said otherwise.

“So what all am I being called for?”

Her brow furrowed at this question and she even seemed hesitant to answer that only peaked my interest even more.

“Phi have you been causing trouble again? You know how important this area is to this town if you’re-“I interrupted her before she could finish her lecture.

“Ani I already told you that I have been teaching the young’uns and it’s kind of hard to go gallivanting off when you have those little buggers to keep track of.” I have been teaching the older kids how to work, hunt and fighting techniques. With the younger ones I teach them how to use their head, how to repair their broken toys and teaching them of what herbs they should and shouldn’t eat.

As I reached the elders tents just out on the outskirts of town I was attacked by some familiar hands as they held me in a choke hold I felt a smile spread across my face. I grabbed him by the arm around my neck and threw him to the ground I quickly jabbed him in the face and pressed my right knee to his neck. I smiled down at the village leader, Orrick a burly man with a white scratchy beard, tan skin form years in the sun and scars lining his body like mine though his were from past wars or raids. I brushed a lock of red and blue hair behind my ear and stared down in to his sea green eyes triumphantly.

“Getting old Orrick?” I purred out

He chuckled and looked up at me with approval, “I could still kick your arse even if I was 100 years old, little bird.”

I helped him up dusted the dirt off of his clothes he stood at least a head taller than me, most of the people do in this clan they were rumored to have been dissidences of the giant berserkers from the old world.

“So Orrick are you going to tell me why I have been called to the Elders?” I asked trying to get to the point of me being here

“Well little bird I’m sure it’s nothing you know how the Elders are about checking up with the Unknown,” I cringe at the thought of another check up they always poke, prod and ask stupid questions, but worst of all I hate the trials

“I have already proven myself I shouldn’t have to go through these archaic tests!”

Orrick frowned down at me “You know why you have to go through these tests they protect this clan from before you were born and they will continue to protect the clan long after you are gone.”

I turned my head away from him and looked at the elders brick house looking like an old queen that had once been a conquer in its prime had become a forgotten relic only used by relics. It’s located just before the forest of tears a strange forest named after a waterfall that looked like a person weeping.

I felt a cold shiver run up my spine I know this feeling, “You didn’t tell me that, that pus-filled mucus face fart was going to be here Orrick.”

He chuckled at my “love filled” words and called out to him “Well Renik might as well come out.”

He poked his head out from a nearby rock
