"Honey, stop fooling around and come look at your sisters' dress. She wants your opinion." My mother says, grabbing the pickle jar I was trying to open and sits it back down on the counter, smoothing out my dress and straightens my shoulders, "You must act like a lady tonight, Desdemona, you cannot embarrass your sister or your father. No fighting, no back talking, put a smile on your face and wave, greet the guests, throwback a couple cocktails and flirt with a few of your fathers business friends' sons. Understand?"
But what if I don't want to be a lady?
I groan internally and try to loosen my mother's grip on my face as she forces me to meet her gaze, "Okay, mom, I'll do my best." I say sweetly and flash her a darling smile that was so fake it hurt even my face.
"Good." She lets me go and starts to take me upstairs, "Look at your lovely sister, tell her to spin, say she looks wonderful and don't fool around. We can't be late to our own party."
I nod and walk into my older sisters' room, watching her as her mercilessly yells at the old woman at her feet trying to add the finishing touches to her dress.
"Really, Amanda? Can try to be a little happy on your coming out party?" I sigh, sending an apologetic look at the old woman.
Amanda spins and looks at me, knocking the woman completely to the floor in the process, "What? I am happy this woman is just so.... Ugh. It doesn't matter, do I look wonderful or what?"
"Yes, as always you look perfect."
Amanda looks back at me with a scowl after she gets done twirling herself, "Well, you look good too... not as good as me but... You're good.."
"Wow, thanks, I feel great now." I say with fake enthusiasm and high content of sarcasm, helping the old woman out and through the door I look at my conceited sister, "Stop looking at yourself before you fall into the mirror, Narcissa, mother doesn't want to be late."
"Wtf is a Narcissa?" My sister asks as she lifts up her dress and brushes past me.
"Nothing, dear, sister. Never mind."
Why did I have to be stuck in this family? Geesh.
THE PARTY
I was downing my fourth cocktail by the table and tried not to puke up all the finger sandwiches while some fancy smancy son of a big kahuna was talking to me in that disgusting nasally voice, asking me how I liked it in bed.
Like ew?
But then they showed up, the Novak's, the richest family in Europe along with one with the most secluded one. They didn't talk to anyone except to have some super explicit, hot sex and I've only seen them but that was because my (step) father was the only man in the business world they trusted enough to take care of their money.
And they were stunning people, absolutely mouth drooling beautiful even more than my sister and that was hard.
The parents, Nikkita and Lukas Novak, both had shining blonde hair. Nikkita looked like a beautiful, porcelain doll with pale skin, big blue eyes, a round face, blonde hair, pink lips and dainty little figure. And her husbands, damn; chocolate eyes, raven colored hair that flowed to his shoulders, his build was strong and hard and he was tanned, he looked like he could snap you in half but whoa, I don't think anyone would complain if he did. Their children were just as beautiful, there were 4 and all boys with one girl who was the youngest around my sister's age.
The oldest, Jakub, was just a bad boy all round and he was sexy but he was the only one of the brothers who didn't sleep around most people thought there was a secret someone in his life. The second oldest was Vasek and he was my favorite one to look at, he was quiet unlike his brothers and sisters, apparently he could paint they say he could be the next Leonardo da Vinci, he wouldn't blatantly try to impress the girls like his brothers who ran around mercilessly but he would sweet talk them, caress them with his cute words and deep voice.... Or that's what I heard. The third was Marek was the fun one he ran around like a mad man, impressed the ladies with his superior intellect even some whisper he was the next big genius, or something. And their little sister was Veronika and she was just like her mother; the pale skin, big blue eyes, petite and long blonde hair but all similarities stopped there, where her mother was quiet and reserved she was loud and funny, not holding anything back.
"Excuse me, but it looks like you're bothering the lady." A deep voice rumbled from behind me, making me catch my breath and look behind me slowly.
The weirdo with the bad haircut and bad breath that persisted in knowing everything in my love life sputtered, "I... Uh, she didn't say anything..." He looks at me with a blush creeping up his neck,"Right?"
"Actually.... You are." I shrug and pick up a cookie.
The guy who turned out to be Vasek smirks and puts a hand on the table, "You heard the lady, scram little man."
Man, that accent was sending chills up my back.
Looking up at him to get a full look and catch my breath, "Whoa..."
"What? Did the sexiness of my face startle you?" He asks, his deep laughter rumbling through his chest so hard I swear the table was vibrating.
"I... Uh... NO." I whisper while my brain is screaming 'yes, oh very much so'.
"If you find me so hot why don't you come to my place sometime...?" He runs a finger from my collar to my neck, "so I can paint you nude, beautiful, I can keep the painting just between us, you can be my Mona Lisa."
I take a breath and shake my head slowly.
Clear your head, Desi, bad things happen when you let your emotions reign. Your mother will be disappointed again if you make an idiot out of her like you always do.
"Okay, well, call me up if you change your mind, pretty face... I'll be waiting but not forever and you've kept me waiting long enough." Vasek whispers and runs a thumb over my lips before dropping his hand completely and walking off, going back to his sister's side.
Wait... Kept him waiting long enough? He hasn't even talked to me before now or even acknowledged my existence.
**2 weeks later**
It was in the middle of the night when there was a loud bang on my door, knocking me from my slumber.
"Dammit." Scrambling to turn on my light I knock practically everything off my nightstand and stumble to my door, "What the heck? Oh, mom..."
"Get dressed, pack a few clothes and toiletries then come downstairs." She says, her eyes and face giving nothing away but she was fully dressed at 3:40 in the morning?
"I... Is everything okay?"
"Everything is fine, do what I said and get down here now."
"Okay... Yes ma'am" I whisper and shut the door, grabbing a duffle bag and just tossing my clothes in before tucking my laptop, mini stereo and favorite teddy bear away while slipping on black skinny jeans and a baggy 'Work for peace' shirt on before bounding down the steps and to the living room only to see my parents fully clothed and my sister in her nightgown whispering hushed to the Novak's...
"What's going on?" I say, freaking out a tad.
Nikkita steps forward and smiles, taking my hand between her cold palms,"You are coming to live with us, darling?"
"What? Why?"
"Because... Well... We wish to unite our families... You will come live with us and by the end of the year you will marry Vasek since he is inheriting the family fortune."
"What?!" I look at my parents,"You knew about this?" I throw Nikkita's hands away and back up into the stairs," I won't marry him but I'm sure Amanda would love it. Make her do it, she'd make a perfect house wife."
Nikkita sighs, "I'm sorry but it's already been done, that's why we figured we'd give you time to know him and us. You can learn to accept us but this is for your family's well-being also, if you care for their safety you will come with us willingly but either way you will come."
"You've got to be joking."
Nikkita smiles sadly and looks behind me, nodding and before I can look back a pair of gloved hands dart around me, pressing a white rag to my face.
"Good girl, Desdemona."
And everything goes dark but not before I get a glimpse of Vasek's pleased face, my mother's approving one and my sister's silent but obvious jealous rage.
Chapter 2
"LET ME OUT OF THIS FREAKING ROOM, YOU BASTARDS!" Pounding on the door and letting out a warrior scream before sinking to my knees, "This totally blows."
"You know, the only reason we arent letting you out of this room is because youre screaming like a wild one, once you calm down we'll let you out." A deep, velvety voice that I instantly regonized as Vasek's.
I growlto myself and move to the bed plopping down,"I'm calm i swear, now let me out before I pee on the floor." Hearing Vasek's deep sigh of resignation and the ringing of keys before the door swung open brought a smile to my face, that threat always works.
"There, will you relax now?"
"Much." I grin and pop off the bed, shooting around Vasek and to the closest open-doored bathroom I could find.
Vasek blinks and turns looking at me,"Hey, I needed to tell you something."
I turn and look at him,"Well tell that something through the bathroom door because I seriously have to pee..."
"Fine, fine, use the bathroom"
I slam the door in his face, "So what's up, future husband?"
"My parents are throwing a family dinner tonight at one of the restaurant's we own so my sister is going to take you shopping for an appropriate dress."
"A family dinner? Will mine be there?" I ask, curiously and excitedly.
I can hear Vasek snort and a mutter before he speaks up louder, "Of course not, this is MY family dinner."
Well, there goes my hope of convincing them to get me from this place.
Opening the door abruptly and giving a hard look,"You do realize my family will become yours once we're married right so you have to no right say it like that when i ask you about OUR families. And when I get there can i ask your parents why they had me drugged? is this your house like some secret location?"
"You can ask them all those questions when we have the dinner, yes," Vasek sighs and nods before giving me a once over, "Have I told you how beautiful you are?" before i know it he's got me up against the wall, his hands under my shirt on my sides and his hot breath going down the side of neck, practically panting like he's got to hold himself back.
"Well, you did want to paint me... " I
