more quiet calm one.
"You boys are terrible. It's not a wonder why girls don't like you."
"I don't see you clinging to 99909090a boy yourself Anna, We're engaged if you've forgotten and Kesiah is the closest thing you'll get to a relationship; romantically speaking." Kale replied confidently. This trigered something in Anna and she stood from the table and said with a reddened face that also flashed a pride in her friendship, "I can take you any time dear! Me and Kesiah are best friends! We don't need dumb men!"
"It's 'Kesiah and I' goldernend idiot." Kale retorted calmly.
Clare let out a bothered sigh, "I'm going to pretend you did not just say that Anna. You have taken a misleading pride and it'd be much appreciated if you lower your pride." But no one seemed to pay any attention to the poor women. "Anna, you and Kesiah would make the perfact couple. Truly you fit into eachother's worlds so perfactly." Brendon sneered as he stood and walked up stairs and into the hallway to his room that was parallel to Anna's and Kale's. Anna was glaring at her other brother, now seeing him as a new challenge she spoke roughly, "You dare think I am not strong with your mocking? Think again damned brother."
She leaped at Kale and clung to him like a monkey on his back. He howled with laughter and began to spin to try and throw her off. Anna's mother only sighed as this was not their first fight. She turned from the pot of stew, "Stop roughing you two or I'll make you do an extra chore tomorrow." Anna hated her chores and so this threat was enough to get the girl off her brother.
They both chuckled and then her mother put in, "Call your father in please. Supper will be served soon and I'd like for you all to be clean at this table."
Kale walked out the room and left Anna with her mother. She helped set the table and serve the food but it was very quiet as she was a big day dreamer. Her dreams, her world, she couldn't explain to anyone what her mind had the power of creating. She thought of the children and wondered where they'd gone to.
Perhaps, a world here slumber wasn't needed and magic was the soul root of life and dancing, music all of the festivals and ball room dances that she only ever dreamt of, actually exsisted there in that world. She began to wonder if there was delightful food there, such as warm crepes, crumpets, truffles or some little deserts that she'd tried only on special occasions in her home.
Of course she knew these thoughts were somewhat foolish. The children weren't in a heaven as such. In fact, there was the possibility; the one possibility that delivered chills up her spine- well, sent chills up everyone's and it was the posiibility these children had finally seperated from the realm of earth. It was the possibility that they had all d-
"Anna." Her mother murmured, interupting her daughters deep thoughts.
Anna jolted and turned to her worried mother swiftly, "Hunh?"
"You entered your world again Anna," She teased walking up to her and taping Anna's nose slightly and then she turned back to the stove. Anna looked out the window to the grey sky and sighed. There was a mystery above her and she wanted to figure out this mystery like a detective.
Two days passed, there was yet, another snatching. It was a young boy, but see what made this event more frightful then the others is that the young boy was in his room all day and still there was a loud shriek from his room and when his parents approached they realized he was gone. The villigers were in panic and fingers pointed, the men searched every inch of the woods or tried anyway. Everyone was blaming everyone and it was just a terrible nightmare coming into reality. Witchcraft was now a clue to the matter and people were now spreading rumors about eachother.
Kesiah dashed toward the shop in a pursuit and pounced on the door quickly. Clara was at the front desk counting the needles before she ran to open the door. She'd picked out thru the square big windows and saw that it was a red head who was most likely Kesiah. She opened the door and it was in fact her.
"H-Hello Kesiah, what brings you here today?" She asked hesitently. Kesiah rarely came to their shop and when she did it was usually something important.
"Happen to hear the news?" She asked urgently and she stepped into the room quickly.
"W-what-oh yes!" Clara exclaimed, "You are reffering to the poor boy yes?"
Kesiah nodded sadly and sighed, "Well, I assume that Anna knows. Speaking of which, where is everyone?" She looked around the room and then to Clara.
Clara walked over to the desk, "Well, Jeremy took them out to the market to get me some equipment. You know, Needles, thread and some measuring tape. Anna tore some after trying to create a rope around her chest."
"That's my girl," Kesiah joked, chuckling to herself. Clara raised her brow and stayed strictly quiet.
"Uh, I was merely joking at the idea," Kesiah defended herself.
"Never the less, I just think it's a stunning job you're doing here," Kesiah nodded, looking at the sample lush gowns on the manicans and then went on to say, "I mean, you make such fancy elegant gowns." She said looking over the pink hue walls and the elgent patterned light pink carpets. There were elegant chairs set with patterened silver and shelfs where there lay some head bands and ribbons and hats, bonnets and such.
Clara smiled, "Thank you dear."
She looked down at her money chart and then looked over to see her pink cloths that were rolled up and tucked beneath some of the blues in a cupard. Kesiah was not finished though, she walked over to her and then said, "Everyone's scared and they're starting to acuse people. It's frightening and I still can't understand why this is happening. The pastor says we must pray and hope for the best but I'm concerned for my little sister. I would be devestated if anything were to heppen to her while I'm away."
"Well," Clara turned to her, "Where is she now?"
Kesiah shut her eyes, shewed her hand and said in a laid-back manner, "Oh, there's nothing to worry about, she's with-" She paused the shewing, flashed her eyes open and came to a realizatioin, "Oh no! She's with my brother! He is terrible with children!! Absolutly gaunt and weak is he! Ahhh!" She turned and ran to the door, "Tell Anna I need her to meet me at the bakery tree this afternoon. We need to go over matters that should not concern you." With the ring of the shop bell as she opened the door, she was off on her merry way.
Clara sighed and looked around the silent room. It was afternoon and the sun was bright. Clara watched as villigers passed by, talking to eachother and sometimes glancing over at the store. She hadn't had customers since the morning and they merely asked for material which cost far less then any of her gowns. It's true that her shop was busy and well known in the village but during this event that was taking place it seemed like dresses and clothes were the least of everyones problems which was understandable.
When Jeremy and the children came back, they ate and then Kale and Brendon began their reading and Anna just started to write. She loved to write and day dream about the things she wrote about.
"Anna," Her mother called out from the sewing room downstairs from the shop. She was designing a new dress. Anna lifted her head from her writing and stood from her bed. She ran down the stairs past the parlor and down to the workroom. She glanced around. The room was a mess, dress pieces and cloths, designer models and shoes everywhere. She sighed when her eyes found her mother sitting near the door and fixing up this velvet gown that was tethered with gold. It was a pretty dress but she wasn't plannning on wearing any for herself any time soon.
Her mother stopped sewing and looked up at her, "Oh, hello dear. You startled me! None the less, I am to inform you that your friend wants to meet you at the bakery tree later this afternoon. There are matters you two must discuss?"
"We're detectives. It's our job to see to this terrible mystery!" She exclaimed as she dashed up stairs into the parlow shop and leaving her mother to laugh at her. The sun soaked into the light colored room and Anna couldn't help but feel vulnerable with its radiance. She then realized that she couldn't just be sitting there in a daze with the sun. Her best friend would be waiting for her by the bakery tree.
She went into her room at the far left of the hallway and opened the door. Her bed was not yet made and she liked it that way. She walked over to her chest at the edge of the bedside. When Anna unlocked it she looked into the hallow box to the things inside. Her bible, her journal, some writing tools, a candle Kesiah gave her, some paintings and a couple of broches that had been given to her from past years. But the thing she was trying to find was the leather journal. She grabbed it and pulled away from the chest to her red cloak that hung gracefully against her desk. She yanked it and walked over to to her bed. She tied her black boots and then headed for downstairs.
When she walked out she was reasured by the cool breeze that she was not alone and she dashed down the dirt road she headed for the bakery which was a couple of blocks away. When she got to the little shop, she noticed that there were detecitives standing outside. She looked at them for a moment and then slowly turned to the tree where Margret said she'd meet her. People passed through this busy place all the while she stood beside the oak tree and waited for her best friend to arrive.
She shut her eyes and inhaled the aroma of baked banana nut bread and Amber cake, cinnomen rolls and straberry tarts filled the air with their sweet aromas yet again. There was always a different delicious tempting smell for the bakery. Anna always had to imagine the taste, the flavor, the feeling of the soft bread and the goey jelly that came inside. But as Anna waited for her friend, she realized it had already been an hour and she was not yet there. Her mind shifted to her friends. Anna looked around and decided to climb the tree
