"I would like to bring out my next witness!" She opened the big dark maple doors and lead a little girl about eight years old to the stand. "Are you sure she's up for this?" The judge asked. The lawyer and the judge looked at the little girl, she hesitated then nodded. Trying not to look at the man that was staring at her. The lawyer walked her up to the old dark wood chair that was the witness seat. She sat down nervously playing with her hands. "Please state your name for the court." The judge said, the little girl hesitated. "My name is Sylan Woods." She said nervously glancing at the man at the other side of the court room. "Do you swear to speak the truth and only the truth?" "I swear." She said brokenly. "Sylan, please tell us what happened in the evening of November, sixteenth, of 2031." Sylan hesitated, then glanced back to the man across the room. The lawyer followed her stare. "He can't hurt you here." The lawyer said reassuringly, Sylan still didn't speak. "Mrs. Albany please remove your witness if she is not going to tell us anything." The lawyer nodded, then looked at Sylan. Mrs. Albany sighed, "C'mon sweetie." Mrs. Albany took her hand and lead her towards the door. As Sylan neared the defendants seat, she looked at the man who was her step father. He smiled in victory, that smile the smile she had seen so many times before after he'd gotten away with something terrible was just enough to bring back all of the awful memories hidden deep in Sylan's mind. Her eyes turned white with anger, she stopped. "your not getting away with it this time." she said softly, then let go of Mrs. Albany's hand and ran back to the witnesses bench. "I'm ready, I'll tell you everything." Her step father's wicked smile turned into an angry frown. "What happened that evening?" Mrs. Albany asked again. "I came home from school and went up to the front door and went in." She said comely, "Denise was on my mother stabbing her with a kitchen knife, my aunt Sarah was lying next to her barely breathing covered in blood." Mrs. Albany paused. "What did Mr. Glacier do after he saw you in the door way?" She asked. "He said: don't worry Princess you'll see her soon enough. And tried to stab me." "And after that, what happened?" Mrs. Albany asked. "He chased me outside but ran back in quickly, as I was running I called the police and hid behind someone's house." Mrs. Albany thought for a moment. "Has the defendant every hurt you or sexually abused you?" "Objection! how is this relevant to the case?" Denis's lawyer said angrily. "I'll allow it, Albany next time only ask questions relevant to the case." The judge said. "He was very harsh when it came to punishment. He would brand us with a metal stick when we were bad." Sylan said triumphantly. "He did it usually when he was drunk, he would fight with mom a lot and hit and punch her and call her a whore. We were all afraid of him, especially mommy...... Can I see Amanda now?" Mrs. Albany looked at the judge and back at her. "Who is Amanda?" "She's the girl that Denis's brother kidnapped and hid in our basement. She's about my age I think....... You haven't found her yet? " Denis sat up. "Can you please tell the police to take a swat team er something with them, Denis's brother has a gun and he told me if I ever told anyone about her he would kill her. Please don't let him kill her. Oh and another thing knock three times on the cellar door, she'll know what it means I taught her it, it means helps here. Be careful with her, she's blind." Sylan said worriedly. All of the sudden Denise sprung from his chair towards Sylan. "What have you done you little bitch, you ruined everything!" The guards grabbed him before he could get to her and dragged him away. "Whats going to happen to you now Princess all your family's dead, nobody's going to love you, you disloyal piece of shit! you've got nowhere to go now, you and your sister are going rot in a foster home until you die!" he yelled furiously as they lead him thru a door and his voice slowly die away. She sat there shaking, her eyes slowly turning back to their natural color. Mrs. Albany rushed to her side to make sure she was ok, she was on the brink of tears but other than that she felt happy. The man who had ruined her family's life's (and had taken some) was gone and was never coming back. They had generously given him the death penalty, her cousin who works for the local death penalty place was going to male sure no matter what he was, never coming back.
