Before, I spent most of my time reading. Now, I spend my time stalking the streets in search of something. For what, I can't remember. I know it makes no sense but I just have a gut feeling that when I find it, I'll know that it's what I'm looking for.
"Sheila!" Tucker yelled my name to snap me out of my reveries, or so I thought. "Sheila! Look what I found!" Tucker found me the night that I Changed which was so long ago. I was mortal then. Now, I, along with Tucker, Gill, and Muriyah, am a Vampyre. An immortal, if you will. I don’t miss my old life much, just my old family because they’re dead now.
I walked over to Tucker to see what he discovered only to find a small girl that had been Changed. I picked her up, wrapped her in the dingy blanket found next to her, and carried her home. When we got there, Gill and Muriyah’s jaws dropped.
“W..W..Who would do such a thing to such a small child?” Muriyah stammered.
“I don’t know but I am claiming her as my own daughter.” I claimed.
“Wait, I found her, so she should be my daughter.” Tucker whined.
“She can be our daughter.” I compromised.
“What’s her name?” Gill asked.
“We don’t know.” Tucker replied.
“My name is Lin.” The girl murmured.
“Lin. I like that. My name is Sheila. This is Tucker, Gill, and Muriyah. How old are you?” I question.
“I’m 11. Or I was before, now I am probably 500.”
“Wow, I’m 760 years old now and I was 23.” Tucker explained.
“I’m 300 now, and I was 18.” Muriyah said.
“I’m 680 and I was 21.” Gill retorted.
“And, I’m 850 but I was 25.” I replied.
“So you all were between 18 and 25 when you Changed? That’s interesting.” Lin qualmed. “I’m tired. Where do I sleep?”
“Next to my room.” I replied. “I have a question for you. Tucker come with us, please?”
“Okay.”
We went into Lin’s room, showed her around and then I asked, “Lin, how would you feel about Tucker and I claiming you as our daughter?”
“Umm… I’d love that! It’s been years since I’ve had any type of a family.” She squeaked.
“Great!” Tucker and I exclaimed in unison. “We’ll let you sleep now.” I said.
Tucker and I left the room and I collapsed by her door. Somehow I woke up in my room the next morning. The rumors are myth, I can walk during the day but night is just better for my eyes.
“Morning Gill. How did I end up in my room?” I asked.
“Tucker, of course. He’s ‘Bananas’ for you.”
“I..I..I know. I just don’t know what to do about it.” I choked out.
“About what?” Tucker inquired.
“Hey, can we talk?” It’s better to tell him how I feel now than to never tell him. I’ve known him for 825 years now. This can’t be that hard. He’s my best friend.
“Sure, what’s up?” Somehow, Gill left unnoticed.
“You know I appreciate the night you found me.” I started.
“Yeah.”
“But, what you don’t know is how much…Can I show you?”
There was a long silence and then he muttered something I didn’t quite catch. “What was that?”
“Mmhmm.” He nodded.
I closed the gap between us, leaned up to him, snaked my arms around his neck, pulled him to me and kissed him. At first, he didn’t do anything. Then, his hands found my waist, pulled me to him and he started kissing me back. I don’t know how long we kissed but it’s not like I really cared. At least now, Tucker knows how much I really cared for him.
“Hey Tucker?” Lin interrupted. We pulled away from each other and blushed.
“Yeah?”
“Can you and Sheila help me for a second?” She smiled at us and my heart melted.
“Sure, but on one condition.” I stated.
“What?”
“Call us Mom and Dad please? We want people in public to believe you are our 11 year old daughter. With you calling us by our names, that isn’t sure to happen.”
“Okay.”
“What do you need help with?” Tucker perused.
“I want to re-decorate my room to make it more personal. Where can I go?”
“We’ll all go. We need to re-decorate the whole house anyways. It’s been a while and times are modern now.” I explained. “Gill! Muriyah! We’re going to the store!” We drove to JoAnn Fabrics first, then to Lowes to get the necessities and headed home.
The next week was filled with laughter, frustration, arguments and fun. Lin chose a Tiger-print pattern for her room. White Bengal Tigers, to be exact. Tucker chose a pale green for his room, a few posters of old pin-up calendar girls and pictures of himself, Lin, Gill, Muriyah and I. I chose a Victorian-style look for my room. Old furniture, a canopy bed, a vanity mirror and antique accessories. There are some things that you just miss.
Gill and Muriyah decided not to change their rooms. For the Living Room, we all agreed upon an off-white color and Victorian-style furniture. We also decided to leave the kitchen and bathrooms alone.
Our first argument was on where to begin. The next was which way the paint goes on. Finally, Lin taped Tucker and I together and said if we didn’t stop fighting we would be stuck like that until she decided otherwise. If we tried to escape the tape, she would decide the necessary punishment and dish it out. I thought it was cute and funny but Tucker was being cranky.
“Tucker, settle down. She’s just tired of all the fighting. Besides, I think it’s adorable and funny.” I tried to reason.
“Well, I don’t.”
“Calm down, please. Don’t pretend you don’t like being this close to me.” My lips found his and wouldn’t release them.
“Okay, guys. I’m still in the room here.” Lin said, disgusted.
I pulled away. “Okay, we’ll stop.”
“Thank-you. I’ll let you go now.” After she un-taped us, Tucker grabbed Lin and I into a bear-hug.
“Tucker, I can’t breathe!” Lin squeezed out breathlessly. He released us. We both gasped for air and then we all started laughing.
“Who’s hungry?” I questioned.
"I am!" Lin exclaimed.
"Me too! Let's go see what we can find hmm?" Tucker replied.
Now here's the thing, Pureblood Vampyres are the only Vampyres who lust for just blood. Made Vampyres, like the five of us, lust for blood, just not as much. We still have to eat mortal food.
