Again, this is another first chapter of an upcoming novel "Mysterious Letter".
Rewritten from a book I wrote when I was younger, this short story will become a decent sizes novel available to buy on any good ebook websites.
Chapter 1: TBA
It all started with three knocks on the door. There was nothing strange with these knocks, but the fact that it was 11 at night made me curious of whether to answer. I stayed perched on the edge of my seat, hoping they would go away. But to my luck another three knocks occurred.
“Hello, can I help?” I asked whilst curiously looking through the peephole. An elderly man was stood looking from side to side, with a frustrated expression upon his face.
“Hi, I’m from the local authorities. I’ve been told to come and talk to you about the incident that occurred on the night of February the 20th. May I come in Sir?”
I unlatched the door lock, still a bit weary of who he was, and why he was here.
“Thank you for letting me in, am I alright to just get straight to the point?”
“Yes, uh. That would be fine” I replied with a slight stutter.
“Well, I’m not from the authorities and I’m certainly not here to talk about the incident, I am here to end this all. I’ve had enough of playing with you now, it needs to end.”
“End? What you talking about?” Honestly, I knew what he was talking about but I didn’t want to believe it, the endless nights, the tears, the pain and the murder and the man who caused this is stood before me.
“You always have been stupid haven’t you. I’m F. The letters are all from me, it’s all my idea.”
“You bastard! You fucking bastard how could you do this? Why would you do this? In fact who the fuck are you?”
“Why? Because I could, amusement, just to see you hurt basically and be careful what you ask kid, my name can destroy lives, your life infact.
“You already have destroyed mine so you might as well tell me!” I shouted in anger, after what he’s done he could at least tell me his name.
“Oh, kid, this is just the beginning of the end.”
I just wanted to know he was, I’ve never seen him before in my life, so how on hell can he know who I am.
“If you won’t tell me your name, tell me how you got my address, how you knew my name, you look at me as if you know me, as if I should know you?”
“Your address was easy to find, I’ve known it all your life, every single address. When you know where to look, you can find anything out son. Are we going to carry this on much longer or can we finish this.”
“END IT! Because I can’t take another second, I can’t sleep at night because of you, I’m scared to walk down the street; because of you! I think ending it would be the nicest thing you have ever done for me”.
“No, the nicest thing I ever did for you was give you life in the first place”.
He moved his hand to his back pocket and pulled out a knife. Two steps is all it took him, two steps to be up close. I looked into his eyes, deep down I could see he didn’t want to do this. He didn’t want to hurt me.
“You don’t want to do this, I know you don’t.”
“What makes you so sure?”
“I see it, I see it in your eyes, you’re holding back the tears.”
“JUST SHUT UP OKAY! You don’t know what you’re talking about.
He put his arms around me and my head just fell onto his shoulder, he felt right hugging him. I didn’t want to let go. He pulled away from me and once again our eyes met, gazing straight into one anothers.
“You can’t be serious, it can’t be, I know who you are”.
“Don’t say it please, don’t make this harder than it should be”.
Identical, I knew where I knew him from. Only one other person can have them eyes.
“I’m sorry Leon.” He whispered into my ear.
I felt a lot of pressure on my chest, I could feel the cold seeping in. I looked down and could see the blood filling up from under my top.
“It’s all over now” he repeated with a smile on his face, “It’s all over”.
I shouldn’t have been happy, but I was. I couldn’t do nothing but laugh. It was over, and I was glad. The pain was over. My head fell once again into the rightful place upon his shoulder, as he stood and watched my life drain from my body.
