Chapter Two

Chapter Two

Cat walked back home and went to her bedroom. As she changed out of her school uniform she contemplated over what the boy had said.
She went downstairs to watch some TV.
The curtains were drawn and the only light came from the hallway and TV. Cat sat on the sofa and snuggled under a blanket, a teddy in one arm and Tiger in the other. “Time for something funny,” she said to Tiger. She flicked through the channels until she found a show of her liking.
Tiger cuddled up to her, purring a little. He was always like this near dinnertime; he was hoping to have a treat.
Cat tried ignoring him; she could never resist his cute little kitty face.
There was a knock on the door and she groaned, not wanting to get up from her comfortable position. Nonetheless she stood and walked to get the door. She checked the peephole first, her mum always told her to do that if she wasn’t in.
Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw a large, muscled, red haired man with a scar on his face. She was guessing he was the man the boy had described.
Cat kept quiet and silently walked back to the living room. She sat back on the sofa and put Tiger on her lap again.
There were a few more knocks but around ten minutes later it appeared that the man had left. She didn’t know why but she felt as though the boy had saved her.
There was the sound of a car pulling into the driveway and a few minutes later the sound of a key in the door. She let out a breath she didn’t know she’s been holding. She’d thought the car might have belonged to the man.
Elizabeth walked into the room and glanced at Cat. “Have you had dinner yet?” she asked her daughter.
“Nope, I was watching TV,” Cat said with a small smile.
Elizabeth ruffled her hair before setting her things in the hallway and walking to the kitchen to heat some food for her and Cat.
When she was done she walked back to the living room with the food. She handed a tray to Cat and sat down beside her with her own tray.
“What we watching?” Elizabeth asked.
“I don’t know, some game show,” Cat replied. “That guy with the ugly shirt is the one trying to win the money. Those other people on that panel are his family members.”
Elizabeth nodded understandingly, “Bet you £10 he’ll win over £5000.”
Cat smirked, “You’re on.”
They ate their food as they watched the show. When it was over Elizabeth handed £10 to the smug teen.
Cat smiled happily as she took the money. “I always win,” she said with a cheeky grin.
Her mum looked at her challengingly, “You’ll lose one day Kitty-Cat.”
Cat scoffed. “Sure I will,” she said sarcastically. Her and her mum enjoyed these little competitions, they were one of the reasons they were so close.
Cat told her mum everything and her mum told her everything. It was a mutual thing.
Their bond had grown even stronger after the disappearance of father/husband, Jonathon Avery. The first few months following the disappearance, both females had become lifeless zombies. Both had gone about their everyday lives emotionless; until Elizabeth’s sister had visited. Valerie had told them things would be better if they looked out for each other; and that was exactly what they did. They became each others pillar of support and strength.
Cat yawned a little and stood, picking up Tiger and carrying him to the kitchen. It was the cat’s suppertime. She set him down on the granite countertop and walked to the fridge. She looked inside at the different items. Finally, she found what she was looking for; Tiger’s favourite cat food. She painstakingly opened the can and emptied the food into the bowl which she then put in the microwave and heated. Whilst the food was being heated she poured some water into a bowl and put it in front of Tiger. There was a ping from the microwave and she took out the food bowl and placed it in front of Tiger.
Cat watched as Tiger began eating. She smiled and gently petted him.
“That man…” Cat said to Tiger. “He was exactly like the boy described. I wonder what he wanted, he looked kind of creepy.”
After Tiger was done eating Cat picked him up and took him upstairs to her bedroom.
Her room was a fairly large room. Her bed was to one side of the room, in an indentation of the wall. She had a desk directly in front of one of the windows. At the desk there was a computer and other artsy items. Everything was neat and organised. The carpet was pink and fluffy. The wallpaper was pink with a cherry blossom tree on each wall. The light shade had pink beads dangling down. Her bed covers were pink and the curtains for the windows were also pink. Nearly everything was pink.
Her mum had designed the room and her father had built it. Her parents owned a company together; it was a company for making and designing buildings. Her mother worked in the designing unit and her father worked in the building unit. That was how they were able to keep an eye on things and help out at the same time. The company was very successful and anyone who was anyone wanted it to be designed and built by them. Now that her father was gone her uncle helped out with what her dad used to do. Her uncle, Aaron, was from her dad’s side of the family. He was several years younger than her dad.
Cat closed the door behind her and set Tiger down on her bed. She walked to the window and opened it. She almost had a heart attack when she saw the boy from earlier sitting in the tree outside. She didn’t say anything but stared at the boy in shock. Why was he in a tree staring into her room?!
Before she could say anything the boy smirked and said, “The man will come again, don’t answer.” Like before, after he’d spoken these words he left.
Cat watched as he climbed down the tree, feeling flustered. “You have to stop doing that,” she called after him. “It’s weird.”
The boy didn’t say anything; he just glanced up at the window and poked his tongue out.
“Why that little…” Cat thought. “Why does he keep doing that? Saying these weird things to me then leaving, maybe I shouldn’t listen to him. I don’t even know him,; for all I know he could be some psycho, teen murderer. Besides, what harm could come from talking to a certain person?”
Cat walked away from the window, towards her bed. She sat down and checked her hand phone for any text messages. Her hand phone was a light pink, LG lollipop phone from Korea. Her mum had bought it for her when she was on a business trip to Seoul, South Korea.
Cat was reading a text message from Megan when Tiger got up from the bed and jumped off it, walking towards the open window. He jumped out, onto a very close branch. He nearly always left and entered from there.
Cat let him go and continued reading the message, it read:

I have the most perfect idea to make Christian’s parents keep Daisy. We could make a presentation about how ever since they adopted Daisy Chris has been a lot happier and friendlier towards others. He’s usually so shy. We could also tell them how if an animal doesn’t get adopted quickly it is often put down. :’(
If that doesn’t work we can go on strike and camp out in front of their house. That always works. >;D

Megan xx

P.S Tomorrow is the party; we’ll meet at Sweet Stuff café and think about our outfits. Ok? *^*
P.P.S You HAVE to go to the party!

Cat giggled a little and decided to reply. Cat and Megan never used text talk, neither did Christian. They all found it annoying.

We should definitely try out both ideas. Although, they probably won’t listen to the first idea, but you never know.
YAY! *^* I love Sweet Stuff Café. They have the best coffee in the whole world. I have an idea on what I should wear, I’ll tell you tomorrow.
And I told you I’d go to the party so SHUDDUP! >.
